   I don't have the file and Google searches haven't shown where I get
  it or what generates it.

Note that geometry.sty is a LaTeX file, not a Lilypond script. Complete

The problem and solution is also described in the installation 
instructions for Lilypond. However, I'm surprised that the style 
file wasn't included in your TeX installation. What Linux
distribution do you use?

apt-get install tetex-extra solved it!

I didn't notice until just now that this was one of those lists where 
Reply doesn't go to the list.

 apt-get install tetex-extra solved it!

How did you install lilypond?  apt-get should take care of this
dependency automagically.

As an aside, I really wonder why such a useful package as geometry
gets shipped in tetex-extra, by some distributions.
