Thank you Brian. I had completely forgotten that the spouse list existed. I
think people often stop seeing icons that they rarely use.

Do you have the wives correctly sorted by marriage date? If they are in
the wrong order when you display they spouse list for him they will be
in the wrong order in reports as well.

Re: [LegacyUG] Turning off RIN display in the Children list

2019-10-01 Thread Ian Thomas
Cathy, yes - that worked.

In fact, after leaving 8.2 with Save, I could see the RIN in the Child section
disappear (ie, without needing to change to another family etc).
Since I don't ever want to see any of the options under that part of 8.2, I
didn't think to un-check the On Family View, Pedigree ... top line

Ian,

I think I've found the problem.
When you go to Options > Customise 8.2 to turn off RINs, uncheck the RIN box
AND uncheck On Family View, Pedigree ...
If you just uncheck the RIN box they still show in the Grid after the names
Just unchecking RIN removes them from elsewhere on the Family View.

Please confirm whether that fixes it and then I'll see if it's in the Bug
tracker and if not, enter it.

I don't use the Ancestor and Descendant Interest but they are searchable so
they're another way of keeping track of particular groups of people and knowing
whether you want to do more research on them or not.
You decide whether 0 or 3 indicates most or least interest.
You may mark direct ancestors 3 to show you want to do as much research as
possible on them but mark the children of your second cousin once removed at 0
descendant interest as you don't want to extend your tree down from them.
You may (and I think should where possible) include the parents of spouses who
marry in but mark them Ancestor Interest at 0 as you don't want to research
their ancestors.
You could think of them as quick To-Dos or Research completed indicators
- or give them whatever meaning you like.
I repeat, they're searchable so you can find everyone with Ancestor Interest
set at 2.

The RIN persist in the child section (grid) below the marriage line –
above it, RIN doesn’t appear. And the first thing I did was to set the
options, then exit Legacy. Start it again, change to another “family”,
observe, exit, restart. I still have RIN in the Child section – only 7
children. I am not confusing child # with RIN.

The Family Group is OK, sort of, if I turn off all the Notes and
Events. But I want 3 generations to show.

However, whether this is an error in Legacy -  or I haven’t discovered
the settings to change - I have done what I need to even though square
bracketed display is superfluous.

Ian Thomas

Albert Park, Victoria 3206 Australia

The setting that removes the RIN after the names of the central couple
and the parents also removes it from the children in the Child
scrolling grid. Or have you added a column for the RIN? Or are you
confusing the Child number with the RIN?

If it isn't disappearing, try changing screen and back to force the
grid to redraw.

Seems a lot of messing around if you are also changing font sizes and
you can't have many children in the family.

Why not use the Family Group report?

I would like advice on how to do this, please.

In order to get a simple overview of a family via a screen capture, I
am tweaking the usual screen display

But I can’t find the setting to _turn off_ the display of the RIN
numbers in the Children list (in grid view)  below the usual Family
view. I have turned off the RIN display for husband/wife, but the
children still have it showing.

I guess I should have saved my default settings before changing the
font size and stretch min/max, and the husband/wife RIN.
