I imagine so, other than yours will have a lot more options than
mine does. I simply packaged Charles' binaries for lcdd and lcdproc
and wrote some scripts to take some options for the HD4470 chipset.

I wasn't aware there was already a package for this, so I just released
the one I was using. Yours sounds a lot more functional.

I've taken Charles' binaries and created a package for use with lcd's 
using the hd44780 controller (and some clone) chipset's. Init script is
included and the package includes /etc/lcd.conf which contains all
needed configuration options.
