Recently I won the American lace stamps in a raffle and sussenly realised that I have the stamp of Emily Hobhouse to offer to Arachnids. The stamp is in the list of lace stamps on Lacefairy's site. If more people ask than stamps, I will raffle the stamps. Please send your names to my mailbox. I will mail anywhere in the world. Jeanette Fischer, Western Cape, South Africa. Dear Jeanette, Don't you dare to be hesitant to write in English! We love your postings. I speak with a strong Southern mountain accent (I call it hillbilly) and that doesn't keep me from speaking... It is nice of you to offer the stamps; I *do not* want one because I am not a collector and it will be hard enough for Friend Husband to clear out when I've gone to Happy Lacemaking Land. I have a large collection of lace stamps too. I have made lists with scanned pictures and this is what I have so far: Stamps with lace and lace makers (I don't collect stamps with people wearing lace): more than 200, only very few missing as far as I know. Stamps with embroidery are not included. FDCs, maximum cards, sheets etc: about 200, but I know there are more that I haven't got yet. Postmarks and envelopes with lace and lace makers: about 90, but I'm sure there are more. Re: [lace] lace stamps
Hello Tess, hello Lori, hello Ralph, As far as I see on Loris page are nearly all stamps of this matter. I don't have them all but I have a big list where they all are on. I can scan you this list if you want. Perhaps on the matter people wearing laces are a few missing but this is again ein weites Feld, so you couldn't find them all I think. You can see these United States stamps at: http://lace.lacefairy.com/LaceStamps/LaceStamps.htm Lori, I notice you've described one of the 2 British stamps as British Explorer. That's not just any British Explorer, that's Sir Walter Raleigh! I hope he wasn't wearing that nice lace ruff when his head was cut off... I always understood that it was infringement of copyright to reproduce images of British stamps without permission of the Royal Mail. Don't know about other countries stamps. The Professor has asked me if I know anything about lace stamps. He says: Tess: It's not so much that I'm interested in stamps as it is that they are considered important ephemera. The American Textile Association even has a membership category for it. I will put any images I can get on my Web site, although probably not immediately. If Arachne has anything along this line to contribute, I'd welcome it. If interested Arachnids send URLs of Web pages that have suitable images, I'll do the image fetching. Ralph I have certainly read the postings over the years on the subject, but it not being my primary interest I haven't really paid enough attention. If anyone wants to contribute to his web site with pictures or information about the many lace stamps out there, both old and new, he would be most grateful. Please write me privately. It's nice to know that we can do something for him after all he is doing for us. By the way, he also collects old postcards on his site, but I think they have to be old and no longer copyrighted (before 1923, that is). Just to keep you up to date, both volumes of Ricci have been sent to him. The first is on line now, and he is working on the second. There will be a slight delay on this one because he has to work on two books which have to be returned next week. These are both from Vibeke, one a Treatise on Lace in English, and the other a very long one in German by one M. Dreger, with lots and lots of pictures as well as text.
