[lace] Re-use of old lace
It's well known that lace, being expensive, was re-used. Here is an example of a lace edging that was remade. http://www.ebay.com/itm/AN1-Vtg-HM-Ital-Milanese-Bobbin-Lace-Antimacassars-3-Pc-/250870080370?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0hash=item3a6905a372 This style of chair cover was popular in the early 20th century. An edging was carefully rearranged for this use. You can see the motifs of the edging in the two small pieces, and around 3 sides of the big piece. However, in the middle of the big piece a different pattern of lace was used to fill in. The person who did this, did a nice job of it. One could almost make up a story for the history of this piece. Mom's or Grandma's lace, out of fashion, remodeled to the newest fashion of parlor accessory so it can be enjoyed for another generation. And possibly done during the Depression when money was scarce. At the other end of the lace sales is an interesting Milanese table runner with a buy-me price of $1100.00 US. A bit pricey but has some figures worked in the lace that catch the attention. It's nice eye candy. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ANTIQUE-FIGURAL-MILANESE-BOBBIN-LACE-TABLECLOTH-RUNNER-/300585807009?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0hash=item45fc4f6ca1 Alice in Oregon - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. [lace] Love and spelling
Dear Spiders —— Have you seen the beautiful new green little disk 2011 IOLI Charter Chapter Pattern CD? If not, then quick quick! I had only one little tiny complaint: note the correct spelling for Ortolan. As ortolan means nightingale, we can see how important it is to get it right. [lace] ebay lace
Alice I think the first photo you showed us is a revival era Milanese. The detail shots are really quite good. The shapes of the individual motifs is what makes me question the age. Also the way the tapes are divided by rows of twists and each segment has a little hole in it--that would have been done differently in really old Milanese. I'm not sure about the age of the figural piece. It may be old. Lorelei H - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Re: [lace] Call-out to all Arachnids in the path of Irene .... are you OK???
Those of us in Raleigh had some wind and rain. I know that parts of the area were without power for as long as a day. The people behind us had a tree fall and crush their car. Fortunately no one was hurt. Liz Redford Raleigh, NC, USA Clay Blackwell clayblackw...@comcast.net wrote: Just hoping to get good news from everyone in the path of Irene. [lace] Princess Pillow
Helen said - I reckon that's the type of pillow I saw in an antique shop one year way back when... Yes, Helen, I remember that trip. We went to Malden for the afternoon, -a little town full of antique shops, - and I remember the pillow in a window - $400+ even then (and it must be well over 20 years ago.) A tangle of bobbins too. It looked very sad!! Regards from Liz in Melbourne, Oz. lizl...@bigpond.com - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here.
