Re: [lace] Encaje in Vologda
Hi Mark, Thank you very much. Wonderful lace, even if I understood only a bit of the Spanish commentary Just a warning, this one could be addictive for lace makers who take a look down the side at all the other offerings. You see many more on world-wide lace! If -like me- you are interested in many different types of lace your 25 minutes watching this film could turn into hours watching all the others as well. I restricted my self to 2 others (about 4.5 and 2.5 minutes) and will go back there another time :) Thanks again. Joepie, in dreary, wet East Sussex. Dear lacers, I have searched lots of videos on Encaje(Spanish bobbin lace) and just happened on this very extensive video about the culture of Vologda and its lace and the processes. It is one I haven¹t seen before. Maybe you have or should revisit. It is 25+ minutes long and the pieces are stunning. So if you want to sit back with a cup of tea and enjoy . . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPRFoer6GO4 Had to take a break half way through watching it to let you know about the video ;) -- Mark, aka Tatman website: http://www.tat-man.net blog: http://tat-man.net/blog Magic Thread Shop: http://www.tat-man.net/tatterville/tatshop/tatshop.html email: tat...@tat-man.net Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/tatmantats - - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. [lace] I have Kitty Fisher...thanks
Well, not the whole book (!) but a great start. My thanks to the member who started the ball rolling. Actually the person sent me 4 versions of KF... it must be in all her states of inebriation and indeed her stage performance too. From Brian and Jean Cooranbong. Re: [lace] Lace bobbins and types + wonderful book about lacers and lace apparatus in Haute Loire
Le 15/12/10 13:25, Brian Lemin a écrit : a genre of bobbins that are sort of thinnish in my group , when we must use a lot of bobbins filled with thin threads we tend to use thinner bobbins .. for example, middland bobbins without the spangles .. further more some Le puy carreaux could be very small and the bobbins made accordingly . I have a kid's one with very small bobbins . should take pictures ... I know ... dominique ps . I came across a wonderful book with lots of photos or lacers' lights and tables used in Haute Loire . * *Georges Dubouchet: les fees aux doigts magiques*. *au Pays de la Reine des Montagnes* .publications du musée de st Didier en Velay (haute Loire) this private museum was closed in July and the collection sold to someone who should set it up in a new museum in Seine et Marne , near Paris. you can order or get information from : Genevieve de Fraissinette Chazel 43140 Saint Didier en Velay tel: 04 77 35 62 10 http://www.leveil.fr/infos-du-jour/Saint-Didier-en-Velay-3542 Mme de fraissinette is the grey haired lady sitting at the table . the book was issued in June 2010 and cost 65 EUR + postage (10EUR60 for France) . of course it's in French but it's got so many interesting photos I thought it might be of interest to you I won't scan nor photocopy the photos because the money raised is used by M. [lace] Spangles
Dear Arachnids The early spangles were not always large. Some of my small, early bobbins have just 7 x 2mm beads. However, I expect there are few bobbins with their original spangles as they do not seem to last as long as the bobbins. Again, as laready pointed out, bobbins are the tools of our trade and the weight for thread thickness is important for tension. I have respangled many bobbins according to the thread I am using and I also try to keep old beads for the old bobbins.
