KR> VW powerplant question
Hello Group, I am new to KRs and was wondering, to have a high performing KR2 what is the recommended size VW engine and HP rating? Also what would be the minimum and maximum VW HP for the KR2?? Is anyone flying behind a turbocharged VW and happy with the flight performance? Are there many Corvair people in this group that have high performance KRs? Is a 200 mph cruise really attainable? What I can tell you is that you do need to dump the POSA. Many of us use Ellison, AeroCarb, or RevFlow. I like the Ellison and will let others tell you about their preferred carb. The problem with Ellison, is that you can no longer get the EFS-2, which is what you need for that VW. Due to this problem, if I were doing it again, I would find a carb that worked on a 65 HP Continental or Lycoming and go with that. KR> Header Tank Rework
KR cloth will work, but you must use Vinyl Ester resin, if it was made with that originally, and if it wasn't, you might want to replace the tank while you are in there. I just bought a flying KR2 and am in the process of adding some instrumentation. I discovered that the new instruments are about 1 1/2" longer than I have room for, and it appears that moving the panel is not a viable option. I would appreciate some information concerning what type of epoxy to use, what type of fiberglass cloth to use, etc., etc., etc. if it becomes necessary to cut an indentation into the fuel tank. Thanks so much, and Thank You to ALL of you for the wealthy of information I've discovered here! KR> Header Tank Rework
Hi Dave If you fuel tank does not leak now I would not cut into it as getting repairs/modifications on fuel tanks to not leak is a fiddly, time consuming job. I would change the instruments for ones that fit. (And I have 20+ years of fibre glassing experience) Then again I am all over doing time consuming modes to my aircraft. I just want to fly.
