The shortcut I've set to change keyboard layouts (ALT + Shift) randomly stops
working on KDE Neon. When that happens, I have to use the system tray icon to
change layouts, then the keyboard shortcut will start working again. This has
been affecting me since I installed Neon months ago.

Unlike OP, I've set it to affect only the current application. My secondary
layout is a custom layout I've made for myself.

[plasmashell] [Bug 370020] New: Remove sound when setting volume with Fn key

2016-10-04 Thread anewuser via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=370020

Bug ID: 370020
Summary: Remove sound when setting volume with Fn key
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.8.0
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Reporter: caip...@fastmail.fm
CC: bhus...@gmail.com, plasma-b...@kde.org

The last Plasma update added a sound feedback to each volume level when you use
the Fn key + volume combination to change your system volume.

This is a terrible change since this keyboard shortcut is often - if not always
- used when you're already playing a song or a video. I personally use it when
I'm watching a fullscreen film.

The icon displayed almost in the middle of the screen instead of a corner (like
Windows 10) is already bad enough. Now, with this sound effect, it ruins
completely the experience of watching videos fullscreen when you need to keep
changing the volume levels for whatever reason.

Reproducible: Always

Note: I've used a BIOS setting that sets a 80% limit for my )Samsung) battery
change. This has never been a problem though.

When it's at that value, Windows just changes the battery status to "not
charging", and Linux keeps displaying "charging - 79%", but this has never
interfered with any energy options.

Neon now suspends my session even though I haven't changed my settings.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set your energy saving settings to never suspend on AC power, but to suspend
on battery after 20 minutes
2. Lock the screen but kept your laptop plugged in without closing the lid

Actual Results:
Laptop is suspended when you come back.

I'm not sure what "product" to report this to because it affects any theme, not
just Breeze.

Tooltips are unreadable on GTK+2 applications by default. You can test it with
MComix (available on the Ubuntu repositories).

I tested different combinations of Plasma themes and GTK application styles. I
also unchecked "Apply colors to non-QT applications" on the Color settings. The
problem still persisted.

The only solution I've found to this problem is commenting out these lines in
~/.config/gtkrc-2.0 :

widget "gtk-tooltip" style "ToolTip"
widget "gtk-tooltips" style "ToolTip"

Adding # before these lines make the applications use the default tooltips of
my current KDE Plasma theme.

When you select a file, you have to enable the information panel or open its
properties to see when it was created, and only the properties window shows the
last modification date (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=367680).

It'd be nice if Dolphin was able to display those pieces of info on the status
bar. Windows XP, for example, shows the "creation date" for files such as .exe
and .dll files, and the "modifcation date" for files such as text files and
Word documents. That's useful for people who edit many text documents with
similar names.

https://neon.kde.org/download (a secure page) uses a form HTML tag to redirect
the user to the download page instead of a normal link. That's bad practice for
many reasons, including that the download page is non-secure (http:), which
makes browsers like Firefox throw a security warning, and that it breaks the
expected user experience, like right-clicking on the link to open it in a new
tab.

[dolphin] [Bug 366839] New: "Automatic column widths" should align columns to the left, at least when window is maximized

2016-08-16 Thread anewuser via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=366839

Bug ID: 366839
Summary: "Automatic column widths" should align columns to the
left, at least when window is maximized
   Product: dolphin
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: view-engine: details mode
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: caip...@fastmail.fm

Setting Dolphin to set column widths automatically just moves all but the first
column to the right edge of the window and resizes the first column to fit the
whole rest of the screen. When the Dolphin window is maximized, this means that
the first column is huge, and you need to move your eyes a lot to see the other
file properties.

A better behavior would be to just resize each column width to match the
largest row in them, so that all columns will be aligned to the left and be
comfortable to read.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Maximize Dolphin on a widescreen monitor
2. Open a folder with many files and change the view mode to "details"
3. Let Dolphin set column widths automatically by right-clicking on the title
of a column

Actual Results:
The first column is huge, and the other columns are at the other edge of the
screen, making it hard to scan the lines with your eyes.

Expected Results:
All columns should be automatically resized to match the largest item in them
and be aligned to the left.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Settings -> Configure Software sources

Actual Results:

instantly reverts the check mar. Those boxes should be greyed-out if there's no
intention to support them.
- It's possible to change "Long-term support releases" to "Normal releases".
Since KDE Neon is based officially only on LTS relases, that may break things
when new Ubuntu releases are launched. That option should be greyed-out.

It is nice to have the possibility to have separate previews for the current
clip and the whole project, but that takes too much room on a 1366x768 screen,
which is still a very common (if not the most common) laptop resolution,
especially when you also have other panels visible, like the default ones:
Properties, Project bin and Effects.

Please consider adding an option to merge/group panels into a single tabbed
panel, so users can customize their environment better.

If that's a too complex change to do with the current toolkit, consider adding
at least a combined panel for the clip monitor and the project monitor, similar
to the attached screenshot.

A common feature among video editors similar to Kdenlive is that they estimate
the output file depending on the chosen resolution, codecs and audio/video
quality, so that users can have a good idea of how big the result of each
combination of options will be. Also, the "quality bar" is currently subjective
since there's no way to preview it or at least tell the output size.

Please consider implementing this calculation to the "Render" window of
Kdenlive.

I've found an abandoned issue about this on the archived bug tracker, but it
doesn't seem to have been imported:

[systemsettings] [Bug 366521] New: Root directories added to the File Search exclusions vanish from the list after you close the settings window

2016-08-08 Thread anewuser via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=366521

Bug ID: 366521
Summary: Root directories added to the File Search exclusions
vanish from the list after you close the settings
window
   Product: systemsettings
   Version: 5.7.3
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcm_desktopsearch
  Assignee: nepomuk-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: caip...@fastmail.fm
CC: nepomuk-b...@kde.org

Root directories (such as /etc) can be added to the list of location exclusions
to the File Search, but vanish from the list automatically after you close and
reopen the system settings.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open the System Settings
2. Open the Search preferences
3. Add /etc to your list of exclusions in the File Search tab
4. Close the System Settings window
5. Reopen the System Settings window

Actual Results:
/etc and any other root directories you added have now vanished from the list.

Expected Results:
The directories should stay in the list, or, in case they are excluded by
default, they shouldn't even appear in the list of folders users can select to
be excluded in first place.

Exclusions added to the File Search preferences should be listed alphabetically
to be viewed more clearly.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open the System Settings
2. Open the Search Settings
3. Add exclusions to the File Search tab

Actual Results:
Entries are sorted by the order they've been added, and there's no way to
change the sorting.

Expected Results:
They should be sorted alphabetically, or at least there should be a way to do
so.

2016-08-07 Thread anewuser via KDE Bugzilla

Bug ID: 366496
Summary: Kate shouldn't offer to reload changed documents while

  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kwrite-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: caip...@fastmail.fm

When you attempt to close Kate and it identifies that some of the documents
have been changed by external applications, it offers to either overwrite the
files, reload the files, or ignore the changes.

"Reload" and "Ignore" have the same practical effect in this case, since you
are closing the program anyway.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open files with Kate
2. Modify the files with an external application
3. Attempt to close Kate

Actual Results:
Kate offers to overwrite the files, reload the files or ignore the changes.

Expected Results:
Kate should offer just to overwrite the files with the version open in it or
ignore the external changes.

"Reload" and "Ignore" have the same practical effect when you are closing the
application, and that makes the GUI confusing.

Cryptomator doesn't require you to register an account. It's an offline tool
that creates encrypted directories/vaults and uses webDAV locally as a bridge
to let you explore those vaults as normal folders.

@Shlomi (In reply to Shlomi Fish from comment #4)

Please reconsider this. When editing a crop, the expected behavior of the enter
key is to apply the selected area, regardless of what the enter key does when
the crop tool isn't in use. That's what happens in all image editors with a
crop feature, such as Gimp and Krita.

Also:

- if the user is in the middle of a crop, he isn't interested in changing view
modes, but finishing his crop.

- Crop areas are selected with the mouse. There's no obvious risk of pressing
the enter key accidently while you are using your mouse/touchpad.

- You can add an option to keep the old behavior.

[dolphin] [Bug 365357] New: Mounted WebDAV URL not added to list of network folders

2016-07-11 Thread anewuser via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=365357

Bug ID: 365357
Summary: Mounted WebDAV URL not added to list of network
folders
   Product: dolphin
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: caip...@fastmail.fm

When a WebDAV folder is mounted via its URL, it should be added automatically
to the list of network folders.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
You can reproduce this with any application that attempts to mount WebDAV
folders with their URLs. The program I'm using is Cryptomator:

1. Install Cryptomator (http://cryptomator.org/)
2. Create a vault
3. Use the option to reveal a drive (there will be an error because of
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=365356), but the folder will open on
Dolphin anyway because they've set Dolphin's syntax as a fallback scheme
4. Click on "Network" on the "Places" panel of Dolphin

Actual Results:
The mounted folder doesn't appear anywhere in the list of network folders.

Expected Results:
It should appear in the list of network folders, as in Nautilus:
