[lace] a little help from arachnes
Hi, lacemakers Could someone help me? I'm starting a search and I need to buy color thread for needle lace (I've used mercer croche artistique no. 40 or 60 at my country). I need solid colors very vivid and varied. I'm going for 10 days to New York at the end of May and I plan try to buy these threads in the USA because at my country they dont make them any more with much colors. Could someone appoint a good store at NY ? I would like to make the purchase personally because I still do not know what kind of thread I have to buy and so I have to choose the colors I need. I will be near 56th with 8th street but I see no problem if I have to go far from this area. If you could also appoint me some thread mark so I can start my search at the store, I'll be grateful.. Thanks for all arachnes. [lace] Olympic tribute to lace
Joepie and Arachnids At Opening Ceremony there was a performance of weaving with lit-up strands. And now, at Closing Ceremony, this Lace Dance and the big green tree. Here we felt Olympic Ceremonies like a Tribute to Brazilian Popular Art and Handcraft but I personally liked Tribute to Textiles Arts and Lace. If you want to see a little more about this Lace at Closing Ceremony here is a address to a instagram video : https://www.instagram.com/p/BJZUG6oBQ_zmUDLV4HwP4Yp72p2S_zUwAQD_HA0/?taken-b y=soniaquintelladecarvalho But if you want to know something about Brasil Bobbin Lace at my site I made a post several months ago of a beautifull and rare journalistic work dedicated to the theme. My sites are to to promote Teneriffe Lace but I talk about Brazilian Lace and Handcraft and also Latin Needlelace. Just to contributed with the theme we have few news and people know very little. Try to see the film in despite of the language. But you can ask me what you want. I really know what is having difficult with a foreign language, but we have to be more than we are to make things together. In lace friendship. Ssomething I learn here with Jeri Ames. Go to http://rendatenerife.blogspot.com.br/2016/03/fios-de-tradicao-rendas-de-bilr o.htmland at the last paragraph make a clic at "AQUI" (HERE). Enjoy it! [lace] (lace) Tenerife
I know the question was at 30 June but I was not with my desktop and no one could helpme with Arachne address and I want to share my view about Teneriffe. T tried to reply by Devon email but it not appear, so. I want to say that there are researchers that use for Teneriffe Lace a special category. Embroidered lace (encaje bordado):.when we make the pattern of lace with a needle in a basis or warp. We can use a net, like filet, or a radial warp, like for for nanduti, soles de maracaibo, tenerife lace, rosetas canarias ... Carolina used the expression " lace craft". I was searching such kind of expression. Since few years I have contact with Teneriffe Lace and I think that it becomes just this : a needlelace craft. At the olds XIX and begin of XX century it was not, but the time goes and forgetfullness happened and Teneriffe Lace becomes a handcraft or a needlelace craft. And is like a lace craft ( good, beautifull and so on ... or not) that people works this technique textile nowadays. Teneriffe Lace I make is like it was early XX century, therefore draws attention. Thanks, Carolina also for the "rule" or comprehension that to be lace a minimum of 50% of threads have to be drawn out. [lace] Survey, and Convention
Liz It was a wonderfull surprise have you at my table at Arachne lunch. It's sad we have not the same language and my English - yet - is only the minimum. But last year it was worst! And next year it will be better and if I found you at my table we will talk more. It was so nice meet people we know only the names. We feel we are all friends since many years... Thanks for the Sol Laces. It is a "new" very old way of teneriffe lace. People forgot it. Till 2017. [lace] Arachne is a Vital resource
Jeri You are so right. We have to make Arachne a Vital resource. And I have to said thank for sharing your enormous knowledge. Anna is right too. But Arachne is so important for us. I think much people read Arachne but only few write and do a feedback. All the time I read and learned a lot with Arachne. I have problems with language, I have problems because I don't make bobbin lace, my experience with lace is little and all the time I ask me if somebody is interested in the lace I make and so on...but infact I have to forget all of this and go ahead. Antje, if Spanish lacemakers are few, I think that from South America we are less. Perhaps only me(?). I'll go to IOLI 2016, I received class confirmation for my first choice. I went to 2015 Convention and I loved the meeting, classes and the lacemakers. I am looking forward to meet Dawn from Australia, Annelore Stone from Washington, Laura Sandison, Laurie Mastern, Karen Bovard, Barbara Bulgarelli, Sally Olsen and others that were so nice but I have not the name (yet). I'm thinking to bring lace I make this year. And I hope this year my English will be better. I've been in IOLI 2015 in IOWA and Im also satisfied. The sweet and firm conduct of work me delighted. I was surprised with the ability of members of IOLI and interest of lace-making in learning. The sensitivity of the Organization to present me a roommate site increased the possibility of a foreigner who is unaware of the costumes of the event enjoy everything. I want to thank once more Laurie Mastern, my roommate and Angel host, in addition to all the other people involved in the organization and lace-makers who have shared interests.
