I haven't tried This link because I've just woken up and am still in bed. All
it should take is simply clicking on the link which will be highlighted in
blue. Having said that, sometimes the links do take me nowhere. One case was
yesterday's link to a film on French lace.
For the benefit of those who were discussing trimming posts last week,
yesterday Avital helped me find out how to do so on my BlackBerry Torch. Yippee!

[lace] Arthritic hands and Picking Up Bobbins

2012-06-02 Thread Elizabeth Ligeti
Hi, Laurie S. I found that very interesting that green tinted glasses help
your tremor. I must try that! I have a shocking hand tremor when I go to
write - some days I can hardly sign my name, - but I can use a fine needle
without a problem for Needlelace, and I don't have too much trouble with
bobbin lace. I just use photocopies of prickings covered in coloured
contact, so prick as I go - the lazy way!! Not always 100% accurate,
though!, -- but at least I can still make reasonable lace!!

I have heard of coloured glasses for dyslexia, but not for a hand tremor.
Fascinating.

Hi Arachnids,

To get the WHOLE STRING (3 lines) in easily; Just mark it by rolling your
mouse over it holding gown the left button. Then while the cursor is on
the -now marked blue section- left click. Click copy on the list that
appears. Next paste the whole string into the address line on the net and
hit return. That should get you there without too much trouble.

that the URL was split over three lines and only the top line was blue - that

[lace] Altar cloths/Ecclesiastical lace

2012-06-02 Thread Lyn Bailey
What a wonderful altar cloth. Does anyone know where she would have gotten
the inspiration for all those little squares? Surely the same could be done
more modestly for our local churches. It appears that this cloth is destined
for Lourdes from the details at the side. And I saw it as picture 201, but it
seems to be the last picture of the group.

I am about to embark on a double whammy sort of project. The lace supply shop
in Vadstena, Sweden, which has an online website,

http://www.svenskaspetsar.se/sv/category/89/altarspets

has a whole selection of ecclesiastical lace. I bought the pricking in 2004,
and now I think it is much easier than I thought it then. DH is retiring, so
now we are going to go to my church, Episcopalian, (Anglican for you Brits)
and I am planning to make an altar cloth using that pattern. Episcopalians
are very fond of their coffee hour after church, and I shall be making it
there, so they can see it being done, which I think will make it much more
meaningful for them, since this is Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where there are
few, not none, but few lacemakers, and most people think it is tatting (no
offense to tatters) and virtually no one has seen lace being made. I have two
sizes of pricking, and will be calculating how much lace I need. Hopefully
this will inspire other people to learn to make lace, and maybe we can meet in
the church, without paying $70 and hour for the privilege, which is the price
quoted to me. Hence my quest for meeting rooms a while back.

Anyone know where to get the appropriate linen for the part that sits on the
altar itself?

I have the one book on Lace for churches, or something like that, now out of
print, I believe. Anyone know of any other resources for church lace? Any
online pattern resources?

I do not know how to make the little short url. This is Lorelei’s website.
Tried to take out the blue, to no avail. Paint the whole thing, however many
lines, in blue, by putting the cursor to the very left, or extreme right at
the bottom, click and move the cursor to cover all the required url, so that
it is all blue. You can now take your hand/finger off the cursor. Press down
on the control and ‘C’ keys at the same time. Then go to a new window,
and put your cursor where the url should be. Then click on the control and
‘V’ keys at the same time, and there it is. Click on the now complete
url, and you should see the amazing altar cloth. It takes longer to read than
to do. Works every time for me.

https://plus.google.com/photos/112893045695607884541/albums/53631781412340200
33/5747508343146431426?banner=pwa

I have consciously put this all in plain text, but there are still 5
apostrophes after careful editing. If you do not like what you see instead of
an apostrophe, then do not read it.

Lyn in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA, where we’re in for a lovely, cool day.

[lace] Altar Cloth Lace

2012-06-02 Thread Robin D
Hello all,

The altar cloth made up of all those squares was discussed on a blog I
follow. The various squares were made my various people. The cloth is on
display at the *Museum of Christianity in Ljubljana.*
Herehttp://iltombolodietta.blogspot.com/is the link to the blog I
follow - it's in Italian and can be translated
using a button on the right hand side of the blog.

I am in the middle of creating an all lace altar cloth for a local temple.
The temples of my church have many altars in them (some for prayer and some
for weddings and sealings as we call them) and all altar cloths are to be
completely lace. 99% are crochet, but I'm tatting one and I've seen a few
other tatted cloths.

For the curious
HEREhttp://www.moroni10.com/LDS/Temple_Tour/Manti_Temple_Sealing_Room.jpg
Is a picture of the sealing room where my parents were married and you
can see the lace altar cloth. the altars are all basically a variation on
this theme.

Happy lace making,
Robin

[lace] Italian Needlework tiny urls

2012-06-02 Thread hottleco
Hello Again! For Lyn, http://italian-needlework.blogspot.com. Regarding the
tiny urls, many thanks for posting them. Despite the very helpful copy/paste
tutorial, I still can't seem to make this function work on my laptop. It's
probably operator error yet again, but nothing happens after selecting/clicking
Copy from the list that appears. No new box, no new screen, nothing. It is
very kind of Lorelei others to post links but they are out of reach for me
any other technologically challenged Arachnids without the tiny treatment.
Sure, I'm missing out on some stuff--it's not anyone's job to spoon feed--but I
do appreciate when the tinys are posted. The altar cloth is lovely
certainly a nice follow-up to the recent medallion project on
www.needlenthread.com (Mary Corbet's site). Check out her final post (several
days ago) where the cinquefoil medallion is appliqued on the chasuble--the
fabric is divine! Damask with a crown etc. On the Italian Needlework blog!
site there is an older article on goldwork with some ecclesiastical
embroidery, one of which is trimmed in gold lace. Have fun. Sincerely, Susan

Re: [lace] lace photos - Carrots?

2012-06-02 Thread Vicki Bradford
Hello everyone,

The photo sent by Lorelei is one among many in an album which has some
other interesting photos. I paged backward and looked at some of the
others, one of which is very strange. It is in the album twice, as
number 45 and also as number 126. The 'bobbins' look like carrots (!!)
to me. The photo isn't terribly clear, especially when enlarged to try
to see for sure. What does anyone else think??

Vicki in Maryland where we also had tornado warnings last evening, but
today was picture postcard perfect!

RE: [lace] 2012 Bookmark Exchange

2012-06-02 Thread Jenny Brandis
Hello to all the bookmark exchange folks, We have done a great job on all
the bookmarks and I am in the process today of getting the website ready. If
you have not sent through the scans of the bookmark you have sent, please
ask your exchange partner if they could do so and email it through to me -
je...@brandis.com.au so that your work can be included.

It would be great if you could write a few words about your bookmark - where
you got the pattern, what thread, how many bobbins, any special meanings or
notes. It is often these notes that I find so inspiring.

Back to Photoshop and Dreamweaver now.
