[LegacyUG] import/export into Excel
Over the years I've read about people using spreadsheets for a variety of reasons. Is there a way of importing/exporting a certain group of people into a format that can be used in Excel? I understand how to create lists based on set parameters in Legacy but not how to use a separate spreadsheet program with it. THANKS! Re: [LegacyUG] import/export into Excel
Another alternative (also free) is GEDxlate. I've used it successfully. Remember that Excel doesn't handle dates before 1900. This is extracted from a promo for the program. GEDxlate translates genealogy data from standard GEDCOM format into MS Access dB (*.mdb), MS Excel Worksheet (*.xls), comma delimited (*.csv), and text file (*.txt) formats. Pick a GEDCOM file to translate; select which fields you want to include in your dB, spreadsheet, csv, or txt file; choose an output format and file name to save the translated data in; and you're there! [LegacyUG] Event Sentence Structure Recommendations
I would like to develop and event sentence specifically for wives and their children whose husband and/or father is a career military service member. The wife and children accompanied their husband and or father to each of his military reassignments in different locations, many were overseas and others were within the continental United States. Obviously, the wife and children are not subject to the Military Orders received by the husband, therefore, that would eliminate sentence structures specifically dealing with military transfers. I have struggled with this for a while, but for some reason, am drawing a blank. Any recommendations from the Legacy User Group will be appreciated. You probably already use a Travel Event for more general journeying, but how about one named Relocation? Then you could devise a sentence something like On Date Name relocated to Place when Desc I envisage you would use the Desc field to write something like when her husband's Regiment was posted there or whatever is appropriate. Re: [LegacyUG] How often is Legacy Research Guidance updated?
What a good idea Sherry. Are you suggesting to record any useful website, used for research, as a To-Do Item? A much better way than recording the list as a document. I don't know how often it's updated but I don't think it's been updated for some time. If you have suggestions, please send them on to us using the Suggest a new Feature link in the Support section of the Legacy Home tab *or* the website www.LegacyFamilyTree.com Help Center Make a Suggestion. Research Guidance, however, is designed to help you think of resources you haven't already thought of - if you know the resource you want to search, just make a To-Do item for it. What I'm wondering is, how often is the info that would appear there updated? I know that several histories of this are exist but don't own copies of all the ones I know of (yet). Some were published as recently as last year so perhaps that's the issue. Thanks for any info you can give me. Re: [LegacyUG] How often is Legacy Research Guidance updated?
Think of the To-Do feature as a Research Log. If you have a specific item to search and you know where you want to look, create a To-Do. I do know some people who have created Master Sources for sources they plan on using but haven't yet. [LegacyUG] Where should *.rf1 files be stored?
When I Save a report set-up or list, or whatever, the file type is shown as User File (*/rf1) and opens the folder, ComputerOS (C:)LegacyColor Schemes. Is this really where a report format/options should be saved?! There is no folder called Reports. Should I create one? If I do, will Legacy know to look there when I want to load the report? Re: [LegacyUG] import/export into Excel
It should be very straight forward as it doesn't actually need installing as such Download link is here - http://ftanalyzer.codeplex.com/ download and double click the file it then opens up the program. The under file, select Open, and find your GEDCOM and open it Then explore the various reports and other features it has. Re: [LegacyUG] Where should *.rf1 files be stored?
I've seen this. You can set the path to where you want the file to be saved while you're in the Save report name settings.. Most likely place is the root c:\Legacy folder. Legacy remembers the last used folder when you save settings so it should go to the c:\Legacy folder the next time you save settings. It should remember that folder when you want to load the saved settings. At least this is the way it worked for me when I just tested this. However, if the folder changes, you can always change the folder to load in the same way you selected a folder to save to. File folder and paths are completely different and in v8 they're going to a folder that will hold the usr files. Re: [LegacyUG] import/export into Excel
It seems the download is only 10KB, definitely no where near the advertised size of 13561K. Also, I have never dealt with Microsoft ClickOnce Application Deployment Support Library. Downloaded an earlier edition (host site does not have previous versions) and have not had any success there either. Framework 4 installed. Ah well, maybe it's not meant to be.
