Re: [LegacyUG] 0 RIN in the Index

2008-09-24 Thread Jenny M Benson

RIN 0 is used by Legacy to hold vital information relating to the use of
the program, which is why you cannot delete it.

And it should probably not be displayed on the Index tab. I would report
 this as a bug.

The word bug is usually used to mean something which the programmers did
not intend and would not wish to happen - in other words, a mistake.

Although I can see an argument in favour of not displaying this RIN 0 line
in the Name List, it is not a bug as these blank lines which are used by
Legacy and cannot be deleted appear at the head of most or all lists in
the program - Sources, Locations, etc.

In this case, I would call it a (apparently cosmetic) bug. I am a

this problem and I had to classify it as either a bug or a feature
request, I would classify it as a bug. And besides, how do you know what
the programmers intended? Did you ask? Perhaps you read minds?

That being said, if one of the developers can explain to me why
displaying RIN 0 in the Index tab (and Name List) is desired behavior, I
am more than willing to change my opinion. Maybe they have a good
reason. But at this point in time I don't see any benefit in displaying

The Master Source List does not display a blank line in V6.

The blank lines at the beginning of most of the other lists have a
different purpose. I'll leave it to you to figure out what that purpose
is.

Tom,

program, which is why you cannot delete it. I have never bothered to look as to
why it displays different persons when attempting to delete, but is obviously
connected to the information contained in row ID 0 (RIN 0) in tblIR at that
time. You can view this in either Access or Open Office Base.

I am using the latest version of Legacy 7.0

I was just looking at the Index Report of my family file. When I sorted the
report by RIN, there was a 0 as the first item in the RIN column. No
information is displayed in any other column.

When I tried to delete this RIN by highlighting the row and right-clicking
and selecting Delete, a box pops up that states Note: This will permanently
remove this record from the family file and will break all ties with the
following family members. A family that I do not want to delete is listed
 below that statement.

I have discovered that each time I try to delete this 0 RIN a different
family is displayed following the warning.

Should I just live with this 0 RIN in the Index Report or can someone tell
me how to get rid of it without deleting records that I want to keep.
