Will those notes and sources transfer with the Share option?

If you have created a custom event in Legacy 7 you will have to add your
own event sentences, roles and the sentences for those roles for your
custom event after your file has been converted by Legacy 8. Legacy 8
will not transfer the event sentences for custom events from Legacy 7
because the sentence structures and rules on what is used have changed

When defining a custom event or role for an event there are options to
populate the sentences with a default set or to copy them from another

In your case you could copy the event sentences from the Legacy Standard
Census events and the role sentences from the census as you add roles to
your custom event.

Legacy then displays a screen that shows two individuals that are

useful to me if the discarded information and its sources could be
retained as an alternate event, such as Alt.Birth. This could be done
by providing an additional button next to the discard button. Down
loading of individual information from NewFamilySearch already provides this
alternative so the programming must exist in Legacy.
Legacy already provides a work around by the selection of edit
your file as a screen option in merging individuals, but this is
inconvenient. Is this a useful suggestion for others in the Users

[LegacyUG] source clipboard strange behavior

2013-07-15 Thread Mary LeClerc
I've been experiencing some what I regard as strange behavior with the
source clipboard in the last couple of days. I've been entering some
information I found on a family tree on Ancestry. I have saved to the
source clipboard the name of the person who submitted the tree and the name
of the tree itself, rather than just using the generic Ancestry family
member trees. I also put the web address in the text tab of the source.
So I've been working on this for a couple of days and along the way I've
stopped for a break and shut Legacy down. Each of the last four or five
times I've done this I've discovered when I start again, the source on my
clipboard is not rather garbled. The main tab says public member tree,
and has only a 1 in the date field. The text/comment tab contains
tree. The first time it happened I assumed I had accidently hit a key at
some point and caused it to be garbled. It's now done it at least five
times, maybe more.
I correct my source data, save it and replace the source information for
that person and proceed, but the next time I shut down it happens again.

What's going on?

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 8 revealed - Shared Events and Automatic Sorting

2013-07-15 Thread Mary LeClerc
Thanks, Brian. I'm not sure I made my question very clear. I was referring
to your explanation that if you choose to share a standard census event
with other people, then household member would automatically be inserted
in the description field for those additional people. I was expecting that
Legacy will not do that if I share a census event I have created. Since
it's a custom event, I imagined Legacy would have no way of knowing it
should treat it as a census unless the programming is sophisticated enough
to recognize I've retained the word census in my name. I label mine
1810 U.S. Census, 1820 U.S. Census, etc. I would think there is no
reason for Legacy to treat those any differently than it my event were
named Vacation Taken (I don't really have an event named that--trying to
illustrate my point). On the other hand I can see that it is a fairly
straightforward programming task for the program to treat the standard
census event as you described. Is my question any clearer, or have I just
been more confusing?

Wow, I love it! I have custom census events. I've created an event for
each U.S. census year. Not sure now why I decided to do it that way, but I
did, Will the automatic data entry when sharing the event with others still
work (ie..will it still add 'household member for instance?) Or have I
messed that up but not using the program generated event?
