Re: [LegacyUG] Modified Date - suggestions for update ??

2018-10-11 Thread Cathy Pinner

Ian,
It would be easier to tag the modified individuals and export the tag
group to a new file and work from that.
You import this smaller file into your master file and use Tools - Merge
- Intellishare merge since the file has the same origin as your Master.

OR you could open the smaller file on the same computer as your Master
using Split Screen view and copy and paste between files.

...

Next time, Update your laptop with the latest version of your database
before using the laptop and then when you've finished using the laptop
update the desktop with the now latest version from the laptop.

It may seem a drag at the time but it's far more efficient in the long run.

Here are some ways to do that.
Backup to the Legacy Cloud and restore from the Legacy Cloud on the
other computer.
Backup to a thumb drive or other USB drive and restore on the other
computer.
OR you can actually keep your data file on a thumb drive and move it
from one computer to the other making sure you are opening the file on
the thumb drive (or other external drive - but a thumb drive is most
convenient). If you do this make sure you have backups elsewhere as when
thumb drives fail, they really fail.
OR keep your data file in the cloud. I wouldn't do this as my internet
connection isn't good enough but here's an article on it:

database on the laptop.

My idea of how to approach this -
I have used a Search/Find to create a list of records that I have
changed (on a laptop version of my Legacy FT database) - using just
the "Individual Modified Date after 7 Aug 2018" - which gives me up to
245 records requiring some updating to my desktop database.
Having this situation is certainly awkward, and how it occurred is not
important, but apart from a small number of records most will be
easily updated by visually comparing with desktop and laptop side by
side, guided by a suitable list.

The search gave "245 Names including Alternate and Married Names".
What is the best way to produce a report from the on- the-road
laptop,  to guide my one-by-one manual updating  of the desktop Legacy
database?
I think I should uncheck the Alternate Names, keep the Married option,
and Print as PDF choosing a large number of the field options to be
included.

The RIN will not be entirely reliable.

Re: [LegacyUG] Event Copy & Paste

2018-10-11 Thread Cathy Pinner

Ian

Your message is confusing.
In Split Screen, do you have the same file open on both sides but just
looking at a different view or person on both sides OR do you have a
different file open on the second side which just happens to be a
duplicate or older copy of your current file?  I think you mean the second.

When you have different files open, then you can copy a person from
database to database but not part of their data except by using Windows
copy and paste.
You could copy over the person, then copy the event you want and then
delete the person you copied over instead of merging them.

Re: [LegacyUG] Excluding private notes

2018-10-11 Thread Cathy Pinner

Teresa,

Please submit this to Support with more detail of where your Private
notes are.
I've just tested adding private notes to General Notes, Birth Notes,
Death Notes and Event Notes, exported a Focus group to gedcom and the
Private notes are not there. So I can't reproduce this. I used the
current release 9.0.0.226

I usually export all with a certain tag and then I have not
experienced a problem then; have just checked and with all the same
options EXCEPT choosing all with a given tag instead of a focus group
the private notes are properly excluded. It clearly seems to be a bug
when exporting a focus group.

Thanks,

(If there is no easy way around this will be for me more encouragement

about 3 year to fix, and wasted my time with very poor customer service)

Re: [LegacyUG] Is it possible to change colours in the “Vintage” colour scheme in Family View and Pedigree View?

2018-10-11 Thread johnbernacki1
Thank you Cathy, you saved me yet again. You way you explained it made me
realize that I should click on the parts of the screen while the pink box first
opens. I had been making the mistake of thinking that I had to change the
background colours after selecting one of the links/options within the pink
box.

Cheers,

John

John,

Options - Change Colours gets you to the full Colour Change screen. It opens a
pink box. When that is open you can click on all parts of the screen and choose
different colours. Note some areas you may want to change don't have a fairly
small area to click without bringing up the colour change options for something
else entirely. eg the background - you may actually click on one of the hidden
quick navigation panes next to the name boxes.

For some things you need to go to the link for other user-interface colours OR
go straight there in Options - Customise 9.2

When you have the colours as you like, make sure you save them for future use
with your own distinctive name. Then you can just choose your own colour scheme
again if you have to reset your settings to Legacy defaults. I add my initials
to any colour scheme I create to make them easy to spot in the list.
Saved colour schemes are at ...\Documents\Legacy Family
Tree\_AppData\ColorSchemes\ folder
For extra safety backup this folder or your own colour schemes files to your
off computer backup.

Cathy

I have been doing that. The only bit of background I was able to change are
strips which tells the relationships, between husband, wife and their parents.

Right click on the background and select change color scheme.

I had a bug and in process of fixing it, the person from Legacy Technical
Support told me to delete the usr file. This solved the problem but it also
deleted all of my customised settings including background colours.

I cannot find a way to get the Family View or Pedigree View background
colours back to how they were. All of the available colour schemes are
basically gradient except Vintage. I do not like gradient because I have a
visual impairment. Vintage however seems to only have one colour scheme which
is too bright and I cannot find a way to change its colours. I have tried
options in the user-interface colours but nothing changes the colour of the
background around the field boxes in Family View and Pedigree View.

From my memory of when I set the colours many years ago, I used Vintage and
changed the background colour, so I believe it can be done somehow.

  John
