KMail would fail to send e-mail through the GMail SMTP server, giving me a pop up with an error message containing text like 'E-mail sending failed: failed to transport message. Socket operation timed out' I also noticed that auto detecting settings for the SMTP server took a very long time. First I took a look at bug #261333 and concluded that KMail was not to blame. Then I verified if my settings were correct and noticed that I had entered smtp.google.com instead of smtp.gmail.com. Silly mistake, but once corrected KMail worked fine with GMail. I assume this also explains why the autodetection took so long, because I had the wrong server. I think KMail itself could improve on this part by communicating clearly that it couldn't find an SMTP server at the wrong address, the autodetect function could have also warned me that it couldn't find an SMTP server there instead of failing silently and doing nothing. An error message like 'Socket operation timed out' isn't going to be understood by users. I know my issue is specifically with the message list and not directory structure of the mail servers the reporter is talking about, but because it seems related I thought it best to mention it in this bug report too. If it's not related I'd be happy to file a different bug. My issue with the message list forgetting things is as follows. If I go the Inbox of one of my IMAP accounts and expand some threads of messages, and collapse the display of messages of for example 'Two weeks ago' and 'October', and then switch to for example the 'Drafts' directory of that IMAP account and then switch back to the Inbox again, the threads are collapsed again and 'Two weeks ago' and 'October' are expanded again. In short, KMail forgot what I changed in how the message list is displayed. Possibly this is a different issue, but I'd like to mention that KMail insists on expanding 'Two weeks ago' and 'October' for no good reason. 'October' doesn't have any unread messages. Propagate errors from ItemRetriever to FETCH handler
Errors from the ItemRetriever (e.g. calling requestItemDelivery
on a resource in offline mode) will be propagated to the FETCH handler
now, so that the caller of ItemFetchJob can show an error message
to the user.

When you go to Settings -- Configure Summary Vew -- Approaching Events, there are two tick mark fields that you can select or clear, to display these special dates or not. However, clearing them does not work the way it's expected - duplicate records of special dates still show up under upcoming events. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Have a list of contacts ready with some registered birthdays or anniversaries soon from the current date (within the duration shown in the summary view of your Kontact) 2. Add birthdays and anniversaries to your calendar 3. Configure your summary view to show both upcoming events and upcoming special dates 4. Any attempt to delete a single or multiple selected mails/messages will trigger deletion of _all_ messages in a mail folder. Yesterday I unsuspectingly tried this without reading the confirmation popup with the result that my inbox with 1500 messages seemed completely lost for several minutes (until I found them copied to the local trash folder). I consider this a critical bug (degrading a RC to alpha software). Now: The Dialogue to delete all messages does not occur any more and only the marked mails are deleted.
