Re: IFL performance reference
Thanks. The raw PCI numbers on the charts and graphs suggest a 3-fold performance increase over a z10 BC. However with onboard JIT optimization and hardware multithreading, the z13 could show a 10x improvement with Java workloads. Using solid state drives with Linux guests
Has anyone had experience using solid state drives (SSD) with a zLinux guest running under z/VM 6.3? We recently got a DS8870 that has quite a few SSDs. However, I haven't done anything with them yet. I would guess that I just configure arrays on them like normal disks, make them FB, create a LUN on them and then connect the LUN to the Linux guest like any SAN LUN. Is there anything special I should be aware of before jumping in? Re: Using solid state drives with Linux guests
David Simpson presented this material at last years Oracle SIG conference: http://www.oraclezsig.org/2015presentations/THU_1045_2015_Simpson_IO_V3.pdf - That event will be held on April 26 and 27th this year: http://www.oraclezsig.org/ Bill Bitner has also presented on its very positive effects to paging: http://www.vm.ibm.com/devpages/bitner/presentations/pagflash.pdf I have not heard of any "gotchas" with regards to set up or usage. Hopefully some customers will chime in as I know more then a few have been using it, Kurt Acker Cell: 607-348-8197 IBM Smarter Planet, Smarter Data Centers Virtualization and Enterprise System Management Technologies From: Martha McConaghyTo: LINUX-390@VM.MARIST.EDU Date: 02/05/2016 12:10 PM Subject:Using solid state drives with Linux guests Sent by:Linux on 390 Port Has anyone had experience using solid state drives (SSD) with a zLinux guest running under z/VM 6.3?
