[lace] 2014 card exchange website

2014-12-06 Thread Jenny Brandis
Hi there

The 2014 card exchange website is in the process of being prepared but there
are 20 members who have not yet sent through their scan/photos to be added.
Could you try to get them to me as soon as possible?

Regards

Hi, Robin.
I'd love to see photos of your snowflakes and the TARDIS and the weeping
Christmas angel. I don't even know what a TARDIS is! Maybe you could post
them on Flickr.

[lace] Tardis

2014-12-06 Thread Jean Nathan
Tardis stands for Time and Relative Dimension in Space. From the outside it
looks like an old fashioned British Police Box - a shelter in which foot
patrol police officer could shelter and from which members of the public could
phone the police directly, long before the advent of the mobile phone. The
Tardis is used by Dr Who (just known as The Doctor), a famous science fiction
programme on TV which started in 1963 and is still going strong today, aimed
just about anyone aged from 5 to 500. The Tardis used for travelling through
time and space, and it's very much bigger on the inside than on the outside.

If you want to refer to somewhere in which you can fit more than you think you
could, we often say it's like the Tardis. Think you'd have trouble finding
anone in the UK who doesn't know who the Doctor is and what the Tardis is.

All the information is on

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TARDIS

including photos. I find the programme quite scary, but them I'm a wimp.

A lot of the Doctor's adversaries would make good subjects for lace.

[lace] Holiday Exchange

2014-12-06 Thread hottleco
Season's Greetings to All! What a lovely surprise to receive Sallie O's lace
card in the mail today! She created a white bell with gold gimp in a gold
bangle; it's a Springett pattern. The metallic gimp ends are cleverly
concealed in gold beads representing the bell clapper. Note to self--another
invisible finishing method! The bangle was enclosed in a card she made--die
cut motifs on the outside a special Christmas sentiment by Lucinda Franks on
the inside. It's hanging in my So. Fla. studio (bedroom #3) because we have no
tree. Thank you Sallie!! This was a fun experience I'm so glad I joined the
exchange this year. I'm looking forward to the full display on Jenny's site as
it sounds like there is quite a variety of holiday ornaments this season.
Getting into the holiday spirit when it's 82* the palm trees are swaying
requires some imagination so I'm glad to start celebrating now that I have
Sallie's bell. Sincerely, Susan Hottle, Palm Beach Gardens, FL !

[lace] Another Holiday Exchange Thank You

2014-12-06 Thread hottleco
Hello All! Earlier this fall, I was searching for a way to share the little
lace pattern that I used for my exchange piece so I asked Arachne. Kim Davis
graciously sorted out the copyright issues obtained permission from both
Marji Suhm the Lace Museum to share the Scania Lace ljusgull (shining gold)
pattern for the purpose of the Arachne Holiday Exchange. The pattern appears
in Skansk Knyppling, The Freehand Lace of Southeast Sweden prepared by Marji
Suhm for the Lace Museum, Sept. 2003. I've been fascinated by this lace
jumped at the chance to own the booklet when I saw it in Sacramento. For this
lace, the devil is definitely in the details! There's a bit of a learning
curve when tensioning with edge pins alone. Thanks to Kim, Ms. Suhm the Lace
Museum, all Arachneans will be able to give it a try. Sincerely, Susan Hottle,
Palm Beach Gardens, FL USA

[lace] Heather Billington - Point Ground Lace book

2014-12-06 Thread Alex Stillwell
Re: Date: Fri, 5 Dec 2014 08:14:50 -0600
From: Sue Babbs suebabbs...@gmail.com
Subject: [lace] Heather Billington - Point Ground Lace book

As there are so few lace books being accepted by publishers now that many of
us are resorting to self-publishing, with the attendant problems highlighted
in Sue Babbs email. I have found the best form of advertising is to offer my
books to lace societies for review in their magazines. Following on from that,
it would be useful if the societies receiving these copies would each keep a
list of the books they review together with details for contacting and
ordering from self-publishers. If this happens the lace world will soon become
aware of these lists and it will become much easier to be able to trace and
order a particular title. If you wish have new books written you need to
support the authors, and making it easier to source the books will be a great
help.

Best wishes to all who are designing lace and writing books and those who are
buying them

Alex

[lace] New Book on Embroidered Lace

2014-12-06 Thread Anna Binnie
I have just come home from the last Lace Day for NSW Lacemakers and
apart from being able to relax since I'm no longer President of the
Branch, I had a wonderful surprize which I simply must share.

Margaret Stephens one of our best needle lace teachers has just produced
a book on Embroidered Lace, specifically Reticella. It is simply lovely
with full working instructions, can't wait to start working the samples.
And they are in colour not all boring white. How very exciting
and both modern and traditional.

The book is called 'Embroidered Lace' and if this is your thing please
contact Margaret on

mar...@stephensonline.com.au

Oh the book costs $30 Australian.

I like this variation:

I don't celebrate Christmas but I've knitted a lot of weeping angels for friends
