[lace] Lace8

2012-07-01 Thread Angela
Hi All

Lace8 is great - if you  haven't upgraded and have a computer that is
compatibly buy it now if only for the new print preveiw option.  There are
lots of other new features, some of which I like and some not so much but the
print preview is wonderful.  Gone are the days when you have to guess what
size the pattern will come out, you can see it on the page and just know
whether it's right or wrong.

Anyone else upgraded, if so can you let us know
which features you like best.

I have upgraded too. I also love the print preview and the fact you can put a
picture on the design page and of course the fact you can save as a JPG file.

Re: [lace] Lace8

2012-07-01 Thread Sue Babbs
I also like the print preview, having multiple designs open at once,
grouping items, bold lines on girds and drawing twists but I miss the
preview file on opening; the zoom and centre button; all layers on / all
layers off choice; and find it long-winded to do various other things which
were faster in R-XP.

It also has some irritating hiccups - if you try to change a layer it asks
you twice over, and if you try to download a background on a locked layer it
ties the mouse to the design area of the screen and you can't even close the
programme. Beware of that one!!

I would recommend you try the demo version before deciding to buy.

Has the re-do button been re-instated? I understand this was in the first
version but is missing from R-XP.

Annoying when you have drawn in a long trail and the lose the rhythm and go
wrong. Hit undo instead of item select, delete. Those of you that use the
programme will know that undo deletes the whole trail, whereas with item
select, delete you can undo just the one wrong line. I have nearly cured
myself but

Hi Susan and fellow Arachnids,

I use a vacuum cleaner drive belt from an electrical goods shop. There is
also a drive belt in some videos that fits. So a radio/TV repair shop might
be able to help you. Take your winder to your friendly repair shop(s) to
try. Mine was fascinated and quite willing to spend the time to get the
right size that worked.

Happy lace making

[lace] The Hollow Crown

Guys,

Have any of you watched the new Shakespear trillogy opening play;
Richard II.

Yes I know it's machine lace but the gold lace in Ben Wishaws

but I kept tuning out to look at the pattern.

I've googled but can't find a

No, that has been possible - back to .lc5 files anyway. I couldn't track
down my .lc1 files to try out. They now get saved as .lc8, so you will need
Lace8 to open any of the files saved as .lc8. You can't share them with R-XP
users for instance

[lace] Lace8

2012-07-01 Thread Jean Nathan
One thing I've had a problem with is selecting items in designs which were
done in R-XP. If I want to delete a dot, I can't do it by right clicking and
I can't mark it with select item. I have to use Group select and then it
will mark it. Same thing happens with other items from a Lace R-XP designs.

What I like about it:

the sliding zoom
quicker way of changing widths and colours of elements
rose ground element looking much better than the previous one
being able to save as JPEGs and PDFs - I found EPS files were extremely
large

easier to set the offset from top and left margins for printing
easier to temporarily remove the toolbar to see more of the design
being able to have more than one design open and copy and paste between them
the general look of the page

Re: [lace] Wrinkle-free

2012-07-01 Thread Dmt11home
The rich are different from you and me.

Far be it from me to impune the coolness of the queen, fashionwise or body
temperaturewise, but the kinds of clothing that people like her wear are
very different.

I once went to an exhibit of Jackie Kennedy's clothing. There was a wrap
skirt. I recall wrap skirts which I wore, and they inevitably were blown
by a gust of wind and left you totally exposed to your waist in public.
So, I was interested to see that Jackie's wrap skirt, which never behaved
that way, was actually draped around an armature of stiff crinoline such as
milliners use. It was pretty much an artifice on a very firm inner
structure. There is no way it could ever open. It must have cost thousands to
make,
not the $50 I paid for my wrap skirt. I think that couturiers may know a
few things about how to make a garment that doesn't wrinkle, ie,
interfacing, linings, etc.

RE: [lace] Lace8

2012-07-01 Thread Ruth Budge
Jean, as you might imagine, that was one of the first things I tested.
And I've just opened a couple of RXP files to try again, both of which work
OK for me. I use the Item Select button all the time and don't have any
trouble with selecting a particular dot with the Item Select button. I'm
wondering if you'd email me (privately, of course) a file which is causing
you this problem so that I can have a look at it and see if I can work out
why you're having difficulties.

Yes, I miss the right-click to delete a dot. However, the right-click is
now taken up with editing functions to save playing hunt the button on
toolbars all around the screen. It wasn't possible to do both, although
you can select a dot (or a line or whatever) and then right-click on the
screen, then left-click on Delete.

Someone mentioned the missing File Preview - the old system was only
possible because of the way RXP saved all files inside the RXP folder -
which is not a particularly popular place to save files with lots of people.
The new programme has a different filing system, and all patterns are now
saved in a special folder created on installation within the My Documents
folder. We haven't had much success yet at making a file preview system
compatible with the new filing system. Windows 7 offers the preview, but
only for programmes the Windows programmers know about - and Lace8 is not on
their list.
