will not pay for a subscription. I pay for several other sites to do

Re: [LegacyUG] MyHeritage subscriptions

2023-10-04 Thread L S
Ian,
I purchased a 10-year subscription on Feb. 14, 2023 for $747.50 and
received a 50% discount for the first 5 years. I'm in the U.S.
I am very unhappy with the company and am planning to blog about it. I
decided to delete my existing tree on the site as I only maintain one tree
and never updated that one. I then planned to upload the new one. Had
difficulty uploading a new tree, got an email notice that it was being
processed and I'd receive a notice when it was accomplished. Never
happened. I was going out of the country so decided to wait until I
returned to try again. In May, I tried to delete the old tree first but it
wouldn't delete. Still couldn't upload a new tree and after that attempt,
got no notice it was being processed.
Ran into Daniel Horowitz at a conference in June and he tried to help me
delete and upload (brought the new gedcom on a thumb drive). He couldn't
get it to work either. I allowed him to copy my gedcom so that their IT
Dept could upload it. Two months passed and nothing was different on the
site so I emailed him. Within a week a tech person emailed me back with
instructions, and wanted pics of what messages I was getting. This
back-and-forth lasted the entire month of August. He was able to delete the
tree but I couldn't replace it. What's really interesting is that I was
told by Daniel Horowitz and the tech person that once I deleted that tree
all the DNA Matches would disappear. I was okay with that as they should
repopulate when the new tree was uploaded. Except, my matches never
disappeared. I was then informed by another tech person that my problem was
a known bug (well, if they knew that why did they waste my time for a
month?) and that I should download Family Tree Builder and upload
through that. Now it was September and it still wasn't working. I got a new
tech person who wanted me to start the story all over again. I admit I was
a little snippy in my response because she had all the previous emails and
if she just looked at them she'd understand. I then got another tech
person. Wanted to start this ridiculous process all over again. Wrote an
email outlining everything that had been tried. He responded two weeks ago
I'd hear from someone. Still waiting.
I don't like blogging about poor customer support but I really feel that
this new bunch has no clue what they are doing. When I questioned why I was
told that my DNA matches would disappear by two employees only to see that
they are still there I was told I misunderstood. Nope, not on my end, plus
they admit they have a bug they don't know how to fix. I have stopped using
Legacy Family Tree software and have switched to Rootsmagic. Sad to see
this go but not the first time - have had to switch from TI84 cartridge to
.paf to Family Tree Maker so it's just another go around in the tech cycle.
Let us know if you are successful getting a refund.

 Ian,

Do you, like me, live in Australia? I once subscribed to MyHeritage and
did not know why I was subjected to every dirty trick in the book, while
other subscribers seemed happy with MyHeritage. Recently I found out the US
has strict laws against such “Dark Pattern” tricks, but Australia does not.
It appears to me that MyHeritage, instead of simply treating Australians
the same way as Americans, deliberately crafted their interface for
 Australians, to trick them.

My offer by email was $92.29. I had a little trouble getting them to honor
this price on renewal but eventually they did and just renewed it for an
even $92. It has since auto renewed at that price without any problem. I
kept a copy of the offer which I provided them but I couldn't get it
resolved until I spoke with someone in sales at their office in Israel. The
offer was then immediately honored with an apology for the hassle I had
experienced. Hope this helps.

There is usually no problem getting refunds for any payments made via
PayPal. I don’t know if this applies for payments made a long time ago.

When I wanted to unsubscribe from My Heritage, I had to search the internet
for a way to do so, because MyHeritage had buried the way, very deeply and
obscurely in their website. I believe that under US laws, companies must
make unsubscribing easy. I wish Australia would hurry to do this.

Re: [LegacyUG] MyHeritage subscriptions

2023-08-08 Thread Douglas James Tighe
Hi all,
The economy comes into this conundrum.
If the inflation rate stays static for say 10 years at +10% you divide that
into 72 and you get the value of 7.2 which means your $10 is now worth
only $7.2.
Hope this helps to understand why a positive increase is not a good thing.

No, I am not in Australia but in Canada I have not noticed any
deliberate deception from My Heritage. If there is an error and It was not
mine then I will get it fixed.
The solution to a major complaint would be to quit them.

Re: [LegacyUG] MyHeritage subscriptions

2023-08-07 Thread Ian Macaulay
Yep, They are charging me 125US But my Contract was for either 79 or
99US. Then they mucked about .
They said I cancelled but I had no say in that and then the next thing my
data shows up on another members site.
Today they are telling me that I was paying for that members subscription.
So I am getting frustrated.

I am trying to find the original agreement, but Its a deep well.

Ian...

Are you allowing for the currency difference?  My renewals are
approximately US$135.  So when converted to Canuck dollars it hurts!

Cheers! -- Dave

Does anyone remember the price and or the date that the offer was
made?.

It seems that somehow I have had an account switch and price
increase.  I am trying to figure out what went astray.

Re: [LegacyUG] MyHeritage subscriptions

2023-08-07 Thread Brian Kelly
I do not remember the price but it was 1/2 the usual price at that time
and there was supposed to be a guarantee it would not be increased. If
you kept the documentation on your subscription at that time you might
have an argument with the MyHeritage sales people to reset your renewal
price. Have a search of the Legacy News blog, you might be able to find
the deal announcement on the blog which will have more information.

[LegacyUG] MyHeritage subscriptions

2023-08-07 Thread Ian Macaulay
Back when Millennial sold out to Heritage they offered their complete
package for a fixed price.

Does anyone remember the price and or the date that the offer was made?.

It seems that somehow I have had an account switch and price increase. I
am trying to figure out what went astray.
