I thought that kmail did already pick the correct appp since if you click on an
attachment the dialoge that opens has save as open with libre office open
with… cancel.

Opening the file from dolphin does work as expected.

You skipped the first question, the one about the mail headers.

But you're right, I hadn't noticed that in your description, the app name on
the button is actually correct... Very weird.

down.
I should have said MIME headers of the attachment rather than mail headers,
my bad.

Yes, you can also just email me a test .docx file, but your kmail might do the
right thing so it might just work. Well, we'll see :)

What is the mimetype written out inside the email headers?

What does kmimetypefinder foo.docx return for you?

And if libre office doesn't have the right mimetypes in its desktop file, then
that's actually a libreoffice issue.
