AX.25 HOWTO - complete update of the DOC
Hi Terry and the rest of the people of this mailing list! My name is Alberto Escudero [EMAIL PROTECTED] and in the last few years i have been working under Linux and AX.25. The result of the last two years work developing packet radio solutions for doctors in isolated areas of LatinAmerica is among other docs a Spanish LinAX25 Dialup Gateway based in your excellent AX.25 HOWTO. Some more new things have been included...as some notes about glibc2, new kernel 2.2... DAMA support... The document is a full and complete description in how to run a Linux box as a mail-gateway of a AX.25 network through a telephone line (BBS style, FIDO style). Notes about sendmail *.CF file, DNS, ISDN and Modem support have been also included. The document is available at http://atlas.gbt.tfo.upm.es in SGML and written in spanish. LinAX.25 Dialup Gateway is based in many HOWTOS and will remain of course GPL! I will be very please if you can have a look to it! I can make a translation of the index and the new issues included and i will be very please to include that info in future versions of the AX-25- HOWTO if that help is needed. GNUcheers from EB4GLO Alberto Escudero Pascual [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: ANNOUNCE: linux amateur radio software database
Nice and good job! i have the chance to mirror the server... i have a Apache+mySQL+PHP3 web server in the Spanish Research Network... RedIris do you think we can coordinate a way to mirror the server? a scp or rsync of the mysqldump of the database and the php3 pages sounds like the best idea... Due to bandwith restrictions Australia is far far far away from Spain best Alberto Escudero Joop Stakenborg wrote: After several weeks of testing we are proud to announce the LINUX AMATEUR RADIO SOFTWARE DATABASE. The database can be viewed at http://radio.linux.org.au The startup page will show you new software which has been entered in the last month. You will see buttons, which will allow you to browse the database by section, sorted by date, title, or subsection. There are 2 buttons on the main page for adding software packages and sending feedback to the database maintainers. When you add a package, it will be held back until it has been reviewed by one of the maintainers. Credits for the web-pages go to Terry Dawson, VK2KTJ. Terry has used PHP3, a powerful HTML language to talk to a MySQL database where the records are stored. The records were taken and updated from http://www.casema.net/~aba, which means these pages will soon be obsolete, as will be the HAM-HOWTO, if this database will prove to be useful. We hope this software database will encourage hams to write and share amateur radio software for linux. Re: radio.linux.org.au
Each time that http://radio.linux.org.au main page is downloaded i guess that a query to the mySQL database is made... It looks like that the default php3 page queries to the mySQL engine for New Software... (checking the date i guess!) every time the page is asked... is that right? It will be a good idea to have the first page as a static one and updated with a crontab or every time that new software appears into the database... i will be very please to write some PHP3 code if it is needed... Hard work have been done and i do not want my comments look like i am asking you to do it... i am just offering to help if it is needed...;-) I also agree with Julian comments to include docs into the database... Thanks again to those that have been involved in the Linux Amateur Radio Database for this work for the community Alberto [EMAIL PROTECTED] EB4GLO
Re: New lib,tools and apps
Time ago moving binaries from one distribution to another i had the same problem with the utilities that uses ncurses... in that time i got a problem with listen in the same way you are discribing with call Linux Distribution AX25 Utility compiledDependencies - - -- RedHat 5.2 ax25-utils-2.1.42a.rpm libncurses.so.4 Debian 2.0 ax25-utils-2.1.42a.deb libncurses.so.3.4 RedHat 6.0 libax25+ax25-apps+ax25-utilslibncurses.so.4 if you are a spanish reader you can check: http://atlas.gbt.tfo.upm.es/ax25.094-3.html#ss3.1 where there is a explanation about that best alberto Bob Meyer wrote: Craig Small wrote: Bob Meyer said: Call is broken here, on Redhat6. Executing any of the menu commands causes a "Segmentation fault". This is very strange because the patch changes one value to be static and the rest is just cleaning up of the configure script so it detects broken redhat includes properly. Don't tell me those library/includes are broken in yet another way. I'm guessing this is a ncurses problem. Slackware uses ncurses 1.9.9g and Redhat uses 4.2. There isn't a problem executing the commands using the tilde excapes. It's a problem with the menu display. Bob
Re: Split AX-25 HOWTO??
i have been working in an update of AX-25 HOWTO in Spanish since one year ago... available in http://atlas.gbt.tfo.upm.es Very please to help Cheers alberto Gerd wrote: Hello Bent, hello all, I support the idea. I can also supply some info to the AX25-HARDWARE-HOWTO (if it comes to exist) on how to configure the German-made SCC board 'Primus' and its derivatives (Clark etc) Since I am always collecting such information for updated versions of the German AX.25-HOWTO and (if nobody has to say something against it) its retranslation into English I am very interested in your experiences. Re: Linux Mail Gateway Software
check fetchmail documentacion... i guess there is a simple way to limit the size... or you can always write a simple POP3 client. and use TOP number_message number_of_lines I am working in something similar...let me know if you need more info alberto From fetchmail man: Resource Limit Control Options -l, --limit (Keyword: limit) Takes a maximum octet size argu- ment. Messages larger than this size will not be fetched, not be marked seen, and will be left on the server (in foreground sessions, the progress messages will note that they are "oversized"). An explicit --limit of 0 overrides any limits set in your run control file. This option is intended for those needing to strictly control fetch time due to expensive and variable phone rates. In daemon mode, oversize notifications are mailed to the calling user (see the --warnings option). This option does not work with ETRN. Re: PB and PG for Linux Version 1.2 released
Sorry, i cannot get the file from sunsite. Tried with all passible links...even in the /incoming/Linux Is there other place to download de file? thanks I have uploaded version 1.2 of PB and PG for Linux to Sunsite.unc.edu. The file name is pbpg-1.2.tar.gz. I have placed the file and the accompanying lsm-file in /pub/Incoming/linux. The target directory is /pub/linux/apps/ham. The updated documentation is found in pb-pg.txt. The following errors have been corrected: - The package will compile with glibc 2 - The display of file names in the files window of PB is now correct - The status line of PB has been cleaned up - The e-counter was incorrectly incremented when TLM frames was received - PG will now upload more than one file per invocation - Reception of a ER_NO_SUCH_FILE_NUMBER is handled correctly by PG The following improvements have been made: - The downlink efficiency is now computed for all satellites - A download request is cancelled when (if) a NO -3 message is received - A new parameter MAXWAIT has been inrtroduced for PG. It allows PG to wait a certain time before attempting to connect to the satellite. The following is believed to be an incorrectness: - Sometimes PB will send requests for directory fills when it is not needed. This behaviour has only been observed with AO-16. The lsm reads as follows: Begin3 Title:PB and PG for Linux Version:1.2 Entered-date: 3 SEP 99 Description:PB and PG for Linux are program used for download from and upload to digital satellites (Pacsats) supporting the FTL0 protocol. This software allows you to directly communicate with the Microsat series of satellites. It provides a Curses (Ncurses) based user interface. It features automatic directory fill requests and simple, rules based file download requests. This version of the programs will work with kernel revisions 2.0.24 or higher.
