Re: [LegacyUG] Split Screen View, Drag and Drop all in File, adding visible \par to text
Sorry again, I'm sure there is a correct channel to send this at/to. I have thought it might have been before I started using Google chrome. I have no problem since I changed. The rft format might be the problem, even tho i dont know what i did to make all the older ones do this, the par back slash is only at the beginning of each line. I have forwarded my text to rhe main offce now so maybe they will have a solution for me. Re: [LegacyUG] Split Screen View, Drag and Drop all in File, adding visible \par to text
If I remember correctly the /par code is a code used in rich text format(rtf) files to indicate a paragraph. The text you are copying from Ancestry may be in rtf format. Try pasting the text into Notepad first (that should get rid of any special codes and convert the copy to plain text). You can then copy and paste from Notepad into Legacy and you should not get those /par codes. Brian Kelly On 30-Oct-17 9:27 AM, tamaram1 wrote: So sorry, sure I'm posting this in the wrong place. Re: [LegacyUG] Split Screen
You can have two Family Files open using split screen. You could use the browser on the Legacy Home tab of one of the files while you work in the other one, but the browser window is going to be awfully small. Plus there's no Address bar for you to enter the URL of a website - you can only access the links in the Support section or in the Legacy News. When working with the internet and your Family File, it's much more effective if you access the internet in your browser. The split screen lets u edit 2 files side by side. In single screen mode, a n internet search for a person using Legacy will open a 2nd screen using Internet Explorer. So, you then have 2 windows open, 1) Legacy and 2) the Internet - Internet explorer. RE: [LegacyUG] Split Screen View
I have had that happen to me in the past from time to time (not with this build yet). I will open the split screen but it doesn't give the option of opening another file but rather just puts two of the same file on the two panes. All I had to do was close the split screen and then try it again then it would ask me about opening another file. I would say this has happened to me maybe 5 or 6 times? I didn't worry much about it because like I said, once I closed it and reopened it, it worked fine. So what you are saying is, you are not actually putting one side of the split screen on one monitor and the other file on the other monitor. You are dragging the entire Legacy window and balancing it between the two monitors so that the left split on is the left monitor and the right split is on the right monitor? michele From: Brett McL Robinson [mailto:b...@vodafone.co.nz] Sent: Monday, April 09, 2012 11:17 PM To: LegacyUserGroup@LegacyUsers.com Cc: Dave Keeney Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Split Screen I have just tried and confirm that with Legacy open (not maximised) showing a split screen the Legacy window can be dragged across two monitors, so that the split coincides with the join in monitors. That is correct Michele, you cannot divide the split screen into two parts, they are all the same window as far as Windows is concerned and Legacy does not let you drag outside the boundaries of the window it has had Windows draw on your monitor. It would be easier to work with the files if they were bigger. Split Screen is two files open in separate windows within a single instance of Legacy. It's a limited form of a tiled, MDI interface. Similar to tiling all your open windows on the Windows Desktop. Not having a dual-monitor machine to experiment with, I suppose it might be possible to stretch the Legacy window so that it occupied the width of two screens. Then, you could have one file on each screen. You'd just need to position the vertical splitter bar dividing the two files so that it was at the edges (right on one and left on the other) of the screens. DON'T MAXIMISE THE WINDOW! That will only fill one screen with the Legacy window and you won't be able to stretch it across two screens. -- Regards, Mike Fry Johannesburg Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). In order to use a split screen, you have to make the windows resizable. So you just stretch the Legacy window as large as you want, and the split screen will then show one split on each monitor.
