Legacy-related data is already rather scattered. It would be nice to have a notice that a new location has been added, and then to have an option in the Legacy location options to direct it wherever you like. (Perhaps that does exist -- I haven't used this feature.) We already must keep track of locations for active family files, backups, usr files, geo database, and derived reports and charts. I agree that the whole concept of the C:/Legacy folder was flawed. (Static program files should have been in Program Files and changing data should have been stored under user control, defaulting to My Documents.) But do we now want a hybrid approach, each time a new type of data is invented? I would like to know more about a 'restructuring', if that is really underway. When I bought my Windows 7 computer last year, I found that the C: drive was fairly small and the E: drive was huge. I had to redirect some of our 'My' folders to the E: drive. (My Documents, My Pictures, My Music, My Videos) Some people will not know how to do this, but they would be able to deal with location options within applications like Legacy. Ward, In this case, it appears that the only option is the 'My Documents' folder. I moved the new Legacy FS folder from My Documents to the Legacy Data folder in my separate data partition (drive P: on my machine). This where I had moved my fdb family files long ago, and where Legacy is quite happy to use them once I pointed once to them in the new location. Ditto for my multimedia files. But, in this case the next time I opened LegacyFamilySearch it recreated everything in My Documents, and ignored what I had moved to my P: drive. So, I guess that's just the way it is. For information, what's in this folder is: Three subfolders called: data, PDFs, and TempleCards. In my case, all three contain no files. Other files called: LegacyNFS.ini WinSettings.ini store8.fsd legacyfs.txt legacyfsnews.txt I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, I now know that is where Legacy has chosen to put the files and it cannot be changed. I would rather it be something that I could change like the location of the family file, but it does not work that way. Just to complicate matters a bit. In C:\Legacy I also have a folder called Family Search with many of the same file names, and a few more. I am a user of Family Tree integration. So, to summarize, I have folders with similar content; C:\Legacy\Family Search C:\(username)\Legacy Family Tree\Legacy FS I would rather not have anything under my user profile. Legacy is restructuring correctly how and where Legacy should be installed as per the Windows convention. You will still be able to install Legacy where you want but certain parts of the program will end up these other locations.
