[kmail2] [Bug 348474] New: Case sensistive sorting in folder list for destination in POP settings

2015-05-30 Thread abrahams
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=348474

Bug ID: 348474
Summary: Case sensistive sorting in folder list for destination
in POP settings
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.14.1
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: config dialog
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: abrah...@acm.org

It I go into configuration, then POP3 Account Settings, then Advanced, then
Destination Folder, the folder list is sorted with all uppercase entries
preceding all lowercase entries. That is unlikely to be what a user wants; it
certainly isn't what I want. The sort should be case insensitive.

If the folder list is long, a user may not realize why a lowercase folder
appears to be missing,

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

[kmail2] [Bug 318613] kmail forgets application association after restart

2013-06-09 Thread abrahams
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=318613

I've verified that the problem is with kmail, not file associations in general.
If I store the .wav file and then open it (from Dolphin or otherwise), it
opens correctly with Dragon Player. As far as I know, kmail2 doesn't have its
own facility for determining file associations, but tries to use the more
general mechanism.

[kmail2] [Bug 318613] New: kmail forgets application association after restart

2013-04-19 Thread abrahams
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=318613

Bug ID: 318613
Summary: kmail forgets application association after restart
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.9.5
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: config dialog
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: abrah...@acm.org

I have a message with an attached .wav file. When I attempt to open the
attachment, I get a dialog that asks me to choose an application. I choose
Dragon Player and then ask kmail to remember the association. Then Dragon
Player opens the .wav file, as it should. If I close Dragon Player and again
click on the attachment, kmail2 remembers that Dragon Player is my chosen
association -- as it should.

But if I now close kmail2 and restart it, the association has been forgotten,
and I again have to go through the dialog to choose Dragon Player.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Try to open an attachment to an incoming message.
2. Choose an application and ask that the association be remembered.
3. Use the selected application to examine the attachment.
4. Open the attachment again. kmail2 now offers to use the selected
application to open the attachment.
5. Close and reopen kmail2.
6. Try again to open the attachment. kmail2 has forgotten the association.

Expected Results:
After the restart, kmail should remember the association and offer to use it.

[Bug 296145] New: Random, nonreproducible crashes in kmail

2012-03-16 Thread abrahams
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=296145

Bug ID: 296145
  Severity: crash
   Version: unspecified
  Priority: NOR
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
Summary: Random, nonreproducible crashes in kmail
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
  Reporter: abrah...@acm.org
  Hardware: Ubuntu Packages
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Component: general
   Product: kmail2

Application: kmail (4.8.0)
KDE Platform Version: 4.8.1 (4.8.1)
Qt Version: 4.8.0
Operating System: Linux 3.0.0-17-generic x86_64
Distribution: Ubuntu 11.10

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed: Advancing through list of
emails

Notes:

1. I've had a lot of crashes in kmail recently. Today I had two within five
minutes.

2. Since there's no clear action that triggers this bug, there's no way to know
if it's a true duplicate of any other kmail bug. As far as I know I was not
doing anything that I haven't already done successfully many times.

The crash can be reproduced some of the time.

New crash information added by DrKonqi

kmail (4.8.0) on KDE Platform 4.8.1 (4.8.1) using Qt 4.8.0

- What I was doing when the application crashed:

I was trying to delete a particular message. Every time I tried to delete this
message, kmail crashed. The message appeared to be a duplicate of another
message, but I don't know whether the duplication was a kmail artifact or
whether the message was actually sent twice.

--- Comment #2 from abrahams acm org 2012-01-13 15:24:29 ---
The password wasn't bad -- in fact, I never had the chance to provide it!!

But not to worry. This was an RC1 problem that's been fixed, along with much
else, in RC2. My output gets sent correctly now.

--- Comment #30 from abrahams acm org 2012-01-05 16:37:14 ---
Is there a repository that contains the rc2 packages? I have the beta
repository on my synaptic list, but updating from there doesn't seem to pick up
those packages.

--- Comment #26 from abrahams acm org 2012-01-05 01:37:12 ---
I wonder how many of those encountering this crash -- and there are many --
migrated from kmail to kmail2. I know I did. If that's a common element, it
would suggest that the migration process itself introduced some kind of
baddity.

Summary: Message list is out of sync
   Product: kmail2

Status: UNCONFIRMED

Version: 4.8 (using Devel)
OS:Linux

This is a deliberate duplicate of Bug 290409. The severity should have been
listed as Major, not Normal, but I could not figure out how to change it.

The message shown in the message list is sometimes not the same one as the one
in the pane. This makes a great mess of deletions.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Open kmail2

Actual Results:
Message in pane is not the highlighted one.

Expected Results:
It should be the highlighted one.

When I try to send a message via SMTP, I get the bad password message. What's
worse is that the message then vanishes. It's not in the outbox, it's not in
Sent Messages, and it's not in Trash.

I tried disabling the stored password, but I never was asked for it when I
tried to send the message. I got the Bad Password message in this case even
though I never got to provide a password.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Send a message via an SMTP account.

Actual Results:
Bad Password message, followed by a transient message Local folders: failed to
change flag for message. Email message then vanishes.

Expected Results:
The message should be sent.

[Bug 290410] Crash on exit from kmail

2012-01-02 Thread abrahams
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=290410

--- Comment #2 from abrahams acm org 2012-01-02 16:59:20 ---
What should I do to verify that crash (which is only one of my kmail problems
now)? I see the message on the screen after I quit. What more information
would there be? I've already submitted a backtrace. And now I get the crash
on every exit.

Right now my inbox is badly out of sync and I can't find any way to straighten
it out. The message in the index is not the same as the message in the lower
pane. And when I delete a message, it doesn't go away; instead it gets grayed
out in the index.

I don't know if all my kmail problems are interconnected, but there are many of
them. They all started after I migrated from kmail.

Similar problem here with KDE/kmail 4.73 -- according to Synaptic, the latest
available for my Kubuntu system. I can clear the Waiting message sometimes
by moving to another message in the inbox, but something is clearly very wrong
here. A recent update is probably responsible, since I never saw this message
until recently.

[Bug 284704] New: Help file lacks any information about maildir accounts

2011-10-22 Thread abrahams
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=284704

Summary: Help file lacks any information about maildir accounts
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.7
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: abrah...@acm.org

Version: 4.7 (using KDE 4.7.2)
OS:Linux

The description of Account setup in the Help file describes only the case of
Pop3 and IMap accounts, which have Sending and Receiving specifications. It
says nothing about maildir accounts. Information about maildir accounts is
needed, especially since their behavior is difficult to anticipate.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Look at the help file

Actual Results:
Nothing on maildir accounts

Expected Results:
Information about maildir accounts

OS: Linux (x86_64) release 3.0.0-12-generic
Compiler: gcc

I too have the problem that my kmail outbox is not being emptied. That's with
kmail 4.7.2, and in .config/akonadi/agent_config_akonadi_maildispatcher_agent,
Online is already set to True and on/off toggling of the MDA in akonadiconsole
does nothing. My kmail configuration is a disaster; I migrated from kmail to
kmail2, and when that wasn't working right I made the mistake of deleting the
Local Folders account, not knowing its purpose (it doesn't look like an
account). For a while I was able to send mail, but no longer.

There is no reason I can see for Local Folders being listed as an account,
since it doesn't resemble any other account and isn't used for sending and
receiving. Thinking it was there in error, I deleted it and lost all my email.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Delete the Local Folders account

Actual Results:
All your email is lost.

Expected Results:
At a very minimum, there should be a warning that you're about to delete all
your email.

Local Folders should not be listed as an account. The setting for the
location of the local folders should be somewhere else.

[Bug 258537] Mail folder location documented incorrectly in Help

2010-12-06 Thread abrahams

--- Comment #10 from abrahams acm org 2010-12-07 02:34:56 ---
I would guess now that since the problem lies in kmailrc, the fix would come
from the Kubuntu team rather than from the KDE team. Is it indeed the case
that kmailrc is built by the Kubuntu team?

[Bug 258537] Mail folder in wrong place, cannot be replaced

2010-12-03 Thread abrahams
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=258537

--- Comment #6 from abrahams acm org 2010-12-03 15:55:22 ---
Perhaps I should clarify what I think the problem is. I've solved my own
problem, since I now know how to find the mail file and also how to change its
location. I see two things that need fixing:

1, If the mail is not *always* in ~/Mail, then the help file should not say
without qualification that it is there.

2. The kmail settings should include the location of the mail file, without any
reference to Akonadi. It shouldn't be necessary for an ordinary user to know
anything about Akonadi, which is after all a tool for implementers.

To answer your question about KDE 4.5.3: if you bring up the kmail settings
from Configure kmail, you get a tab with six choices: Identities, Accounts,
Appearance, Composer, Security, and Misc. Nothing about Entry, and nothing I
can find for setting the location of the mail file.

I don't see that screen when I go to the same place. We clearly aren't working
with the same version of kmail since mine is in English and yours is in German.
I don't know if that's the only difference. My version is 1.13.5 under KDE
Development version 4.5.3.

--- Comment #2 from abrahams acm org 2010-12-02 17:49:14 ---
I see now that the location of the mail file is indeed set in kmailrc. But
there's still a problem in that the documentation does not correspond to
reality. I don't know how or where kmailrc is constructed, but if that's where
the location of the mail file is established, then it needs to be corrected.
Even if the location is distribution-dependent (which it really shouldn't be),
that fact needs mention in the help file.

If the Mail folder is not always where the help file says it is, then something
needs to be fixed. And if the location is to be variable, there should be a
way to set it without having to edit kmailrc.

According to the kmail help file, mail is kept in ~/Mail.  That is incorrect;
it is kept in .kde/share/apps/kmail/mail. At least in my Kubuntu system
(10.04), ~/Mail does not exist at all.

Another related problem is that you can't just copy a Mail file from some other
installation and plug it into the mail location cited above. If you try to do
that, you get a message:

KMail could not create folder '/home/pwa/.kde/share/apps/kmail/mail';
please make sure that you can view and modify the content of the folder
'/home/pwa'.

That message appears to be bogus.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Place a file in .kde/share/apps/kmail/mail and try to start kmail.

Actual Results:
Message cited above.

Expected Results:
Replacement file treated as the existing message set.
