Am not that familiar with this nut in the Child settings, i think there is a
selection for adoption so i suppose that would help explain status?

Try this: Add the child as a new unlinked individual, then go to the unmarried
adopting parent and “link to an existing Son/Daughter”. Now click on the
Marriage section for the adopting parent and check the box saying no evidence
of marriage. The report should say Parent has a child with no mention of a
relationship. Worked for me.

If an unmarried person has a child, Legacy rightly assumes there was a
man involved and there is the option to use the phrase "had a
relationship with" or something similar. However, what if a single
woman (or man, come to that) adopts a child? How can one "attach" the
child to the mother (or father) but avoid any indication of a second
parent being involved? I tried checking the "did not marry" box and
deleting the wording "had a relationship with" but Legacy just puts "had
a relationship with" back, even when I tried just putting a couple of
spaces in the wording box.

Thanks to everyone who has responded to my query. It has now been
pointed out to me (off-list) that there is the facility to change the
wording of what is usually the Marriage event, so I have done that
rather than create an Event.

What word would other LUGgers use in the following circumstance. I want to
create a sentence for a Civil Partnership Event which reads:

Civil Partnership: on 16 March 2021 she ... Jane Doe.

I know how to set up the Sentence (the name of the partner will be entered
in the Desc field) but it's the wording in place of ... that I am wondering
about.

The person who told me about this partnership of his relative said they
"married" (his inverted commas) and I originally wrote that, but now that
marriage of same sex couples is allowed (in some countries) I don't want to
use that word for a Civil Partnership. I could say "was partnered with" but
it's a bit repetitive when the Sentence begins with the title "Civil
Partnership."

Not sure if I got the replaceable text field names correct but you can
use the correct ones to get a sentence reading "Jane entered into a
civil partnership with Sally Ride on 16 Mar 2021 in Swindon, Wiltshire,
England. In a list of Events the sentences will alternate the person's
first name with He or She based on gender of the person. That gives a
little variation to break up the monotony.

The thing is that I have a standard format for all my Events, which is
always [EventName]: followed by [onDate] then usually [Desc] with other
standard text slotted in as required. So my Sentence for a CP is

«b»[EventName]«/b»: [onDate] [HeShe] ... [Desc].[Sources][CR][Notes]

Originally I had "was 'married' to" in the place of the ... but that is
no longer appropriate.
