Demo of the Klipper window opening in the wrong positions

I can reproduce the issue on the latest KDE neon Testing (20240402) via the
all-defaults Live ISO as well.
Please view my attached demo video.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Boot KDE neon Testing Live ISO
2. Copy any text into the clipboard
3. Open a window OR panel widget
4. Press your assigned shortcut for "Show Clipboard Items at Mouse Position"
(default: Meta + V)

OBSERVED RESULT
The Klipper window is NOT spawned at the mouse position.
Instead, the top-left of the window is ALWAYS spawned in the center of the
screen.
Or, for when a panel widget is open, at another weird spot.

EXPECTED RESULT
The Klipper window should always spawn at the mouse position, like it did
previously and on X11.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux: KDE neon Testing 20240402
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.1.0
Qt Version: 6.6.3

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- This works fine on X11. I can confirm that ONLY Wayland is affected.
- The issue can be reproduced very quickly on an all-defaults KDE neon VM.

[plasmashell] [Bug 483691] plasma panel unresponsive after connecting secondary monitor aligned to the left of primary (Wayland)

I'm having exactly the same issue ever since the first KDE 6 beta.

I'm using a AMD 6900 XT and the panel also only becomes unresponsive when the
secondary monitor is on the left of the primary.

It also behaves really strangely. If I turn the monitor on, the left side of
the panel and the panel itself become unresponsive. If I turn the monitor off
again, the right side of the panel and the panel itself become unresponsive.

The only way to properly revive the panel is by putting the monitor somewhere
else in the display settings and back again, at which point everything works
normally.

This is not a duplicate of bug 483006. That one is describing the root cause
which leads to the suboptimal behaviour of the KCM as described in the summary.

There are a few things which can be improved in the KCM when such a thing (the
session definition pointed at in the config disappears) happens:

1. The "Automatically log in" check mark should be disabled. Instead maybe a
message should appear with a text like "The previously configured auto-login
session is invalid. Please select a new one".

2. The value in "with session" should not default to "Plasma (X11)". That is
actually the opposite of what is wanted according to bug 483006. It should at
worst default to "Plasma (Wayland)". I think some heuristics can be added to
make it default to the Plasma session for the currently running composer. Or
even the currently running session but it looks like that information is not
readily available anymore.

I already digged a bit through the source code and might have a shot at this
when I have some spare time.

I can't reproduce the exact issue as OP, but I can 100% reproduce at least a
very similar issue in the same browser on a more up to date setup.

Drag and drop seems to depend on last-touched window.

For example, if I drag a file from Dolphin over VSC(Electron) and then to the
target Chromium window with https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/upload it works
fine.

But if the last thing I dragged over is Plasma notifications, it will have the
red crossed out O and won't let me upload. In that state, I can change the
last-dragged-through-element by hovering over VSC again and back to Chromium,
and the icon will change and it will work.

Note that there is currently a bug in current Chromium versions where drag and
drop will break the browser, and the workaround is to do drag and drop again
without actually dropping the file to re-enable it.

I don't know whether this is an oversight or an assumption that right clicking
is enough indication of intention, but I just ran into a scenario where the
confirmation pop up would have been prudent.

I was in icons view and had selected a bunch of files to open in a batch image
processing app. Then I scrolled and selected a different file intending to open
it in Krita, but I must have fat fingered it and hit the + in the top left
corner, so without realising I had simply added to my current selection instead
of making a new one - all other selected files were out of view so nothing
appeared wrong. And because I had set an image viewer to open image files by
default (for obvious reasons) I used the right click menu to open it in
Krita...

I just realized I do use the normal setting on my 1440p screen. I don't use it
to get around DPI scaling. I would just like to have a Big Sur like scaling gap
of icons. On Latte I could do this easily by setting the width in pixels. The
large gap here is way larger than that though. There is a huge macOS theming
community on KDE and so I would assume they care about this as well. Anyway,
this is not something that is important enough for me to get into a lengthy
discussion.

I guess you as a team are working to get rid of KDE's reputation of being
unstable and this comes with simplifying some things to make the code easier to
maintain and less prone to bugs. I just hope that KDE will not become GNOME in
the long run. I love KDE because it doesn't limit the options and I think many
others do so as well.

Hi!
Thank you for looking into that. I have tried again in 5.3.0 prealpha 4f60fd98,
if I do slow clickling it happens way less often but I can still see the little
white square with the arrow appearing next to the frames sometimes. If it's not
a bug but a mix of the things in my setup making it worse I'll keep in mind to
be careful when clicking on the timeline

I tried yesterday again, but nothing happened. Later after a reboot the DE was
unusable again (Wayland). Switching to X11 fixed this, though that is not a
solution that I like. After some research, I figured that it might be an
NVIDIA-Wayland issue, so I checked for drivers and installed any that might be
missing (by searching manually in the terminal). One day later (today) I tried
Wayland again and there are not visible issues whatsoever.

In conclusion I just won't use the "Switch desktop on edge" feature, because it
seems to possibly cause issues. Regarding what exactly solved the issue, I am
not sure. Might be missing NVIDIA-packages or simply non-NVIDIA-compatible
features.

The quit action is still there:
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/systemsettings/-/blob/master/app/SettingsBase.cpp?ref_type=heads#L124

There is indeed a problem with shortcuts for the actions.

Size/position is done by KMainWindow, which is still used, so it _should_ work

Aren't these buttons on a toolbar? If so, the toolbar itself should process the
tab sequence.

Can you provide a higher level explanation of what the problem is from a KDE
Connect perspective? The screenshot of the full app instead of the components
themselves will be useful.

SUMMARY
kwin is using all CPU resources on Wayland session while using
nouveau.noaccel=1

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. add nouveau.noaccel=1 to your kernel parameters, regenerate
2. reboot and login with a wayland session

OBSERVED RESULT
it's even hard to move your cursor, CPU usage is %100

Using nouveau.noaccel=1 because i am having random kernel lockups:

Using modesetting driver because of "purple note" sections with explanation

But i also installed both xf86-video-nouveau and intel packages to see if
anything changes, no difference at all about CPU usage. I am attaching

Changing the keyboard configuration to "Belgian (no dead keys)" is a workaround
but it behaves slightly differently ('^' is typed directly instead of after
pressing space)
So maybe the issue is a change in the "Belgian" definition or its
interpretation?

[Akonadi] [Bug 485426] New: Google Groupware agent stops syncing after a while

2024-04-12 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485426

Bug ID: 485426
Summary: Google Groupware agent stops syncing after a while
Classification: Frameworks and Libraries
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 6.0.2
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal

***

SUMMARY
When I add a Google account to Akonadi it syncs properly, calendar events turn
up in KOrganizer and Merkuro calendar as well. Sync can be initiated from
Merkuro or from Akonadi Console. After a while if there is a sync it gets stuck
at 0% forever. Recreating the agent or reconfiguring it (reauth) solves the
issue. My guess is that refreshing the access token is not working. I had the
same issue with 6.0.1 as well.

I have tried clearing up akonadi config and starting from scratch, I have tried
switching backends, tried stopping and restarting akonadi. I also tried to
install latest KDE neon in VirtualBox and set up the same account, it had the
same results (6.0.1).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. add a google account
2. confirm it syncs properly in Akonadi Console, manual resync is also possible
with Sync all
3. wait a few hours (6-8) and try to resync, it gets stuck at 0%

OBSERVED RESULT
not Syncing

EXPECTED RESULT
Syncing

Not sure if it's Qt, Plasma or Kernel update but I don't have focus loss issues
anymore.
And apparently other issues I had (e.g. some windows didn't close when I click
on their tray icon) also don't reproduce anymore.

Attaching current versions for the reference, if anyone else have this issue or
it will happen in the future again.

When I rename an image with F2, a little dialog opens in which I can enter the
new filename.
Currently, the initial keyboard focus sits on one of the buttons, so I need to
press Tab first. It would be more efficient if the focus were in the input
field in which to enter the new filename. Bonus point: highlight only the
basename part of the filename, i.e. without the file extension (if one exists)
and its dot, like Dolphin does.

[krita] [Bug 485421] New: Inconsistent colors between reference tool and new file from clipboard while using the same options for both

2024-04-12 Thread Dynline
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485421

Bug ID: 485421
Summary: Inconsistent colors between reference tool and new
file from clipboard while using the same options for
both
Classification: Applications
   Product: krita
Version: nightly build (please specify the git hash!)
  Platform: Microsoft Windows
OS: Microsoft Windows
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Color models
  Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: saranv...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

Note you need to have the dialogue that asks you to paste as web or monitor
active to follow the steps below.

1. in your original file have an 8 bit srgb-elle default color profile
2. Paint a rainbowy thing, use many different colors to look for differences
3. select all
4. copy all
5. create a new document and use the create from clipboard option, use the same
settings for the color profile of your first image.

Now for the inconsistent behaviours:

6a. selecting web srgb, the colors will be wrong
7a. now on this new file click on the reference image tool
8a. paste as web srgb, the colors will be correct

6b. if creating the new file selecting the monitor colors then the colors are
correct! BUT...
7b. now on this other new file click on the reference image tool
8b. paste as monitor colors and now the colors will be wrong (but a different
shade of wrong compared to the other steps)

Copying your image colors from one file to another already existing without
going through the "from clipboard menu" will always paste the correct colors
and Krita won't ask your preferences.

OBSERVED RESULT
Creating a new file from clipboard and the reference image tool don't seem to
have the same behaviour when using the same steps on both, so one can't use the
option "always assume as srgb/monitor profile" and needs to remember for which
of these it will result in correct colors. Either of the two is behaving
wrongly.

EXPECTED RESULT
While selecting the same web or monitor options for both then the same option
should be either wrong for both or correct for both.

Ok, found the reason. The normal hostname for last.fm API calls is

QStringList const args = QCoreApplication::arguments();
if (args.contains( "--debug"))

I usually face low-level users (the kind of users who write their passwords on
a post-it) who don’t use their computer in a daily basis, and sometimes they
call me because they forgot their password. I can do nothing besides tell them
to bring their computer and I will reset the password with the live CD method.

On Windows, they can use the 3 secret questions method for local accounts, and
if you use an online account, you can reset your password though email
validation or other methods, mac also offers some options to reset a forgotten
password.

Obviously, those OSes are targeted to less tech-savy users, but I think it
would be nice to offer a solution on Linux. The three secret questions seems to
be the easiest one to develop, but sddm and the underlying desktop environment
(or window manager) perhaps needs to be in “harmony”. At least, sddm should be
able to change the user’s password if they answer the three questions, on the
other hand, there should be a “wizard” asking for those questions inside the
desktop (a secondary application).

I think devs from at least KDE and SDDM should agree to do their part of the
job, KDE devs to do the wizard, and SDDM the logic to remember/reset the
password using the secret questions entered by the user.

What do you think? It’s this even doable? I’m going to open this discussion as
well on SDDM’s github https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/1913 because I think
this cannot be implemented lonely by Plasma devs.

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Fullscreen games have a consistent choppy visual framerate, irrespective of the
actual framerate. Displayed framerate returns to what is expected when the game
is windowed instead. Fullscreen games run in Gamescope via virtual terminal
have an expected visual framerate.

That is, despite having tens of FPS, the game visually runs as if it has 5 FPS
per second.

The last time games ran fullscreen at the visually expected framerate was on my
Git build on the 30th of March.

Tested Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen and Monster Hunter World. Consistent
results.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Run any game at fullscreen ~ enabled Steam FPS counter.
2. Change the game to windowed mode.
3. Observe the differences in visual smoothness.

OBSERVED RESULT
Choppy visual framerate that doesn't match the framerate number.

EXPECTED RESULT
Smooth visuals as expected of the observed framerate.

Currently the Upcoming Events Summary shows events from all available

overview shows over 100 events per day that are not relevant for me. This makes
the whole Upcoming Events Summary unusable. There is an option called "Show my

to show only events from specific calendars. Like it is already possible for
the calendar in the Plasma clock widget.

broken qml example

I didn't manage to completely debug this unfortunately, making it hard to punt
this to Qt.

The gist of it is that an item in a layout that is a footer of a page inside a
Kirigami ColumnView (is not getting sized correctly. The page and layout sizes
are correct though so something appears to go wrong inside the layout logic
propagating to the children.

Of particular interest is that the width on the qml side is in fact changing to
the correct width but later changing to 0 thus breaking. Here's example output
where we can see the layout changing width, propagating to a rectangle inside
and then a second bogus resize that breaks things.

Qml Runtime(4007)/(qt.quick.layouts) unknown: QQuickLayout::geometryChange

I am attaching a fairly minimal example. Showing the problem. When run

I have that happen quite a lot. I also can't find a way to fix the IntelliJ
window, besides moving it to my left-most monitor, so I assume there might be
some scaling included.

My setup: 100% scaled 1280x1024 on the left, 125% scaled 3440x1440 on the
right. The right one is the main monitor.
I typically have IntelliJ in the left-half-quick-tile block of the big monitor.
I also have multiple virtual desktops I switch between.

Switching focus a few times between different windows, it can happen that
IntelliJ can't focus anymore. Mouse-over and click events seem to "fall
through" to the window below. Moving the window to the other monitor fixes it
in the meantime. Moving it back sometimes works for a while and then fails
again. I haven't had it fail on the left-most monitor yet. As long as the
window was there, all was fine.

Git commit 4e37c1d1c23773df6dff95ae11b58df8b04ab3f4 by Marco Martin.
Committed on 12/04/2024 at 09:23.
Pushed by mart into branch 'master'.

Never set minimum/maximum size

a long time ago we used minimum/maximum window sizes
for the minimum and maximum length of the panel, but now this
is not necessary anymore as they are stored separatedly.

setting minimum then maximum then resizing can sometimes cause
several subsequent resize attempts, and a wrong order of setminimum/setMaximum
can even fail the resize completely

The size is saved as a private member as source of truth: when we reposition
the panel
we can have not yet received a configure event of the last size we called
resize()
upon, making that former resize fail

Git commit 4533d9c8f60457a0e4f70a6c0d3bd97ca689514b by Tuomas Nurmi.
Committed on 12/04/2024 at 11:45.
Pushed by nurmi into branch 'master'.

Add workaround to enable last.fm debugging.

liblastfm checks QCoreApplication::arguments() for "--debug". That's not
easy to avoid, so add a synonym debug flag "--debug-last-fm" which has
identical
functionality in Amarok, but doesn't trigger the non-functional last.fm debug
mode.

This is not pretty, but it is pretty contained and makes reasonable last.fm
bughunting possible. Should https://github.com/lastfm/liblastfm/pull/37 ever
get merged, this commit can be reverted, but that might not happen anytime soon
as the PR has been pending for 4 years and latest liblastfm release was almost
10 years ago.

Thanks. The code it crashes on is most strange unfortunately. We may need to
make it more assertive to figure out what's going on here.

In the meantime you could fetch the terminal output of

QT_LOGGING_RULES="kf.attica=true" plasma-discover

and then try to trigger the crash. Maybe that sheds some light on things.

[plasmashell] [Bug 485378] Incorrect launch feedback for pinned apps in traditional Task Manager

2024-04-12 Thread John Veness
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485378

I've just noticed what should have been obvious to me, which is that the apps
that show the incorrect (icon-only) launch feedback are those that are pinned
to the task manager. So if I unpin Konsole, the incorrect launch feedback
doesn't occur, and if I pin KCalc, the incorrect launch feedback does occur. I
have changed the bug title to match this.

Note that the launch feedback problem occurs however the app is launched,
whether from the Application Launcher or from the pinned icon.

After some investigation in Bug 477317, we found that there were some sizing
issues in Qt which have been fixed for Qt 6.7.1, and we also pushed a change to
master. Antonio, would you be able to test whether the combination of these
changes fixes the issue for you? Thank super be super. Thanks a lot!

Ultimately this should have the same root cause as Bug 477317, which will be
fully fixed in Plasma 6.1 with Qt 6.7.1.

That pattern is from the buffer data layout, but it's likely just a
coincidence.

Bug ID: 485435
Summary: Kirigami apps UI shaking when resizing window
Classification: Frameworks and Libraries
   Product: frameworks-kirigami
   Version: 6.0.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR

SUMMARY
When you resize Discover/Filelight window, all UI parts are shaking like crazy.
However, Qt Widgets apps, like Dolphin, and original Qt Quick apps, like
Telegram Desktop, are very smooth when resizing window.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Discover or Filelight
2. Resize the window quickly (bottom right corner)
3. See if the sidebar and toolbar are shaking (in theory they should not)

OBSERVED RESULT
All UI parts are sharking

EXPECTED RESULT
At least sidebar and top toolbar shouldn't shaking, like Dolphin or Telegram
Desktop

Another information which might be useful. Looks like i don't have iGPU on CPU,
only nvidia. Cross checked with Windows11, Fedora etc.
