Re: [LegacyUG] Messed up my upgrade from Legacy 8 to 9and also lost my family file

2021-05-08 Thread Brian Kelly
When you install Legacy 9 it overwrites the Legacy 8 installation. Your
family file will have the extension .fdb. If you have a shortcut on your
desktop to open Legacy 8 it will open 9 not 8.

You can use Windows Search to find all files on your computer with the
.fdb extension and it should find your family file. Note the folder
where that is located then use Legacy File > Open File, point to that
location and Legacy will open your file.

I have downloaded the two files and have opened the PDF manual okay.
I think (I'm sure) I put legacy 8 customer number in by mistake when
opening legacy 9.
I had already made a shortcut on the desktop for Legacy 9 to keep it
separate from Legacy 8.
I renamed the Legacy 9 shortcut to make it stand out, but somehow I now
have two shortcuts for Legacy 9.
One shortcut opens legacy with a blank screen and showing the basic
ribbon with New File , Open file.
But I have been unable to open my family file, basically I have
forgotten some of the "legacy magic" that i used to know

I have located the Legacy 9 Customer No.
I hope I have not damaged my family file and that it can be recovered

I hope there is someone who can follow what I have done and help me fix it

Re: [LegacyUG] How to Backup to Drop Box please

2021-05-08 Thread Brian Kelly
Yes because you simply look at the copies in the Dropbox folder on your
hard drive. NOTE: if you are not online the copies on your computer may
not be up-to-date because you must be online for the files on your
computer to sync with those in the cloud at Dropbox.com.

Brian, does that system allow you to access your docs and photos when

To have things transfer between Dropbox and your computer(s) you place
the files in a special Dropbox folder on your computer's hard drive, it
is created by the Dropbox software.

The Dropbox software on your computer will also allow you to open the
files at the Dropbox site so you can manage them.

To have your backups go to Dropbox just tell Legacy to save your
backups
to that Dropbox folder. For pictures I would suggest you create
sub-folders in your Dropbox folder so you can organize the pictures in
some way. I think Dropbox may already have a document sub-folder for
your general files. Place the originals (or copies) in that folder.

Re: [LegacyUG] Hints - runtime error 380

2021-05-08 Thread Ian Thomas
Legacy 9 crash.
When setting the number of refresh days for MyHeritage hints (I had it at 30,
wanted to change to the maximum, 120 days) it is very easy to have a mouse-slip
and as I did, have an illegal number enter. It became 230.
This immediately throws a fatal error an exits from Legacy (latest v9 release).
I attempted to enter a number rather than increase from using the control, from
30 to 120. No opportunity is given to correct an illegal value
It should be a very easy fix, to check but not cause a crash.
