See http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=136810
It was about a dependency on kmail just because of the kmail icon.
I don't know if it is still an issue in 4.x

Thunderbird store those tags as $label1, $label2, etc.
So will be good to add in Kontact storing tags like thunderbird, and add
 support for thunderbird tags.

Just to be explicit: arbitrary tags should be synced as IMAP keywords. The
Thunderbird $label1-5 keywords are a leftover of an earlier label
implementation of Thunderbird, I think, or an attempt to create a number of
(nonstandard) 'standard' labels (Important, Work, Home, Todo, Later) that could
be made language-independent.

Also, when talking to GMail over IMAP, take into account that GMail labels can
be synced either as folders and as labels (see
https://developers.google.com/gmail/imap_extensions#access_to_gmail_labels_x-gm-labels)
in a single folder. Some people will prefer the latter behavior (as it mimicks
the GMail webmail client).

Idem, with 4.11.3. The calendars indeed disappeared from KOrganizer, but a more

I just had it nearly kill my system using all memory + swap after it thought
it encountered invalid cert on davical server.

I can confirm this for 4.12.5. I encountered the same type of behavior: after a
problem verifying the server certificate (dav part of akonadi seems to be
unable to properly deal with being offline while starting up) the process took
all resources of one of my two CPU cores and started eating up GB of RAM
(killed it before it took down my system).

I mainly had this when I am using my 3G connection. But also when the system
starts up and the connection is still build. I also had this problem on
wireless networks which require a login

The main annoying part is the fact that there is not one but several error
messages and also that that it makes a sound. Which of course I could turn
of, but I would consider this a general problem. If there is a problem the
error message should be less intruding, because in most of the cases it wont
matter since the network will be restored.
So my suggestion would be only to notify the user if the problem exists for
a longer time (x min). X may be 10 min. And then only one notification for
all resources. May be after another x min another and so on.

I can second this request: whenever my upstream link to the internet breaks
(temporarily) or whenever I am on a network where no full connection to the
internet exists, a superfluous number of notification messages appears.

From time to time a mysterious Server Authentication - [name] of type DAV
groupware resource dialog pops up. The message is as follows:
 --- snip ---
The server failed the authenticity check ([server url]).
The certificate authority's certificate is invalid
The root certificate authority's certificate is not trusted for this purpose
The certificate cannot be verified for internal reasons
 --- snap ---
If I browse to the URL using Konqueror, KDE seems to trust the certificate.

I'm not sure when and why this happens (I think it comes from an instable
 IPv6 connection).[...]

I also encounter this on KDE 4.12.5. No ipv6 involved however. A nasty
consequence of this error is a massive CPU and RAM usage (see bug #310743)

I think this feature request is still very much relevant.

(In reply to Karsten Dambekalns from comment #12)
Ok, breaking a thread is easy to mimic (create filter that removes the
needed headers, bind that to a shortcut).

What about linking? Filters can add headers, but I'd need to know the msg-id
for this to work. I could look it up, but then I'd have to edit the filter
first, then run it. Any better solution?

This seems to indicate almost all functionality is present in KMail except for
filters that can take two (or more... In-Reply-To may contain multiple ids)
ordered arguments (highlighted mails), no?

[kmail2] [Bug 283020] Store Kmail Tags in IMAP flags, like Thunderbird

2014-11-12 Thread Erik Quaeghebeur
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283020

--- Comment #9 from Erik Quaeghebeur kdeb...@equaeghe.nospammail.net ---
(In reply to David Alston from comment #6)
I recognize that it may take quite a bit of coding to implement something
 like this.

I just looked at a mail from an IMAP mailbox in the Akonadiconsole: all the
flags are there!! (In the tab ‘Internals’) The tab just to the left of it
‘Nepomuk’ (I’m on 4.12.5 still) contains the Akonadi tags. Also, the so-called
IMAP system flags (\Seen, \Answered,...), which are also in this tab, are
already exposed in such a way that KMail can get to them and modify them.

So, actually, this shouldn’t be a big coding task: in the same way the system
flags are synced, the non-system flags could be synced to Akonadi tags. (I
actually tried to solve the same issue for OfflineIMAP; see
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.mail.imap.offlineimap.general/6164 and the
amount of code changes needed was adding ~12 lines and modifying ~28 lines.)

I can’t seem to modify data in the ‘Internals’ tab (read-only mode?) to add a
custom flag to see if it is synced to the server; the other way around works:
flags set in Trojita get synced to Akonadi (via the IMAP server).

My question to the developers is: am I corrent in thinking this is, code-wise,
not a big issue? If so, what is holding this back most: lack of time, design
decisions (not sure if you want to map IMAP flags to Akonadi tags), something
else? What could we do to speed up implementation? (Start a small crowdfuning
campaign?) Would implementing a small Akonadi agent that does this syncing (and
which we can test) be more feasible than immediate integration into the main
IMAP agent?

[kmail2] [Bug 283020] Store Kmail Tags in IMAP flags, like Thunderbird

2014-11-14 Thread Erik Quaeghebeur
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283020

--- Comment #10 from Erik Quaeghebeur kdeb...@equaeghe.nospammail.net ---
(In reply to Erik Quaeghebeur from comment #9)
 [...], the
so-called IMAP system flags (\Seen, \Answered,...), which are also in this
tab, are already exposed in such a way that KMail can get to them and modify
 them.

And not only those, but also application ones like $WATCHED and $TODO.

Furthermore, *there is synchronization with nepomuk tags happening*: I clicked
a bit on the statuses in the ‘Intelligent with clickable status’ message view
theme, and at some point a ‘Gewenste post’ (Dutch for Non Junk) appeared in my
tags (as viewed in the akonadiconsole), while $NonJunk appeared in the IMAP
label list. This behavior was very flakey: contradictory/unsynced tags and
labels existed for some time, at some point $Junk, $JUNK, $NonJunk, $NONJUNK
were all present as labels... (I'm on 4.12.5 still and Nepomuk indexing/tagging
is... not working that well; I hope that my distro moves to =4.13 soon and
test this more deeply.)

So: it seems almost all the functionality that is needed is there, it ‘just’
needs to be extended to user-defined tags. My question for the developers is
again: am I correct in my assessment of the situation? Can we non-developers do
anything to enable implementation (like a small crowdfunding campaign to pay a
developer to create the necessary time needed)?

[Akonadi] [Bug 341116] New: cannot edit IMAP flags; Save button stays grayed-out

2014-11-20 Thread Erik Quaeghebeur
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=341116

Bug ID: 341116
Summary: cannot edit IMAP flags; Save button stays grayed-out
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 4.12
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: akonadiconsole
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: kdeb...@equaeghe.nospammail.net

I cannot edit data using the Akonadiconsole. For example, when I try to add an
IMAP flag to a mail message from an IMAP resource, the Save button stays
grayed-out and does not become enabled when a flag is added to the list.

That the Save button should become enabled seems to be the intended behavior,
as reported to me by Kevin Krammer on the kdepim-users list (cf.
http://lists.kde.org/?l=kdepim-usersm=141642026411293).

Reproducible: Always

Even though no developers have been active on this bug, they do seem to work
towards is solution. I bumped into a blog post of a year ago where they mention
working on this functionality:

http://www.dvratil.cz/2013/11/kde-pim-sprint-report/ “Using Akonadi to store
tags”

In the mean time, if I interpret the commit logs correctly, it seems that
porting to KF5 has taken the upper hand over adding functionality.

  multipart/alternative [text/x-moz-deleted(attachment disposition)]

instead of

On the other hand

  multipart/mixed [text/plain, application/pdf(attachment disposition)]

and

correctly give

I tested, and this is still present in 4.14.3. Perhaps the original reporter or
a developer can update the version in the bug description?

[Akonadi] [Bug 340931] Read status of emails not updated when changed outside KMail, but only for GMail accounts via IMAP

--- Comment #3 from Erik Quaeghebeur kdeb...@equaeghe.nospammail.net ---
This just now started happening to me for a Cyrus IMAP server after updating to
KDE SC 4.14.3 from 4.12.5. I assume there must be some connection to KMail,
because akonadi-server had been updated already to 1.13.0 some weeks before.

My investigation turned up the following:

* When opening the mailbox with kmail, they appeared as unread.

* When opening with akonadi-console, the messages in the mailbox had no flags
(or keywords) set at all.

* When opening the mailbox using Thunderbird, everything worked fine.

* When opening with Trojita, its IMAP implementation complained that there were
non-parseable flags (or did it say keywords? that would be more correct),
namely, [EXPUNGED], and [ARCHIVED]. It is not clear to me whether the '['
and ']' characters are disallowed by the IMAP RFCs (they seem valid in modified
UTF-7, I think.)

I therefore did the following: I used Firefox to remove those keywords, after
which all the other clients behaved as they should: picking up all flags and
keywords. (KMail does not show the keywords, of course, see Bug 283020.)

My conclusion is therefore that the IMAP resource chokes on such keywords. If
these are not invalid according to the RFC, the resource's flag/keyword parser
should be modified to be able to deal with them. If these are invalid, upstream
bugs should be filed to the generators of those keywords and perhaps workaround
code for know invalid keywords could be included.

To verify my conclusion, another affected user should install Trojita and sees
what it lists. (They can of course also use akonadi-console or Thunderbird for
further tests.)

If verified somebody with sufficient IMAP RFC erudition should shine a light on
whether such keywords are valid or not. Then a course of action can be taken.
(Modifying the parser should not be that big of a modification, no?)

It seems bug 333150 is a duplicate of this. Please mark it as such and have a
look at the comments there, as I analyzed the problem and found it seems to
occur only with a specific MIME structure. This should be easy to fix and
should be a priority, as it leads to data loss.

However, I wonder if those brackets are just in the dialog your test program
showed you and not in the actual flags on your server? I did a manual IMAP
connection to my Cyrus IMAP server and examined one of the e-mails in
question. I don't see any flags with brackets in their name: [...]

No, the brackets were indeed there: KMail and Trojita choked on them, but
Thunderbird accepted them. I removed them using Thunderbird (and not Firefox,
of course, as I stated in my earlier report) and then everything went fine.

Trojita's http://trojita.flaska.net/ IMAP implementation is completely
different from KMail's (Akonadi's) and quite good. I can advise it as a good
program to debug any IMAP related problem. I believe you when you say that you
do not have brackets in the keywords of the problematic mails; it would be
useful for solving this bug in finding out what is causing the trouble for you.
Having a look at the mailbox concerned with Trojita may help in finding out.

Created attachment 102027

A diff of the sources of a mail that is mangled by KMail

Some mime message structures of IMAP messages are mangled by KMail or the IMAP
Akonadi component (please change the component in that case). Namely, border
strings are modified(!) and added, resulting in a message with invalid mime,
which cannot be parsed correctly anymore by KMail.

An example is given in attachment with a diff between the source as returned by
Thunderbird and as returned by KMail.

My guess is that KMail chokes on mime borders that are very similar or that it
cannot distinguish for some reason.

For me it's

korgac[…]: Cannot open "/usr/share/zoneinfo/W. Europe Standard Time"

It may be related to the fact that I am connecting to an Exchange server
through davmail. Perhaps the same issue is encountered using akonadi-ews, see

  https://github.com/KrissN/akonadi-ews/issues/6

Does korgac also use the QTimeZone::windowsIdTo*IanaId methods? If yes, I guess
a Qt bug should be filed. Then this can be closed as RESOLVED UPSTREAM.

> If relevant: The server is an MS Exchange mail server.
Exchange does not support arbitrary IMAP flags, so this does not seem
surprising. Check from another IMAP client (Trojita, Thunderbird,…) whether the
Action flag ($TODO) is actually propagated at all (I doubt it).

It may be the case that upon every refresh the IMAP resource gets info from the
server about the current flags set (none, because it's exchange) and assumes it
was removed remotely and so removes it locally as well.

In principle, the IMAP resource should be aware of the server's CAPABILITIES
and adapt to them as needed. This may mean not offering the ability to set the
$TODO flag or storing them in the Akonadi database only.

However, with Exchange, the best thing is to try out the akonadi-ews resource
under development: https://github.com/KrissN/akonadi-ews (it may also be in
your distribution's packages).

Address list group syntax, as described in RFC 5322
(https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5322#section-3.4) is of the form "group1:
adre...@example.org, ;". It is most often used to
indicate undisclosed recipients, i.e., as "undisclosed-recipients:;".

Current support in kmail is not so good: entering such a group seems not to be
possible and group names are not shown when receiving such a message.

[Akonadi] [Bug 383853] New: IMAP flag changes should not create a new message

2017-08-22 Thread Erik Quaeghebeur
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=383853

Bug ID: 383853
Summary: IMAP flag changes should not create a new message
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 5.5.3
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: IMAP resource
  Assignee: chrig...@fastmail.fm
  Reporter: kdeb...@equaeghe.nospammail.net
CC: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

In the akonadi console, one can set and remove IMAP flags. This works, but it
seems that the following happens:

1. the flag changes are made
2. the message is copied
3. the message is deleted (keeping the copy)

Steps 2 and 3 are, of course, superfluous.

In akonadiconsole, one can see that indeed the UID (remote ID) is stepped up.
(One does not see the marked-as-deleted-but-non-expunged message in
akonadiconsole, which is not good, but that's another issue. Also, the remote
ID field is an editable field, whereas it should not be.)

>From the IMAP-perspective, only (part of) the headers and MIME structure of the
mails need to be fetched first; the MIME payloads can be fetched later, even
as-needed (this is how pure IMAP clients such as Trojita do it). For that the
akonadi database needs to be able to store such partial fetches.

I agree. All features, including ones considered advanced should be
discoverable through the interface. It is much easier to peruse the menu tree
than to go over the shortcut targets or possible toolbar actions.

In any case, I am glad this feature is still there. I had the message
structure open at all times and found it very convenient.

A configuration option or plugin that enables/disables the ‘advanced menu
items’ is fine, as long as that option or plugin is discoverable.

[kontact] [Bug 394708] New: Kontact crashes when trying to delete ghost todo

2018-05-26 Thread Erik Quaeghebeur
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=394708

Bug ID: 394708
Summary: Kontact crashes when trying to delete ghost todo
   Product: kontact
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Keywords: drkonqi
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: k...@equaeghe.nospammail.net
  Target Milestone: ---

Application: kontact (5.7.3)

Qt Version: 5.9.4
Frameworks Version: 5.43.0
Operating System: Linux 4.14.43-gentoo x86_64
Distribution (Platform): Gentoo Packages

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed:

I was trying to delete a todo using the context menu (right mouse button). This
todo was not present on the caldav server, so I suspected it was a ghost only
present in Akonadi.

After restarting, I could delete it without Kontact crashing, so it may be that
the crash was caused by something else.

The crash does not seem to be reproducible.

This bug is about the option to hide the HTML bar, which has existed for a long
time and is used and liked by many (and not by many others). This is not the
place to discuss alternative UI proposals. Please keep on topic.

There is some misunderstanding here. First, *I* suggested you open a new bug.
Second, I suggested that you open a feature request bug for your UI
*modification* suggestions, not for the reinstatement of the existing
configuration option, which is bug 393421. Currently, this is just a duplicate
of that bug. Please read the comments more carefully to avoid duplication of
effort.

Because this feature is currently not much used, as almost no mailers support
it yet, I would think it would be premature to put much effort in interface
elements for this. A boxed dialog such as the one for loading external HTML
content should suffice for now. If ever the feature takes off, there is always
time for adapting the interface.

(Of course I don't assume you'll find the time to implement it, but perhaps it
is something you find worthwhile or fun!)

Example message with two multipart/alternative parts

SUMMARY
KMail does not seem to deal correctly with messages with multiple
multipart/alternative parts. It should treat them equally.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open message with multiple multipart/alternative parts
2. Look at how it is displayed

OBSERVED RESULT
Only the first multipart/alternative part is displayed as such

EXPECTED RESULT
All multipart/alternative parts are displayed as such

RFC 8255 defines multipart/multilingual for mail messages in multiple
languages: https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc8255
It would be nice to have support in kmail. There are two parts to this:
correctly displaying them and being able to create them. Their implementation
can happen separately, with the former being more straightforward (language
choice based on application language trumped by kmail-specific setting).

Me not, but it apears NeoMutt suports it:

> How we will detect which part we must to display ?
Display the one with "Content-Translation-Type: original" by default and
another in case a user setting indicates a preference for the other language.
That user setting can be the application/desktop language or a setting that is
added to kmail/kontact where users can give an ordered list of language
preferences. (I think the RFC also contains some guidelines.)

There remains the question of how to allow a user to select another
translation. That may be out of scope of this bug report as it would best be
compatible with how multipart/alernative display choices are made.

Ok, have you tried setting flags in other mailers on mails in de Exchange
mailbox accessed with IMAP? What happens then? (Put status of this bug to
‘Reported’ once you reply.)

No, I rather think this bug actually should be moved to the kimap product
because it indicates that the IMAP backend does not gracefully deal with
missing server-side functionality. But I'm leaving that call up to the
kmail/kimap developers (if they ever get around to looking at this).

> As already mentioned earlier, this is intentional.
The fact that it is intentional does not address the issue of this bug report,
which is that functionality that users really want has been removed.

My impression is that there is a push in the KMail development team to simplify
the settings. That may be needed, but there are ways to avoid removing
functionality at the same time. Namely, as was done for Bug 387931, the setting
for this can for example be added to the Expert plugin.

>From the commit message I understand that this is a transitional situation (“I
will look at how I can change this feature in the future”). The response to
this bug report has made it clear that during the transitional period it is
preferable to still have this feature.

So please revert or add to the Expert plugin.

(FYI: I personally like and use the HTML bar.)

I understand your reaction. But I have my reasons, which I hope you can
sufficiently agree with:
* This bug report contains a mix of different issues, some fixed, some not.
There is no overview and focus. The most recent ones and most persistent ones
all point to the issue treated with more focus in the newer report.
* The newer report contains links to an actual patch that fixed the issue, but
which was reverted by developers when that patch caused an issue for their
server. That patch is still the best starting point to fix the issue.

> The 47 users from Bug 325224 will they be added to Bug 386985
> automatically?
No, it seems not. Each user will have to do this themselves. It is also an
opportunity to test the current situation and report back at the bug report
this report is now a duplicate of. Please do not comment if you have no
information to add (e.g., reporting that a certain server does or does not
exhibit the issue is useful, but only saying that it is a disgrace the bug
hasn't been fixed yet isn't). Of course, please vote again if you are still
affected by this issue.

[Akonadi] [Bug 402058] New: Proper way to manage autostarted Akonadi resources

Bug ID: 402058
Summary: Proper way to manage autostarted Akonadi resources
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 5.9.2
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: k...@equaeghe.nospammail.net
  Target Milestone: ---

There are a number of autostarted akonadi agents that I do not use (migration
agent, email alert,…). I know that I can disable them by removing 'Autostart'
in the line

X-Akonadi-Capabilities=Unique,Autostart

in these files. However, this does not seem like the proper way to do it. (Will
be lost upon updates.)

There does not seem to be a way to override this properly. Please implement
one. Ideally this is based on being able to choose which resources to Autostart
(taking into account required dependencies), but if necessary by putting a
modified version of the files in a location that has higher precedence.

At least that. I'm at a loss and can't help with further suggestions. The fact
that you used KDE Neon and the ample information you provide should be a good
starting point for a developer. I'm updating the bug properties (severity to
grave, as things just don't work; critical is for data loss, I recall, which
you do not have here, I think).

In case a developer does take on this bug (do not rely on that), would you be
able and willing to provide them with a test account on your server?

> Akonadi/KOrganzier 5.8.3
Hmm, I know that something was fixed between and 5.9.3. But I can understand
that you may not be able to update.

The rest of your description is somewhat similar to my experiences these last
few days. The following approach resulted in the setup working (although I
still fear it may break at any time):

0. remove the problematic resource
1. akonadictl fsck (in a console; see akonadictl help for some info)
2. akonadictl vacuum (in a console; see akonadictl help for some info)
3. re-create the resource

(I split contacts/calendars into two separate resources as well, so that one
doesn't block the other if there is trouble.)

If that does not fix it, there is another thing you can have a look at:

In the DB console of akonadiconsole (queries entered below, execution button on
the right, results above), execute

show create table pimitemtable;

You'll have to copy the result value to a file to be able to view it all. In
case there is something like '-00-00 00:00:00' somewhere, report back.

This sounds like a different issue. Just to check: is the calendar actually

check the KOrganizer bugs to see if one fits or otherwise file a new one.
