Re: [LincolnTalk] Bear sighting just now at Fox Run Road

2024-05-13 Thread Linda McMillan
I talked with the Massachusetts bear biologist today. He said this bear was
moved from Worcester where he was wandering into a very developed area not
because he was aggressive or violent. He's about two years old and has
moved about 35 miles in the last week. They have no intention of moving him
out of Lincoln. He said we should get used to having bears in our town. The
likelihood is that we will see more.

He said to take down your bird feeders and bring in your trash.

Regarding dogs, he said there is more risk that your dog will be attacked
by a coyote than by a bear. However, he said if you have a dog that wanders
or does not come to you when called, or who is aggressive, he suggests
keeping it on a leash.

He also said there is no need to notify them of the current location
because they have no plans to move the bear.

I hope this is helpful.
