Same boat as all of you. I hate the Gmail web interface (even Inbox). I have
multiple IMAP clients going (iPhone, iPad, Mail on Mac) and those work, but
KMail almost never does as of late. Only recently it started to get really bad
and basically always fails to sync the 'All Mail' directory. This stops
everything from working pretty much. It gets to 99% and stays there forever.
Restarting the Akonadi server does not help very much. I have one Gmail account
with emails dating back to 2004, other IMAP clients have no problem viewing
that account's 'All Mail' folder back to the first entry.

Continuously, my accounts in Akonadi Console say 'Connection established.' as
opposed to 'Ready'. This is completely random. Right-clicking on that one and
choosing 'Restart agent' does nothing. Neither does Toggle offline/online.

I tried to set everything to live mode as well, where content is downloaded on
an as-needed basis. This has only resulted in me getting the 'Retrieving Folder
Contents' message, and it never goes away.

Really not sure what to do. KMail was great in KDE 3. I've tried to live with
Akonadi integration in KDE 4 and even tuned my PostgreSQL server for it. Even
with debug tools like Akonadi Console and enabling the PostgreSQL general log,
I cannot tell what the problem is. Every once in a while I see that Google
denied the connection, and that makes sense. But my other IMAP clients do not
generally get this issue and they even have check intervals of 30 minutes.

I really hope this is figured out. Although KMail lacks a 'Archive' feature
like in Mail.app on Mac, it still is my favourite e-mail client on Linux.

I have the same problem in Debian Jessie (KDE 4.14.2). Although i configured
the proxy in KDE's System Settings manually in exactly the same way as in
Icedove (Debian's version of Thunderbird), I cannot send and receive mail with
Kmail, while Icedove is working fine. The http proxy seems to work (Akregator
downloads new feeds without a problem). Sometimes the imap resource of my mail
account is shown as offline in Akonadi's settings, sometimes it is supposedly
online, but fetching email fails without an error message.

[Akonadi] [Bug 283682] KMail duplicates filtered messages

2014-12-08 Thread Tobias Leupold
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283682

--- Comment #116 from Tobias Leupold tobias.leup...@web.de ---
I just tried to track it down (once again). I deleted all config files and
directories that belong to kmail and akonadi and started with a fresh
install. I downloaded all mails from my account via pop3 (~17,000) and created
new filters.

Filtering all the mails manually was no problem. Not a single mail was
duplicated. It sometimes took almost a minute until the mails were actually
moved and written to the respective place on the disc, but it worked.

As soon as I got new mails from my account, and they were filtered as they
arrived, most of them were duplicated again.

I'm very sure this is a timing problem. First, the mail only exists inside the
(fast) akonadi cache and is processed by the filter, which puts it in the
target directory. It's also written on the respective place on the disc there.
Then, some (milli)seconds later, the original mail is written to the inbox
(which probably happens in a thread started at the very same time the filter
agent starts which does not know what the filter agent does). And then, we have
the un-filtered mail again inside the inbox. The inbox notifies the filter
agent that there's some new mail inside the inbox and it's moved from there a
second time by the newly started filter agent.

I'll eat my hat if this is not the very cause of the duplicated filtered mails.
All the existing already-downloaded mails were already written to the disc and
did not live only inside the Akonadi cache, and thus, they were not duplicated
on filtering. For the few not-duplicated filtered mails, it actually worked to
write them to the disc before the filter agent did his work. That's it.

Does really not one single KMail developer see this problem each and every
day?! I'd really like to help to fix this if anybody told me how …

[kmail2] [Bug 341681] New: Failure to transport message, must issue a STARTTLS command first. [Frameworks branch]

2014-12-08 Thread Dan O .
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=341681

Bug ID: 341681
Summary: Failure to transport message, must issue a STARTTLS
command first. [Frameworks branch]
   Product: kmail2
   Version: Git (master)
  Platform: Compiled Sources
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: misc
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: d...@redchops.com

Trying to send any email using any server that requires authentication fails
immediately. Testing on my own server, port 25 works fine, as it doesn't
require STARTTLS from localhost clients. When I switch to port 587 it fails,
the TCP stack is as follows:

220 mail.redchops.com ESMTP Postfix
EHLO equinox.localnet
250-mail.redchops.com
250-PIPELINING
250-SIZE 1024
250-VRFY
250-ETRN
250-STARTTLS
250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES
250-8BITMIME
250 DSN
AUTH PLAIN [base64 password removed, but it is
correct]
530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first

In the SMTP settings, the radio buttons for setting encryption doesn't seem to
do anything. If I set one, close the window then reopen it, all the radio icons
are cleared. That seems to me that it's not actually setting the encryption
level in some config file but I can't find where this setting saves to. Even if
I create a GMail account with the account wizard, the settings don't stick and
I can't send mail with that account either

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create an outgoing server that requires encryption
2. Try to send an email

Actual Results:
Email fails to send with the issue stated above, smtp never issues STARTTLS
upon connection to the server

Expected Results:
Mail is sent properly

Also, I should add that pressing Auto Detect connects to my server and issues
STARTTLS just find, interestingly enough, and sets the TLS encryption option in

the encryption setting.

I had an idea a minute ago..

Adding encryption=tls to .config/mailtransports under the transport allows
the mail to send successfully! Dumping TCP shows that it establishes the TLS
connection perfectly fine, and the mail sends. It bounces from its destination
because of bug 341457, but that's outside the scope of this bug.

KMail is unable to see this setting, the radio buttons are blank even though it
works, which leads me to believe that it can't read or set that particular
setting for whatever bizarre reason. This might be an easy fix to somebody more
familiar to the code than me, but I'll look through and see if I can submit a
patch myself.

Alright, tracked this one down, though I don't know why it does it. All I can
do is make a super cheap hack to make it work, but I don't want to distribute
it.

Whatever is sending the URL to SMTPProtocol::put() is sending a malformed
string. Instead of headers=0 which would turn off header generation, it's
sending eaders=0 which isn't recognized by the smtp job creator, and is
causing it to create new header information. I'll see if I can track down what
is generating the URL and figure out why it's clipping the first character, but
I certainly wouldn't be offended if somebody found it before me ;)

Fix the header problem

This patch fixes the parsing of the string passed to the SMTP KIO slave. It
appears it was merely a typo, where the function should have read mid(-1)
instead of mid(1). In any case, I have tested this on my machine and the
headers are no longer duplicated.
