Re: [LegacyUG] Split Screen View, Drag and Drop all in File, adding visible \par to text

2017-10-30 Thread tamaram1
Sorry again, I'm sure there is a correct channel to send this at/to. I have
thought it might have been before I started using Google chrome. I have no
problem since I changed. The rft format might be the problem, even tho i dont
know what i did to make all the older ones do this, the par back slash is only
at the beginning of each line. I have forwarded my text to rhe main offce now
so maybe they will have a solution for me.

Brian,
the RTF formating for a paragraph looks like this in an ascii environment;

\par \pard\plain
\s0\widctlpar\hyphpar0\cf0\kerning1\dbch\af8\langfe2052\dbch\af6\afs24\alang1081\loch\f3\hich\af3\fs24\lang1033{\rtlch
 \ltrch\loch
is}

Notice the "\par" with a backslash.  I wish she would post one of the links she
is copying from.  I would like to see it myself.

2017-10-30 Thread Brian Kelly
If I remember correctly the /par code is a code used in rich text
format(rtf) files to indicate a paragraph. The text you are copying from
Ancestry may be in rtf format.

Try pasting the text into Notepad first (that should get rid of any
special codes and convert the copy to plain text). You can then copy and
paste from Notepad into Legacy and you should not get those /par codes.

Jay,

I can't reproduce this. After trying I noticed you were showing some
form of a PP report. So tried copying and pasting from the PDF.
After Split Screen drag and drop I'm getting a non-printing character of
some sort that looks like a narrow box. It doesn't appear to affect output.

Perhaps you are pasting some other hidden character?

How long have we had the option to "Strip Html"?

Have not tried it during a merge but expect using that option on notes

Have you tried hitting the "Strip HTML" button in the notes field?
Copying from the web can often also copy embedded code and symbols
that need to be removed.  It is possible that this is what you are
seeing.

You can have two Family Files open using split screen. You could use the
browser on the Legacy Home tab of one of the files while you work in the
other one, but the browser window is going to be awfully small.

Plus there's no Address bar for you to enter the URL of a website - you can
only access the links in the Support section or in the Legacy News.

When working with the internet and your Family File, it's much more
effective if you access the internet in your browser.

RE: [LegacyUG] Split Screen View

Should add that I can get the second file open by manually Opening a family
File - it populates one panel, and original stays in other panel.

Is anyone else having a problem with split screen view with the latest version
7.5.0.182? When I invoke Split Screen View I don't seem to be getting the
option to open a different file. I only get two screens with the same file.
Was working fine in the previous version, because I recently used it.

RE: [LegacyUG] Split Screen View

2012-04-11 Thread Michele Lewis
I have had that happen to me in the past from time to time (not with this build
yet). I will open the split screen but it doesn't give the option of opening
another file but rather just puts two of the same file on the two panes. All I
had to do was close the split screen and then try it again then it would ask me
about opening another file. I would say this has happened to me maybe 5 or 6
times? I didn't worry much about it because like I said, once I closed it and
reopened it, it worked fine.

So what you are saying is, you are not actually putting one side of the split
screen on one monitor and the other file on the other monitor. You are
dragging the entire Legacy window and balancing it between the two monitors so
that the left split on is the left monitor and the right split is on the right
monitor?

I have just tried and confirm that with Legacy open (not maximised) showing a

I have Win7 64 and similar but not matching monitors.

That is correct Michele, you cannot divide the split screen into two
parts, they are all the same window as far as Windows is concerned and
Legacy does not let you drag outside the boundaries of the window it has
had Windows draw on your monitor.

Split Screen is two files open in separate windows within a single instance of
Legacy. It's a limited form of a tiled, MDI interface. Similar to tiling all
your open windows on the Windows Desktop. Not having a dual-monitor machine to
experiment with, I suppose it might be possible to stretch the Legacy window so
that it occupied the width of two screens. Then, you could have one file on each
screen. You'd just need to position the vertical splitter bar dividing the two
files so that it was at the edges (right on one and left on the other) of the
screens.

DON'T MAXIMISE THE WINDOW! That will only fill one screen with the Legacy window
and you won't be able to stretch it across two screens.

Michele,

I don't have dual monitors, but by deducing your statement; don't drag the
split screen, drag the edge of the Legacy program to the other monitor. Logic
dictates that by making the Legacy app cross two monitors, will stretch the
split screen.

Re: [LegacyUG] Split Screen

2012-04-09 Thread Dave Keeney
I don't know then. I don't remember setting up anything differently in
Legacy to make this work for me. And you shouldn't have to.
What OS? I'm running W7. I haven't been using 2 monitors as long as
you have (just a couple of months).
And if other applications able to be put on the other monitor I'm at a loss.
Maybe support can give you some ideas, sorry.

Okay, I have Legacy up and running on my main monitor.  It is NOT maximized

either side of the split screen, it will only go as far as the edge of the
Legacy window on my main monitor.  It will not let me drag either side to the
other monitor.  I have had 2 monitors for a couple of years now and I drag
stuff back and forth all the time but I can't get this to work.

You need to make sure your Legacy session is not maximized on the first
monitor. If it's not maximized you can stretch it to your hearts content. At
least I could. Make sure it's resizeable and then just stretch it to the
 other monitor.

Re: [LegacyUG] Split Screen

2012-04-09 Thread Brett McL Robinson
I have just tried and confirm that with Legacy open (not maximised)
showing a split screen the Legacy window can be dragged across two
monitors, so that the split coincides with the join in monitors.

I have Win7 64 and similar but not matching monitors.

Re: [LegacyUG] Split Screen

2012-04-09 Thread Myrna Jorgensen
I use a program called UltraMon to control my two monitors. Usuallu I have
Legacy on one screen and the internet on the other with Ancestry or
FamilySearce. I tried with dragging the screen all the way across using two
different Legacy families and it worked for me.

I think I got UltraMon through cNet but not sure since I have been using it for
several years.

RE: [LegacyUG] split screen question

2011-05-30 Thread Carl Cox
In order to use a split screen, you have to make the windows resizable.
So you just stretch the Legacy window as large as you want, and the
split screen will then show one split on each monitor. I just tried it,
and it works well.
