So, Andras, will you take care of these two string-formations in the code
for 3.5, the one reported by Milos and the one by Mihkel? Or do we have
 to
adapt our translations according to what the author of code wanted to
say? Time for 3.5 is running out I guess.

I don't understand why anyone needs to adapt translations for Milos'
 example.

Well, for one, in the case of languages that don't use Title Case for menu
commands, it's not obvious that words for Header and Footer should
start with a lowercase letter there.

We have Delete $1 and Format $1 where $1 can be Header or
Footer. Those are STR_HEADER and STR_FOOTER from
sw/source/ui/docvw/docvw.src and are not used anywhere else, so you
can translate them as you need to fit into the Delete $1 context. I
hope the translation for Header or Footer is not different
depending on if you delete it or if format it.

I wouldn't be so sure. In Estonian, Delete header/footer is Kustuta
päis/jalus, but Format header/footer could be Vorminda päis/jalus or
Vorminda päist/jalust depending on entirety vs. partialness [1]. These
words just so happen to both take only 't' at the end in partitive form, so
Vorminda $1t would work, but there may be languages where the words
change differently.

[1] See e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partitive_case

As for the Insert Rows/Columns modal dialog, it was a good catch that
needs to be fixed. But if it have been good enough for the last couple
of years, then I don't think we need to urgently fix it in 3.5 and
break the string freeze. Let's fix it in master. What do you think?

OK by me.

Happy new year!
Mihkel

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Kyrgyz language support help

2012-01-02 Thread Rimas Kudelis

Hi Abyldek,

I have set up ky-CN language in Pootle, and seeded it with an empty
LibreOffice 3.5.x – UI project. You should be able to start working on
it now. The URL is
https://translations.documentfoundation.org/ky_CN/libo35x_ui/ .

I have made you the administrator for this locale, so if you find more
people wanting to assist you, you will be able to grant them appropriate
rights yourself. You can still ask us to do that, of course.

If you haven't subscribed to the l10n list yet, I advice you to do so.
Announcements about new releases ready for localization are sent to this
list. Also, any questions or concerns that our localisers have are
usually discussed on this list. To subscribe to it, just send an empty
message to l10n+subscr...@global.libreoffice.org and follow the
instructions you will receive shortly afterwards (check your spam folder
if you can't find them). Also, as I mentioned before, please add
yourself as the ky_CN team leader to the table on our wiki page:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Language_Teams (or we can do that, if
you want).

Regards and good luck!

Hello,

I am the translator of Chinese (Taiwan).

Today, Adylbek, a man lived in Xinjiang, China, contacted me to help
 LibreOffice Kyrgyz language support.
He does not speak English well, so I help him to post here.

Kyrgyz language code in ISO 639-1 is ky.
Kyrgyz language has two forms of writing styles now, one is Cyrillic
script, the other is Arabic alphabet.

Kyrgyz people lived in Xinjiang, China uses the traditional writing
 style, Arabic alphabet.
Kyrgyz people lived in Kyrgyz Republic, uses Cyrillic script instead
of Arabic alphabet since 1940 due to general Soviet policy.

So how can we help Kyrgyz people lived in Xinjiang to have their
 localized version of LibreOffice?
I don't know what the appropriate language code for them. Maybe
ky-CN?

If they want to get supported, do they need to provide other
information?

I guess the correct codes would be ky-Cyrl and ky-Arab, but since
LibO
doesn't support BCP47 codes yet, I guess we'll have to use ky-KG and
ky-CN instead...

Perhaps the easiest way to start localizing LibO is to use Pootle
(https://translations.documentfoundation.org/). I (or anyone else
with
admin rights) can bootstrap ky-CN there. Should we do that?

Regarding other information: if Adylbek decides to start localizing
LibO, it would be nice to have him listed in our wiki as language
maintainer for ky-CN:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Language_Teams .

Rimas

No, that would effectively kill productivity. It is better to catch

comittee in the Sun era still resulted crap. See the history of
 http://opengrok.libreoffice.org/history/core/cui/source/dialogs/insrc.src,

No, it is not different.

So, I corrected the translation to the accusative case without the
capital letter. I could have done that also earlier (thanks to KeyId),
but I was not sure if these string were used elsewhere in a different
context (say, in nominative) or not. Now I know :)

 Hi Abyldek,

I have set up ky-CN language in Pootle, and seeded it with an empty
LibreOffice 3.5.x – UI project. You should be able to start working on it
 now. The URL is https://translations.**documentfoundation.org/ky_CN/**
 libo35x_ui/https://translations.documentfoundation.org/ky_CN/libo35x_ui/.

I have made you the administrator for this locale, so if you find more
people wanting to assist you, you will be able to grant them appropriate
rights yourself. You can still ask us to do that, of course.

If you haven't subscribed to the l10n list yet, I advice you to do so.
Announcements about new releases ready for localization are sent to this
list. Also, any questions or concerns that our localisers have are usually
discussed on this list. To subscribe to it, just send an empty message to
 l10n+subscribe@global.**libreoffice.orgl10n%2bsubscr...@global.libreoffice.organd
follow the instructions you will receive shortly afterwards (check your
spam folder if you can't find them). Also, as I mentioned before, please
add yourself as the ky_CN team leader to the table on our wiki page:
 http://wiki.**documentfoundation.org/**Language_Teamshttp://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Language_Teams(or
we can do that, if you want).

 I (or anyone else
with
admin rights) can bootstrap ky-CN there. Should we do that?

Regarding other information: if Adylbek decides to start localizing
LibO, it would be nice to have him listed in our wiki as language
maintainer for ky-CN:

It seems to work here.
By clicking on http://gd.libreoffice.org/faigh-e/deuchainn-lann/
I get the right downloads e.g.
LibO-Dev_3.5.0beta2_Win_x86_install_multi.msi 200 MB.

Maybe a caching problem with your browser?

 Hello all,

 It appears here:
 https://translations.documentfoundation.org/vi/libo35x_ui/sfx2/source/translate.html?unitstates=fuzzy,untranslated

 Hi

I would be interested to read an expert's answer on what is going on here.
Sometimes it seems that the msgstr is pre-filled with a lot of random junk.
 In this case:

 #-#-#-#-#  index.po (PACKAGE VERSION)  #-#-#-#-#\n
 Tùy chọn\n
 #-#-#-#-#  chrdlg.po (PACKAGE VERSION)  #-#-#-#-#\n
 Tùy chọn\n
 etc
 etc

I interpreted this sort of thing as rubbish, deleted it all, and replaced it
with the translation of the word
Options. I compared it with what has been done in the French translation,
and that is what they have done too.

It is not rubbish, it tells the translator in its imperfect way that
the word Options was translated as Tùy chọn in index,po, as Tùy
chọn chrdlg.po etc. Somewhere below there will be a different
translation, this is why the pomigrate2 tool lists all occurrences.
Translator can decide what the correct translation is, and replace the
list with the correct translation.

Best regards,
Andras

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Translate: Knbn

2012-01-02 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Andras,

I use this in my translation system with pomigrate2 the way that if all
existing translations are the same only this one translation is offered as
fuzzy, otherwise different translations from elsewhere are listed like in
this case. I do not remember what switch I used, maybe it is a switch when
generating a pocompendium.

That might be less confusing for translator, at least less verbose and
clear.

Is km_KH any different from km, or is it the same thing? Assuming it's
