2019-11-08 Thread Anders Lund
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=386985

I have this problem after updating to nextcloud 16. I can tell that I can
create events using korganizer, and they appear in the NextCloud Calendar app
and on my phone etc, but no events are ever fetched. Restarting the resource in
korganizer settings briefly shows "fetching 0%" for each calendar, I
confirmed by looking in akonadiconsole that the resource only contains locally
created events.

[kmail2] [Bug 403851] New: KMail often chokes, and have to be restarted

2019-02-02 Thread Anders Lund
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=403851

Bug ID: 403851
Summary: KMail often chokes, and have to be restarted
   Product: kmail2
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: and...@alweb.dk
  Target Milestone: ---

Very often, sometimes many times a day, kmail appears to stop working. It does
not fetch new mail, mail can not be sent, and/or mail can not be displayed.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use KMail for a while. suspend the system a few times.
2. At some point, get suspcious because you do not get mail
3. Get annoyed, because suddenly kmail will not display any mail, instead the
infamous BSOD appears whenever a mail header is clicked. If a header is
doubleclidked, a infinite "fetching message ..." progress dialog is spawned.

OBSERVED RESULT
Kmail is unstable, not safe to use. The cure is to quit (sometimes with a
crash), restart akonadi wait a bit and launch kmail again. Sometimes this needs
to be repeated.

EXPECTED RESULT
Working mail client.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Archlinux
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.14.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 18.12.1
Qt Version: 5.12

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I use a laptop, which is closed (=> suspended) often. I suspect that the
problem is more likely to happen after waking up after a suspension.

Due to the instability, I rely very little on korganizer these days,
but I believe the situation has improved, since it was a long time
since I experienced my calendars being completely dropped.

[Akonadi] [Bug 351803] IMAP stopped working

2017-06-23 Thread Anders Lund
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=351803

--- Comment #5 from Anders Lund <and...@alweb.dk> ---
I stopped using kmail some months ago, as it became 100% unusable. I
think there is no way forward for kmail, as long as akonadi is used.
Any non-akonadi mail client I tried works fine. As did kmail in
pre-akonadi times.

Akonadi is not usable for mail, in my configuration. I believe it has
to do with the mail server my mail service offers. I have heard that it
works for some, though.

Bug ID: 351803
   Summary: IMAP stopped working
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 1.13.0
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: grave
  Priority: NOR
 Component: IMAP resource
  Assignee: chrig...@fastmail.fm
  Reporter: and...@alweb.dk
CC: kdepim-bugs@kde.org, vkra...@kde.org

Kmail is no longer usable as a mail client, since it does not fetch mail. When
starting the PC, it fetches mail once, after that I am not able to get it to
fetch new mail. I can view one message per restart of akonadi.
Updating folders does not cause new mail to become available.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. wait some time
2.
3.

Actual Results:
New mail is not becoming available.

Expected Results:
New mail becomes available regularly.

I use Plasma 5 desktop, updated arch packages for everything.

[Akonadi] [Bug 345570] New: korganizer displays events with status:cancelled

2015-03-27 Thread Anders Lund
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=345570

Bug ID: 345570
Summary: korganizer displays events with status:cancelled
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: DAV Resource
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: and...@alweb.dk

When removing an instance of a repeated event on android, it creates a event
with STATUS:CANCELLED in the ical event. On android (and google calendar and
maybe other places?) this event kinda evens out the other one, so in android
neither the original (repeated) or the CANCELLED event is displayed. In
korganizer both shows.
FWIW, owncloud also shows both events.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Have a calDAV calendar, for example on owncloud, and create a resource for
it in your android device and in korganizer.
2. Create a repeated event.
3. In android, delete a single instance of the event (tap event to edit, tap
the trashcan, select this instance only, confirm).

Actual Results:
In android: The instance of the repeated event is removed from the view.
In korganizer (and owncloud web interface): Both the repeated event and the one
supposed to cancel it is displayed.

Expected Results:
In android: functions well.
In Korganizer (and owncloud): The cancelling event should be respected, so that
neither shows.

No such file. But I created it, turned nepomuk back on and restarted kmail. No
completion apart from recent addresses = usual bad experience :\

Now, after a reboot and a bit of waiting, I actually appear to have functional
completion.

But why not make it the other way around - make it difficult to turn the
madness *on* ? Afterall, the only argument I ever heard for using nepomuk for
completion was that the other method have problems with massive addressbooks.

And, is it considered to try and fix the issue with akonadi loosing it all the
time with webdav?

[kaddressbook] [Bug 317372] New: removing tags does not work

2013-03-26 Thread Anders Lund
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=317372

Bug ID: 317372
Summary: removing tags does not work
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: kaddressbook
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: and...@alweb.dk
CC: to...@kde.org

When editing tags for a contact, kaddressbook uses a dialog that I suspect
comes from nepomuk. This dialog comes with an option to delete a tag, in the
GUI represented by a rec X in the right side of the tag in the list. Clicking
it, I am asked wheather to remove the tag from all files. I say yes, and
probably, a nepomuk query removes the tag from all files and deletes it.

But the tag is not removed from all contacts.

Instead, contacts that use the tag, now appears to have a unnamed tag -
sometimes more, if more tags was removed. Now, edting such a contacts
categories leads to a horrible state, namely the display of categories named
nepomuk:/resource=woihtrwlgjrdlfgbdf or thereabout. How embarassing!

It seems to me, that when the nepomuk tag is removed, action should be taken to
remove the corresponding category from all contacts.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. add some tags to some contacts
2. wait for it to apply throughout the chain
3. edit a contact categries, and use the option to remove a tag. Accept to
remove the tag from all files
4. edit the tags of a contact which now have empty tags, check or uncheck other
tags than the anonymous one[s]
Actual Results:
some contacts have empty tags.
the contact edited in step 4 have tags named nepomuk:/

Expected Results:
the removed tag should be removed for real, and no empty/anonymous tags should
exist.

My address books are stored in owncloud, but this also affects local
addressbooks using vcard files

no testing from me.

As long as you associate the configuration with anything else but the URL of

My immediate choice would be a toggle action, in the Message menu and context
menu, along with Use fixed font.

Compared to now, you would still have to turn it on/off, just as with the pr
folder prererence, so no more work. I can see that there is a precedence to be
decided there - my take would be that the pr message setting has the higher
precedence.

I would like to suggest a pr message option to view as HTML. This should be
remembered as a tag or flag for the message, so that it wouldn't have to be
restated for each view.

Reasoning: Some messages contains HTML formatting that makes text
representation useless, for example tables actually used for tabular data. With
the current options, I have to change the setting for the folder twice each
time I want to view such a message.

[Akonadi] [Bug 314206] New: Korganizer and KAddressbook forgets that resources are enabled

2013-01-31 Thread Anders Lund
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=314206

Bug ID: 314206
Summary: Korganizer and KAddressbook forgets that resources are
enabled
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 4.10
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: CONFIRMED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: DAV Resource
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: and...@alweb.dk

Gr.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. add a DAV resource with an owncloud service in the other end
2. add your calendars and addressbooks from the owncloud service
3. start kaddressbook or korganizer
4. First hit of misbehavior: The resources are not enabled. Enable them (after
figuring it out).
5. exit
6. start again
Actual Results:
owncloud calendars or addressbooks are NOT enabled - some times

Expected Results:
of course resources should be enabled, ALWAYS. I eneabled them, didn't I??

Frankly, judging from experience and the amount of nempmuk activity, my guess
is that akonadi DROPS resources, and then refinds them and assigns new id's.
This is one of the things making one consider if linux and KDE is really worth
the fight! Resources used to work, so we are evolving backwards. AGH.
Sorry. But I really hoped this was over, but its not :(

Start kmail, and use it normally. In may case, sooner or later - sometime
during the day, some folder will have this problem. Not the inbox, a folder
where mails are moved to by a filter, in my case those are mailing list
folders, in an IMAP account. I never saw more than one folder with wrong count
at a time, and I have seen a miscount one or two. The issue is new since
running KDE 4.10 RC1.

Now two folders.

So, restarting kmail:
* Ctrl + Q
* wait 10 sec
* issue 'kmail' in krunner
* crash
* issue 'kmail' in krunner
* bouncing cursor for lng...
* krunner won't show, so issuing killall kmail in a konsole window
* issue 'kmail' in krunner, that now can show again
* kmail starts

Now, the missing mails show - so deeper down, the problem is that the folders
do not know about all the mails that the folder list count does... :$

I know you are all busy, and I also really love to see kmail evolve with nice
pace currently.

However, all apps using akonadi shows a button to start it if does not run.
Maybe the result of clicking that should include restarting the app then?
(though I do not experience problems with this outside kmail)

Another thought: Kmail does know how to save the state, as it starts with the
state as when closed.

One of the killer features of kmail is identities and the ability to associate

so if I have folders

KDE/

I could set an identity KDE for the top folder and then all other folders would

Kmail communicates very little. The syncing thing is merely a blink, and adds
no valuable communication except during fetching - and even then only little
so. You can only click the arrow for long lasting operations - and if you do,
and the operation finishes, you are stuck with the widget open for next
operation (but that is another issue).

Sometimes. Most often, restarting akonadi fixes it.

I think this happens during updating trouble. I believe that my webdav
resources are still not kept in any stable manner by akonadi, they loose their
akonadi ids along with each item in them, leading to cpu abuse and breakage for
example wrt contact groups.

More apsects of this horror, now running KDE 4.9.3:

* Often, starting kmail takes 30 seconds, during which time the virtuoso-t is
hammering my poor system.

* When I ask kmail for the configure filters... dialog, instead of showing
it, it starts a what feels like an infinite virtuoso-t madness session.
Sometimes I am lucky that the dialog appears before I get tired and kill kmail
( 1 minute, I really try to be patient...)

Of course these does not happen with nepomuk entirely disabled.

[Bug 283548] Only first filter in chain works for incoming messages

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283548

--- Comment #36 from Anders Lund and...@alweb.dk ---
Trying to pay attention today to what happens...
I have a message that was filtered, and correctly moved to spam and marked as
read.
Later this message reappeared in my inbox, now marked as read, and with a
indicator in the header that it is spam.
It turns out that it is still in the IMAP inbox, so akonadi didn't move it, but
copy it to spam.

I have quite a few of theese during a day :(

Sometimes the graphical spam indicator is not shown, even though the header
exists in the email when I view the source.

Judging from the filter, akonadi thinks it moves the message into spam each
time it reappears, but there is only one copy in spam, and one in inbox.

So in my case it looks like the problem is not the filter chain, but akonadis
general confused-ness about what is what and where it is.

however, I am using IMAP. The problem might be different when using POP3.

[Bug 283548] Only first filter in chain works for incoming messages

2012-10-14 Thread Anders Lund
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283548

--- Comment #40 from Anders Lund and...@alweb.dk ---
(In reply to comment #39)
Isn't spam emails re-appearing in the inbox a different issue than this bug
 report refers to?

Yes. But it can easily be confused, since if a message in inbox looks like it
should be in spam, it is a near thought that it was marked as read, but not
moved.

However, the move is the first action, and the filter log shows that all
actions was applied, or tried to be applied.

Bug ID: 307806

Summary: akonadi empties my groups/distribution lists regularly
Classification: Unclassified

  Reporter: and...@alweb.dk
  Hardware: Other
Status: NEW
 Component: general
   Product: Akonadi

I have a setup where my addressbook is stored in owncloud, so that it can be
shared between devices.

Unfortunately, this storage does not appear to support groups, so I created a
personal contacts resource for this purpose.

Problem: my groups are so often emptied, in kaddressbook the page is blank, if
I edit such a destroyed group, I see a list of the contact does not exist any
more. But IT DOES. All my people are in my addressbook, and listed just below
in kaddressbook.

It looks to me like akonadi just drops and recreates these contacts every time
they are synced, causing a new id to be assigned, breaking my groups.

Btw, I also think this adds to the insane CPU abuse akonadi causes by running
nepomuk stuff ALL THE TIME.

There is a similar problem with the caldav calendars from owncloud, though less
frustrating because no other data is destroyed in that case

2012-10-04 Thread Anders Lund
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=307807

--- Comment #4 from Anders Lund and...@alweb.dk ---
Of course it is very good to ensure that the right nepomuk code is used.

But it is equally importnat that ALL aspects of this area is optimized. For
example there is a patch waiting that should prevent reindexing when flags are
changed.

On my system, my owncloud resources are often dropped, and judging from the
virtuoso-t activity when they are rediscovered, they are also reindexed again.
Quite absurd, for my calendars + contacts! Let me know if I can help
investigate or if my log files can help!

What happens with new mail? Receiving a few mails costs minutes of virtuoso-t
activity 30-50% CPU here, and that can not be reasonable, even given
virtuoso-t or nepomuk inefficiency - indexing many times the amount of images
or documents is barely visible. So I can't help wondering if messages are
indexed more than once, for example when moved by a filter. If that is the
case, there is a low-hanging fruit to pick!

Mail that is set as spam by my bogofilter should NEVER be indexed, so can trust
that mail in trash folders are never indexed right? But that is not enough, as
long as filtering is not always trustworthy itself, often spam messages are
left in the inbox, and it is still silly to index it. Is there a header I can
add to prevent that from happening? (and that the spam filtering wizard could
add to the filters it creates!)

Not sure what you mean by the resources are dropped, but if they go
offline and come online again, and there is no new data, there should also
 be no indexing happening.

When this happens, contacts are not recognized in groups in my personal
contacts resource any longer, which indicates to me - togeather with the
intensive virtuoso-t activity - that something bad is going on.

There is no new data though, data changes caused by me changing or adding
contacts from another device does not cause problems.

[Bug 305073] Filtering often duplicates messages

2012-09-27 Thread Anders Lund
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=305073

--- Comment #1 from Anders Lund and...@alweb.dk ---
Hvaing observed this highly annoying misbehavior for some time now, I can say
that the copying happens when I enter my inbox. The copied messages are from
the last batch, not all messages are copied. Spam messages are sometimes copied
to the inbox. Message copies have to be remved by using the remove duplicate
messages action, or by deleting them manually, or (in case of spam) hitting
CTRL + J. Updating folders (or restarting kmail) does not cause removal.

Worsening the problem is the fact that the copied messages are unread, so I
have after visiting my inbox a false unread mails count in some folders.

The problem only happens once for each batch of fetched mails.

With mail indexing enabled, I can search my mail. But the cost is high, looking
at CPU usage and in turn battery life. When any attribute of a mail is changed,
enough CPU is used to start the fan :0

This includes marking as read, setting a flag etc.

It must be possible to change only one little data, instead of reindexing the
entrie mail (I'm just guessing that that is what happens)

This may not happen on a stronger hardware, but on my netbook this is bad,
means it will be a bad idea to run kmail while on battery

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. receive mail
2. wait untill the initial indexing of the new mail is done
3. go to an unread mail
Actual Results:
2-3 seconds of virtuoso-t using 35% CPU
fan starts

Expected Results:
mail getting marked as read without such noise

Produced what is in the Expected Results box above ;)

One thought is that the file indexing never runs while on battery. Maybe it
would be clever to do the same with mail indexing?

When you mark a bug like this as upstream, does that mean it is just sent to

This is still a problem with KDE 4.9. When using the classify as spam filter

the SPAM version that is the right one. Then a hidden dialog exists, and untill

Bug ID: 305073
  Severity: normal
   Version: 4.9.0
  Priority: NOR
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
   Summary: Filtering often duplicates messages
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
  Reporter: and...@alweb.dk
  Hardware: Archlinux Packages
Status: NEW
 Component: filtering
   Product: kmail2

My setup: pop3 account, maildir resource. Filters move messages from mailing
lists into folders, mostly based on the List-Id header.

Messages from lists are sometimes, but not always duplicated in the destination
folders. Duplications is no longer infinitely repeated, but it is still very
annoying.

The folder-remove duplicates action finds and removes these duplicates.

Reproducible: Sometimes

[Bug 296299] New: receiving pop3 mail causes unresobably high cpu abuse and meaningless blinking with status icon enabled

2012-03-18 Thread Anders Lund
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=296299

Bug ID: 296299
  Severity: normal
   Version: 1.99.0
  Priority: NOR
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
Summary: receiving pop3 mail causes unresobably high cpu abuse
and meaningless blinking with status icon enabled
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
  Reporter: and...@alweb.dk
  Hardware: Other
Status: NEW
 Component: general
   Product: kmail2

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686) KHTML/4.8.1 (like Gecko)
Konqueror/4.8
Build Identifier:

Receiving mail with kmail2 + maildir + filters is painfully slow, receiving 10
mails sometimes takes 15 seconds of 60% CPU load. Most of the load appears
to come from mysqld. Mail indexing is disabled.

It also causes the conflict resolution dialog to show without user interaction,
which is clearly a sign of misdesign! the changed data is always the update
time. Maybe the update time is changed everytime a filter is run, without
considering if that changes anything?

This clearly shows that the filtering is done all wrong, it should be done from
the top. The current way it feels like the secratary puts all mail in a pile on
the desk, and starts ripping it out of my hands to sort it, while I try to read
it. I have learned to never believe the ready in kmail2s statusbar, but check
in the process table first if any possibly related processes are active.

During the time, the status area icon is blinking, causing the entire plasma
panel to relayout, often without changing the number of mails - this make me
think that it is updated for no reason, every time a filter is run, matching or
not.

Running kmail without power available is bad, since it uses so much power that
the battery time much affected (allthough having indexing disabled helps on
that part, along with the fixes in the nepomuk area)

There is no maildir or filter component of the akonadi procuct, so I thought I
would file this here under kmail2. Sorry if that is all wrong.

Reproducible: Always

[Bug 294441] kmail stays in offline mode, unable to send emails

2012-03-12 Thread Anders Lund
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=294441

--- Comment #32 from Anders Lund and...@alweb.dk ---
Yes *please* let us have updated arch package! The situation is unbearable,
unacceptable!

Kmail have problems however, why does sending mails not become enabled when
kmail is switched to online status? It asks if I want to go online, and then
does not.

2012-03-12 Thread Anders Lund
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=294441

--- Comment #38 from Anders Lund and...@alweb.dk ---
I have this problem with archlinux and kde 4.8.1, though not all the time like
before, but often. For example if I resume in a place with no network, or
possibly just a different network (in the first case networking should be
disabled, but fails to come up later after connecting or resuming in a location
with a known network).

Seems like it depends on the network being up before kmail or akonadi or
whatever it is decides if it should be disabled.

[Bug 295868] New: next unread navigates into trash

2012-03-12 Thread Anders Lund
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=295868

Bug ID: 295868
  Severity: normal
   Version: 1.99.0
  Priority: NOR
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
Summary: next unread navigates into trash
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
  Reporter: and...@alweb.dk
  Hardware: Other
Status: NEW
 Component: commands and actions
   Product: kmail2

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686) KHTML/4.8.1 (like Gecko)
Konqueror/4.8
Build Identifier:

I use the + key to navigate to next unread mail. In kmail 1, this did not
navigate into trash, but now it does.

In combination with the huge lag kmail or akonadi have marking messages as
read, this often sends me to trash when not desired (the message list still
have a blue with inbox(1), even though the last message was changed to read in
the gui, so I press +), so I have to click my inbox to get back, and wait for
several seconds while it groups threads.

The missing ability of the spam filter to mark messages as read in 4.8.1 adds
to the problem, but even with unread messages in trash, shouldn't it be left
alone?

Reproducible: Always

[Bug 295558] cursor is misplaced when replying

2012-03-09 Thread Anders Lund
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=295558

--- Comment #2 from Anders Lund and...@alweb.dk ---
The cursor is misplaced with either of my templates, it is *always* placed at
the end of the last line of the quote.

I get

quoted textcursor here

no matter the template.

--- Comment #20 from Anders Lund and...@alweb.dk ---
Also present in kde 4.8.1. I believe this affects all akonadi resources, so
that remote calendars and addressbooks are also not updated when this
brokenness is active.

On my system this state is entered after resume from suspend.

[Bug 295558] New: cursor is misplaced replying

2012-03-08 Thread Anders Lund

Bug ID: 295558
  Severity: normal
   Version: 1.99.0
  Priority: NOR
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
   Summary: cursor is misplaced replying
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
  Reporter: and...@alweb.dk
  Hardware: Archlinux Packages
Status: NEW
 Component: composer
   Product: kmail2

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686) KHTML/4.8.1 (like Gecko)
Konqueror/4.8
Build Identifier:

When replying to a message, composer places the cursor directly after the
quote, no matter the template.

I have one template with
%QUOTE
%CURSOR

and one
%CURSOR

%QUOTE

In both cases the cursor is placed at the end of the last line of the quote.
For the second template, the empty lines are inserted at the top.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. check your reply template for where the cursor should be, and make sure it
should go on a new line, and that %QUOTE is used (just use the standard
template)
2. reply to a message to start composer using the template
Actual Results:
cursor is at the end of the last line of the quote

Expected Results:
cursor should adhere the template, the standard is to put it on a blank line
below the quote.
