Comment:

The jabber plugin is now in such a shape that basic messaging works. There
are still many bugs and functionality that isn't implemented, but they
will be treated a separate bugs instead of being put under this massive
 catch-all bug.

 Setting this to fixed.

Comment:

Support for a new protocol should be implemented as a separate new plugin
and therefore falls outside the scope of development of the Licq daemon
 and existing plugins.

If anyone is willing to create (and preferably maintain) a Jabber plugin
for Licq, we will of course consider including it as a standard Licq
 plugin in future releases.

Comment:

I have a better idea; how about making XMPP/Jabber the core protocol? All
the other protocols will eventually become obsolete anyway. Though at the
very least if Licq doesn't get some form of XMPP support, it'll probably
become ancient history. Plus once AOL an S2S gateway for XMPP, there will
be no real need to maintain the OSCAR stuff and who knows, AOL may even
move away from that stuff itself eventually.

Comment (by root_42):

Yes, Jabber is definitely something we all like to see in the future. But
I rather think that this will be something for Licq 2.x, when the new API
for plugins is running. Writing a Jabber plugin for the old API would be a
 bit futile, I guess?
