This is implemented and working in current (KF5) versions of Dolphin. If you
don't see it, there may be an issue with your distro, since the contents of the
"Create New" menu are variable and adjustable by distros.

For witch purpose does a "desktop-folder" exists?
Does it have special functions?

A folder witch is named desktop leads to misunderstandings.
Most people will think that if you put a file into that folder you will get a
connection from that file to desktop. (like in windows)

I think a folder named desktop is a crazy think at all.

There had been a submenu in dolphin to symlink a file to desktop.
But it disappeared some time ago. I am using Version 16.08.3 now.

My Dolphin 15.12.3 already has such an entry in the New ... submenu

Only thing left: I could not find a keyboard-only shortcut to paste as a
symlink ... but there is always a Konsole on F4 ... so I don't really need one
either :-)
