Re: [LegacyUG] Not receiving your own posts?

2016-02-28 Thread Wendy Howard

It's about 7:15pm Monday as I start typing this reply.

I'll be around for another couple of hours, and will check for any posts
waiting to be released through the evening and immediately before I go
to bed.

I have no plans to go anywhere tomorrow, so will be keeping an eye on
the moderations throughout the day.

I have been having a conversation with one former LUG member today, who
is still receiving posts after she has left the list. It appears there
is a holdup somewhere along the line, and she is still receiving posts
that went to the list before she left, two days after she left. That's
nothing to do with LUG, but somewhere along the delivery line beyond our
control.

Wendy

PS 7:21pm now that I'm finished typing. ;-)

Sue,

The easiest way is to simply download the free program from the website as
you'll always get the latest version. Install, and when asked input the
deluxe number you have and it will activate the premium features. That easy.
If you can't find your serial number, contact Support and they will resend
you your number.

[LegacyUG] To-Do List

2016-02-28 Thread Linda Rogers
I have Legacy Deluxe 8.0.0.538 installed on my Dell Desktop and on my
Surface Pro 3. My data and media are stored in OneDrive and I can access
it from both of those 2 computers - just not at the same time. I have
Windows 8 on both computers. Everything works fine on my desktop. I am
able to open my To-Do List and work with my individual files. On my
Surface Pro 3, I cannot open my To-Do List. Legacy freezes up and I
usually have to do a forced sign-off. Any ideas as to why this happens or
what I can do to correct it? Everything else seems to work fine and my
data syncs great between the 2 computers.
Thank you,

Re: [LegacyUG] Reinstalling deluxe (paid) version

2016-02-28 Thread Cathy Pinner

Sue,

You need to download the installation file from legacyfamilytree.com
The standard free download and the deluxe file are exactly the same
download so you just go through the process for getting the free edition.
Then when installed (or during installation) you enter your customer
number to unlock the deluxe features.
If you've lost that you'll need to contact sa...@legacyfamilytree.com
and ask them if they can re-send your customer number.

If you are not using Legacy 8, there is a link to earlier versions on
the download page of the website.

[LegacyUG] Not receiving your own posts?

2016-02-28 Thread Wendy Howard
Since we moved over to Mailman last week, some people have noticed they
are not receiving copies of their own posts like they used to.

I'm seeing this myself, since Gmail used to echo back my own posts under
the old system, but - like the Rootsweb lists - doesn't under Mailman.

There is a solution, a setting in your own account with the list, and
you can set it yourself.

If you still have the welcome email from when this list was resurrected
last week, go to that and click on the link provided to take you
directly to your own subscription page.

If you don't have that any more, click on this link:
http://legacyusers.com/mailman/options/legacyusergroup_legacyusers.com/

Log in to your account.

If you don't know your password, fill in your email address in the
field provided and then click on the button to be sent a reminder.
Remember, you must use the address with which you're subscribed to

that mailing list. You'll receive an email telling you what the
password for your account with this list is.

Now you're at a page that says "LegacyUserGroup mailing list membership
configuration for , ". I expect the
part won't be included if you haven't told Mailman your
name; it's optional.

Scroll down to the Subscription Options section of the page, and look
for the one "Receive acknowledgement mail when you send mail to the
list?". Tick the Yes box, then click on the button "Submit My Changes"
at the bottom of the window.

Now when you post to that list, you will receive a short email from the
system to tell you that your post has been received by the mailing
list. If the list is on moderation, there will be a delay until the
post is approved.

Hope this helps. :-)

Rebecca said: "I keep my do in Dropbox along with all the documents,
media, etc."

Good point, Rebecca. This is one reason I don't often do a media backup
in Legacy, because everything that is precious to me on my computer is
in a Dropbox folder. I pay an annual subscription to Dropbox to have
1TB of space - that's bigger than the hard drive on my computer, so is
plenty for my needs. :-)

Of course, should the unthinkable happen and Dropbox falls off the face
of the earth, we will have lost that form of backup - however should
still have our own files on our own computers.

But remember, as /Ask Leo/ says: /If it’s in only one place, it’s not
backed up.

/
/And, remember also the "3,2,1 approach": /at least/ 3 copies, in 2
different formats, with 1 copy kept off-site. that's also discussed at
that Ask Leo link if you want to know more.

This is something for everyone to think about. I know I'm hopeless at
backups (except for Legacy prompting me when I exit the program) and
could do much better than I do.
