[Akonadi] [Bug 404990] Sign in with Google temporarily disabled for this app
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=404990 --- Comment #47 from Nate Graham --- Right, that's basically Google trying to get people to use only email clients they pre-approve (obviously their own is on the "we've verified that it's secure" list). KMail isn't the only mail client to experience this issue. I went through the same thing with my mother-in-law's Apple Mail app a month or so ago; new account setup failed in exactly the same way, and the workaround was exactly the same; apparently Google demoted them too. After a few weeks Apple mail somehow got back on the approved list and setup with GMail was easy again. Unfortunately KDE lacks the size and market power of other email client publishers. This may be something we need to escalate to the KDE e.V. I'll see what I can do. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

I don't understand what this means in practical terms. Does it matter whether we call it a Kmail / Akonadi bug or Google being unhappy with what it does? After all, we are talking about gmail. The way I see it (and maybe I am wrong, then tell me) it can be fixed two ways: One is to convince Google that they are wrong and change their ways, the other would be to say we accept it as a feature bug and we fix it to make Google happy. I frankly don't care which route is taken as long as it gets done. If it was me, I knew which basket to put my eggs in, but I wouldn't impose... Please help me understand. I know that KDE software gets re-packaged by different distributions (SUSE, Gentoo, Ubuntu, and many others). After reading quite a bit of stuff, it looks to me as if the "Discover" software package manager and the "Neon" operating system were the nearest thing to an "official" early release of KDE software that exists. Am I wrong about that? (I understand that if I really want to keep up to date I need to compile / build programs from the source code. Maybe some day. Right now I just want to supply the missing documentation for KAddressBook.) I'm about half-way through the process of writing "index.docbook". I can pretty easily work around little glitches in the software I actually work with. I guess I'll just write some documentation, and let others fix any problems they notice. I appreciate your assistance. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

I tried to find the xxx.so plugin you mentioned in your first email, but had no luck. I did find a bunch of akonadi plugins in a ../qt5/... library, but the path was not even remotely similar to the one you mentioned. I'll just plunge ahead with the documentation and avoid mentioning any bugs that I run into from now on. I just installed an older version (5.7.3) of KAddressBook on an Ubuntu 18.04.3 box (which is the only version of Linux that seems to be relatively stable on my new computer), and it has the "bug" in it, whereas 5.7.3 installed under openSUSE LEAP 15.0 (my old, smaller, and much slower machine) didn't. Here are a couple of pictures from the Ubuntu system. So I guess the missing plugin, or whatever it is, has more to do with the "flavor" of Linux and less to do with the version of KAddressBook. [Akonadi] [Bug 399167] Akonadi enters deadlock state which makes it completely unuseable
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=399167 --- Comment #24 from David Faure --- Git commit 15c91a0ac93051465b37807efceb6e9fd36cb73b by David Faure. Committed on 16/08/2019 at 09:27. Pushed by dfaure into branch 'Applications/18.12'. Akonadi: fix dangling transaction after itemsync failure Summary: TransactionSequence was emitting result() twice when rolling back. * How did this happen? The TransactionRollbackJob is (automatically) added as a subjob of the TransactionSequence, so when it finishes, slotResult is called (like for all subjobs), as well as rollbackResult(). Since the latter emits result() already [mostly for symmetry with commitResult()], we don't need to do that in slotResult (which doesn't do it for the case of committing, either). * Why is it a problem to emit result() twice? Well, first, it's against the law in KJob world. In practice, ItemSyncPrivate::slotTransactionResult was called twice (for the same TransactionSequence job) which made it decrement mTransactionJobs one time too many. As a result, checkDone() finished too early and didn't go into the "commit transaction" branch for other transactions. Leaving a transaction "open" is a good recipe for database deadlocks further down the line. * Why did the TransactionSequence roll back in the first place? In my case because of the infamous and not-yet fixed "Multiple merge candidates" problem, but it seems that it can also happen when having items without a part, according to Volker's investigations. All of these issues still need to be fixed, but at least akonadi seems to be still usable after they happen. Test Plan: Ctrl+L in kmail, with a folder having multiple items for the same RID Reviewers: dvratil, vkrause Reviewed By: dvratil Subscribers: kfunk, kde-pim Tags: #kde_pim Differential Revision: https://phabricator.kde.org/D19487 (cherry picked from commit f1281cf18f40fd69acd61c31b48f5ce43e138eea) (cherry picked from commit 8ff596c4fe15199b66262c624d8b7c8d8ec7368f) M +0-2src/core/jobs/transactionsequence.cpp https://commits.kde.org/akonadi/15c91a0ac93051465b37807efceb6e9fd36cb73b -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
