Easy/automated way to convert LDL-formatted disks to 1-partition CDL?

2018-08-03 Thread Collinson.Shannon
We're attempting to upgrade all our RHEL6 servers to RHEL7 and have just hit a
huge snag that didn't come up in testing (due to our test servers being rebuilt
pretty often). All our company-used servers still have LDL formatted minidisks
on them, and the upgrade process, at least, doesn't like that one bit--the
RHEL7.5 dracut from the RHEL7 ISO can't seem to sense the partitions on them,
and thus isn't able to actually use them during the reboot portion of the
upgrade. Is there any easy or automated way to convert all the disks of a
server to CDL-format (while that server is down, I'm assuming), so we could pop
back up and run the upgrade?

I figure given enough time I could somehow script this, but to keep from this
project shifting from upgrade-to-RHEL7.5 down to upgrade-to-RHEL6.10, I need to
come up with something by Monday. That doesn't feel like enough time. It's
definitely not enough time to convince RedHat to update RHEL7 so it continues
to recognize LDL-format, even if I can't find anything saying it's no longer
supported. I did find plenty saying things like "anaconda no longer supports
LDL in RHEL7.1", which is probably about when we changed our kickstarts to
start reformatting the z/VM disks before installing RedHat--the reason we
didn't see this in test. And it doesn't seem like many folk have been going
the upgrade-in-place route on s390x based on other issues we've hit, so that
might explain why it doesn't seem to be popping up in current searches.

Anyone out there able to grant us a miracle? Thank you!

Re: has anyone run .net core on zlinux?

Here’s a description of the current state of Mono compatibility with .NET (core
and framework): https://www.mono-project.com/docs/about-mono/compatibility/.
Mono has features of both .NET Framework and .NET Core - it is a superset of
something and a subset of others. Mono has been incorporating a lot of .NET
Core source and the rate of incorporation has been accelerating. It really
comes down to what specific features you are looking for.

Re: Issue cloning RHEL server

2018-08-03 Thread Feller, Paul
I wanted to update everyone on our issue. Here is the comment from my team
member who is working the issue.

I've isolated the problem to the disk copy using the dd utility rather than the
mount and update of the cloned root file system as I first thought. I've found
that if I use the 'oflag=direct' option on the dd utility that it appears to
keep the I/O from overwhelming the DASD subsystem. At this time we're talking
with the vendor about what the root cause of the I/O errors is.

Thanks..
