Re: Missing DASD after reboot
That was what I expected. So when I edit the 51-dasd.0.0.0213.rules myself that would be basically the same as using dasd_configure. OK, apart from that dasd_configure also sets the volumes online (but that I can do with chccwdev). That is what I did for all volumes. - link the new minidisks - chccwdev to set them online - dasdfmt, fdasd etc - now the volumes are ready for use for oracle - add the entries in /etc/udev/rules.d/ to ensure the volumes are found during reboot. Regards, Berry. -Original Message- From: Linux on 390 Port [mailto:LINUX-390@VM.MARIST.EDU] On Behalf Of Mark Post No, that's all it does. It can also flag the volume as using the DIAG driver. The default is non-DIAG. The dasd_configure command is what we use to bring DASD volumes online in the initrd so that the root file system can be mounted. Does anyone use Microsoft's SCOM monitoring tool with zLinux?
My manager just came to me with a question that was raised in a manager's meeting. Our distributive group (Unix/RH/Solaris/AIX) was complaining about the Tivoli agents on their servers creating problems, not reporting, etc. The Window's group manager stepped in with the response of why they don't start using SCOM instead? Looking at the Microsoft websites (not very helpful of course, more marketing, little technical) for SCOM (System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2), I do see it can be used with Linux, but does not get into the detail of which architecture. I would safely assume x86, but would it work on s390x? Is anyone out there using SCOM on their platform (zLinux, or s390x) with either RHEL or SUSE? Can anyone point me to a datasheet on this product (System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2) that lists supported platforms? Re: Error while DASDFMT
Thanks to my German colleagues I've found a workaround. As it turns out the problem occurs when the minidisks are linked in an SLES11 SP1 guest. When the guest is logged on the dasd is correctly attached. Unfortunately this means that it is not possible to add dasd dynamically. At least for now I can move on with this guest. Re: Missing DASD after reboot
I don't know for sure but I think it even was the 0213 that was created with dasd_configure. The others were created by copying, as it turned out, the wrong configfile. I didn't remember to take the owner data into account. Hence, one file contains the owner data (213) and the others do not contain the owner. Unfortunately the problem was 'fixed' and the server is now in production. So it might be a problem to just test some options. May be we can get a window to test it. Thanks for now. I would safely assume x86, but would it work on s390x? The generic SNMP support works fine with SCOM if you install netsnmp on the Linux guests and load the appropriate MIB files into SCOM.
