Re: [lace] Fish pattern
Hi Alex, I think other arachneans would appreciate a link to your web-site: http://alexstillwell.wordpress.com/ so that they can see it quickly without searching for it first. But when I looked for the fish pattern there is only 1 page I can't see a fish at all. I hope that you can fix the problem soon. [lace] fish
Hi Arachnids I understand some have not seen the picture of the fish. There were two pdfs separated by a comma and you could look at both. However, I have had a lot of interesting feedback already and decided to put all the pages of my booklet on the childrensâ section of my website which is : http://alexstillwell.wordpress.com Have fun with fish. Re: [lace] Prince George's christening
Thanks Bev. Â I am very surprised that there is machine made lace on this piece of heirloom clothing. It seems the Royal Family has really lowered their standards. Â A lot of the lacemakers I know have purposely gone to the major effort of making lace for the christening robe of their grandchildren. Â Too bad if the Royal Family can't patronise a national treasure and do the same. Re: [lace] Makit lace
I have just tried using both of their online forms and their email address to request a catalog. The online forms said the message did not go through, and Mailer Demon told me that the email also did not go through. I hope somebody who is local to them can get word to them that something is wrong with their website and email. Bronwen, who thinks it is way too late to be up -- 2am in the morning. Time for bed. [lace] Interwoven Globe exhibit - lace?
Hello, all - I received my catalogue to the new Met exhibit in the mall yesterday and boy am I impressed! I have barely paged through it - it will require some time - but I am wondering whether Devon or anyone who has been able to get to the exhibit could answer a question: In my paging through the catalogue part of the book, #80 is a bobbin lace piece, 27 in x 33.5 in, owned by the Met. It is even featured as one of the twelve images on the paper that was on the back cover (single paper, not actually the back cover, as discovered when I undid the shrink-wrap). However, it is not on the website as being a part of the exhibit (all the exhibit's objects are apparently there). When I searched the collections by the number, it did indeed pop up, but is listed as not currently on display. Devon's post here from her quick walk through stated that there was no lace. How then is this in the book? Or is it on display and the website needs updating and Devon's walk through was so overwhelming that she somehow missed it? It will be some time until I get to see the exhibit and I am just wondering about this lace piece and whether it is there. Plenty of other beautiful and dazzling pieces though! thanks, arlene in NJ in the US - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. [lace] Interwoven Globe-Symposium Oct. 4
There will be an all day symposium about Interwoven Globe on Friday, Oct. 4. http://www.metmuseum.org/events/programs/lectures-and-panels/symposia/interw oven-globe It is free and looks to be quite interesting. I am going. In regards to Arlene's question about entry number 80 in the catalogue. I did not see this piece at the exhibit, although I know it and love it. I actually did return to do a more leisurely examination of the exhibit, spending 3 1/2 hours there during which time I listened to every audio entry and read every label- they are different. I even watched the film on the making of Chintz. This was at least partially so that I could be an accurate reporter to the lace community. I think that the website is correct in its assertion that the piece is not on view. I don't think there is any way I could have missed it. Also my husband and daughter were there with me, all of us viewing at a different pace, and they would certainly have drawn my attention to it if they had seen it. However, the exhibit is extremely exciting and I found the discussions of the international trade in textiles opened up many questions for me as to what bearing this trade had on the lace trade. Re: [lace] American Arachnids, How will you spend October 1?
The House voted along party lines to delay the Affordable Health Care Act by a year (ie, Republicans have the majority, so it passed). Senate majority leader has already stated that he will strip the funding bill of ALL amendments and let it go through that way. Freakin' politics. They are playing with people's LIVES - I personally know too many people who would be extremely negatively affected should the government be shut down on Oct 1. Heck, as my husband is a contractor on a US Military Base, WE could have been extremely negatively effective, but his job is mission critical, so they can't stop paying him. Ob Lace: On October 1, I will most likely be taking my mother in law to different furniture shops, and may be able to do some needle lace while she's looking around. Depends on how much she wants to be pushed around in her wheelchair, or if the salespeople bring things to her to see. Bronwen, in sunny Colorado Springs, where there are at least 4 military bases... [lace] Reminder: No Politics on Arachne
Dear Gentle Spiders, A reminder to have lace content, and not politics in Arachne memos, or we will be flooded with politics from 1,000 plus lacemakers around the world! Devon's memo was a satire piece provided to give some humor to the U.S. Lace Demonstration Day activity. She is particularly good at this sort of thing and weaving lace into her comments, but the rest of us would do well to avoid politics on Arachne or we'll get a big scold from our lovely Moderator. Ha ha! I wasn't anticipating it being that bad, but perhaps I should rethink any plans to be out and about on that day! I guess it could shut down the Internet if people sign up online. Re: [lace] V A - Clothworkers' Centre for Study Conservation of Textiles Fashions
I am very excited to read through and look at all the lace and textiles included. So very glad the cooler weather has arrived in Pennsylvania but now of course the high school football games have begun. So almost every Friday we get to attend one as youngest is in the band. Not very easy to work on lace in football stands. Will have to move my lace day to another day as I work on some bookmarks. -- Smile! Shell Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. [lace] Wire Lace with Kim Davis
Hello All! I've just returned from a weekend of wire lace with Kim at PLG (Pittsburgh Lace Group) can safely say that a good time was had by all!! As a beginner, I started with a Le Pompe plaited piece--a lace that I would NOT have selected to make in thread. But OMG--in wire--it speaks!! Trudy (Lacy Susan) was our vendor she had ordered some very colorful 32 gauge wire from the UK. Yowza--lime green, hot pink, seafoam, smoke many more stunning colors. Kim provided additional beginner patterns for us to try at home with bobbins on loan--a very generous policy on her part. Usual disclaimers--just a very satisfied student customer. It was certainly an eye-opening experience that other lacemakers might enjoy if given the opportunity. Well worth putting it on your bucket list! [lace] Oct 1st Lace Day
Hello Again! Tuesday is EGA (Embroiderers' Guild) Day for me so I was planning to wear some lace. However, in honor of the wire lace I made over the weekend, I'm planning to WOW the embroiderers with my Le Pompe piece! There are plenty of beginner mistakes to be sure, but the overall effect is stunning. The lace is so fresh, modern approachable. Very catchy, like a tune you can't get out of your head. Makes me wonder if a new/different audience could be attracted to lace thru this technique?!? Or would the couturier industry take an interest--passementerie with a twist/cross? ;-) Obviously my wire lace has upped the ante for Tues.!
