[LegacyUG] Wrong children in report

2012-01-24 Thread Jan Roberts
I have just noticed a couple of strange things with my file – or rather with
a report from my data. I have created a Descendant Narrative report. One
woman, named Eliza, is reported as having a husband called Tom. Trouble is,
my data does not show any husband for Eliza. Nor is there a Tom in my name
list. To my knowledge I have never entered Tom, linked them, and then
unlinked them and/or deleted Tom. However, Tom is actually a potential
husband of Eliza according to some research notes I have. That one will
remain a mystery I guess, because there has to be some logical explanation.
The second problem, same report, I have a woman named Rosetta who had a
relationship with an unknown man. She had one child to him. She then
married, and had several more children to her husband. However, the report
says Rosetta and the unknown man had three children and lists the correct
child, plus the first two children of her marriage. In the database they
are correctly linked to the husband, and NOT linked to the unknown man. If I
show half kids they are correctly listed as ½ siblings of the illegitimate
daughter. Anyone got any clues as to why this might have happened.

Cheers
Jan

I don't know the answer to this dilemma, but when I have discovered
weird things in the past where something was embedded, or more or less
invisible - I would delete the entire records involved and put them back
in again and see if the results are the same. Just a thought...but it
would be nice to figure out why.

Re: [LegacyUG] Timelines available

2012-01-24 Thread Sherry/Support
Or even the USA County Verifier, which lists all counties in all
states along with the date they were founded and disbanded (if that
happened). it also shows the parent counties and name changes.

Although you can't print the list out, you could do a screen shot and
enter the data into the new timeline from that - as you go down the
list and need to scroll, just scroll down and do another screen shot.

I should like to see a time line of the formation of Tennessee counties by
year. Similar to the one for Kentucky counties that is now in the timelines
list. An example of this is at this website:

 http://www.bryansite.com/countyTN.htm

I would like to be able to incorporate the list into the chronological view
of a person in Legacy. Having the same thing for North Carolina would be
 nice, too.

Re: [LegacyUG] Wrong children in report

2012-01-24 Thread Ron Ferguson

Jan,

I do not consider that deleting files at this stage is a good idea, a
check/repair, as suggested by Brian, is certainly a better starting point.

One thing is, however, very clear - you do have a Tom in your database, if
you didn't then he would not appear have you searched your Research Notes,
as it would seem that this is where it is recorded in your report, although
you do not actually say where he is recorded in your reports.

After doing a check/repair, you need to check, very carefully, all the links
for both women and 'all' their partners, are there more partners than you
thought, have you checked the marriage list to see how many partners there
are? You many find some ghost marriages.

Finally, think of unlinking before deleting anything - a piece of advice
when you unlink someone do make a note of the name *and* the RIN, it is mush
easier to find them later.

I've had it there for however long it's been since I got Win7 (right
after it came out). I've never had any problems.

Most problems arise from malware in emails and suspicious webpages and
downloads. If you keep good quality security software updated and
running, you shouldn't have any problems.

That being said, I do downloads and open attachments all the time and
I can't remember when I had a malware warning.

Also, I'm using DSL and behind a secure modem/router - I've tested my
security through a couple of websites (can't remember them right now)

Hi,

I have it set to *Default - notify me only when programs try to make changes to
my computer and that setting has never caused me any problems in Legacy (or
any other program) that I am aware of. Yes, I have the program installed in
C:\Legacy, but my data (fdb file) and multimedia are outside of the Legacy
folder.
Win 7/64 bit.

I certainly wouldn't want to change it to 'Never Notify' unless I absolutely
had to.

Are there specific situations where Legacy can't handle UAC?

If you have UAC switched on, any files Legacy normally writes to the program

Thanks Ron, and Brian.
I should have thought of check/repair myself. The only thing I can think of
that gave Eliza a marriage to Tom was that I had entered it at some stage,
then, upon realising that the marriage occurred before Eliza was born I deleted
it as obviously being wrong. I don't recall working on that line recently
(i.e. since I created the report) but logic says I must have done. As for the
errant children I ran check/repair and now all is well. Just out of curiosity
I wish I had run the report again before running check repair to see if the
report still added the children to the wrong father before check/repair.

The second problem, same report, I have a woman named Rosetta who had a
relationship with an unknown man. She had one child to him. She then
married, and had several more children to her husband. However, the
 report
says Rosetta and the unknown man had three children and lists the correct
child, plus the first two children of her marriage. In the database they
are correctly linked to the husband, and NOT linked to the unknown man. If
 I
show half kids they are correctly listed as ½ siblings of the
 illegitimate
daughter. Anyone got any clues as to why this might have happened.

 Cheers
 Jan

[LegacyUG] untag non-blood relatives

2012-01-24 Thread Tony Rolfe
I am currently searching the 1911 UK census and I have tagged everyone
who is likely to have been alive in 1911 via LTools. I then untagged all
the Australians because they won't be on the census.

I want to concentrate on my blood-line first, so is there a way to untag
everyone who is not some sort of blood relation?

Thanks in advance

Tony

[LegacyUG] Set birth locations

2012-01-24 Thread Tony Rolfe
I have just found a bunch of Australians in my tree with blank birth and
christening locations.

Is there any way to tag all descendants of a specific individual and
then, if their birth and christening locations are both blank, set the
birth location to Australia?

Thanks

Tony

Re: [LegacyUG] UAC - Users Account Control

2012-01-24 Thread Mike Fry

3 - Alternate Text Editor to use with Legacy (Leave blank for default
 text editor)

I kept expecting Legacy to automatically find Notepad, so I left that
blank. But it did not find it and kept giving me errors. So, when I
found Notepad (and Notepad ++) and put those in there, it worked both
times. It is not working if I leave it blank (maybe Legacy is expecting
it to be in a different location - not sure).

It doesn't find Notepad. It uses Default Programs and what has been defined as
the default program for opening .TXT files. If that hadn't been set up properly,
then it couldn't open the log file.
