I am currently working on a piece from one of her many books. Her contribution to Bedfordshire Lace must be important. [lace] Holly Leaves and DMC books
I have done the 6 holly leaves, and for the throwing out used alteernate threads in the middle of the half stitch and then crossed the left over pairs, which successfully covered any gaps.   I worked the leaves in a very fine wite bought 3 years ago at Cranmore Halls, Solihull, and they hold their shape without any stiffening. I have a DMC book which was my Grandmothers, passed down via my mother, thanks to Arachne I now know it ws published in 928 - September 1928 and says 1,120,000 copies printed in English, French, Spanish, Italian and German. I sent for Kant 2003 (lace magazine with translations in 3 languages which are very helpful), and in issue 2 saw the Swans and wanted to try it out.I found it challenging!I hoped to work the snowflakes mat I saw on another Arachne page, but that looks like a round-to-it. [lace] Items finished in one session
I am sure the one session pincushion went down well.  So many people, particularly children want to "take it home" and when this is at a lace demonstration its quite difficult when "mum" wants to visit the next stall and the kids want to stay and finish a snake.  Does anyone know of a book of tiny pieces for beginners that can be finished in an hour?  I have tried small snakes if the bobbins are wound ready but would be grateful for any other ideas. [lace] Lace Equipment and subscriptions
I have a new cat who pulls pins out from my lace if I leave it for even a few minutes so I have resorted to a metal Food cover to go over the exposed lace and pin cushion. Has anyone else resorted to this? Subscriptions to most Clubs can be done by Standing Order if you just ask for their bank details, and it saves the worry of whether you remember to pay annually, and you can cancel it yourself quite easily if you want to leave the club. [lace] Golden Hands and the German Book
I collected all the first issue of Golden Hands in the 1970's when I had just started making Bobbin Lace.  I still have them, and refer to them from time to time.  They printed an index part way through but to get the full index one had to purchase the next publication, and I had no money/incentive to carry on, as I had more than enough ideas from the 106 copies. Incidentally I think the "pig" in the German Lace book is actually a dog - its tail is wrong for a pig. [lace] Lace Scarves
I am currently working on a Scarf from a 1999 copy of the Lace Magazine, its designed by Brenda Paternoster, based on logarithmic lace.I am using a ball of crochet thread from Lidl with a sparkle in it and a green crochet thread probably from the same shop. I am finding that the bobbins on the right in the sparkle thread wind themselves tighter while those on the left unwind, and conversely, so I am now winding different ways depending on which thread and which side of the lace I am working. I have plenty of time to do lace now I am retired with a grown up family, to the lady with the little children enjoy them now and fit in a bit of lace now and then just for sanity's sake.
