Redhat screensavers contest
Hello, Does anyone know where I can find the results of the screensaver contest that Redhat held a while back? I can't seem to find mention of it on their site anymore. Nethack fonts
Hello, Could anyone tell me what console fonts are appropriate for Nethack's IBMGraphics option, (so it will look like the DOS version), or alternatively how I can rip the fonts from my BIOS? AGP
Hello, I have an AGP Riva-128 based video card, and the OpenGL drivers suffer greatly from a lack of more video memory. Is there any support in Linux for using main memory as video memory using AGP ? Is this a kernel issue or an X issue? = To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Reiserfs
Hello, Does anyone have experience using Reiserfs, specifically as a root partition? Is it recommended? How about perfomance/stablity issues? Re: Accessing dos partitions
Avraham Hanadari wrote: Thanks to the nice people who tried to figure out how to access files on the dos partitions through Netscape. Eventually I took the direct approach and simply keyed file:/dos_1 into the browser address window. This gave me a menu of the contents of the partition (once mounted of course), and I could select the files I wanted to read. I still have NOT been able to save onto the dos partition, though. I received an attachment in Linux, that I needed in Windows, but in spite of many attempts, I could not get the file to stay there. Once again, I am missing something here. Avraham Hanadari By default dos partitions are mounted such as that only root has write permissions on them. You can save files there when you're root, OR you could mount the partitions as your user or group and then you can save using your regular user. man mount and look for uid= and gid=. - Oren = To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Connecting with callback under Linux
Hello all, I'm having some trouble getting a callback account to work. I'm doing the login manually, and when I run pppd the line disconnects. Under Windows it does the same unless I input the correct username and password in the dialup dialog, even though I am also entering those values manually in the terminal. If anyone knows what those fields correspond to in pppd I'd be much obliged. The command line I used was /sbin/pppd /dev/modem 38400 crtscts modem lock passive defaultroute user orens. Any help appreciated, - Oren = To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Thrashing and Crashing
I'm having some trouble with Linux. Whenever some application starts taking up way too much memory (netscape with its leaks) and I run out, my system starts hard-drive thrashing like crazy and becomes totally unresponsive. I can't do anything but ALT+SYSREQ my way to a reboot. Is there any way to make linux handle this better? Any Kernel patches perhaps? I run as a user and I haven't had a chance to notice this with other applications because none of them leaked all their memory like Netscape. The kernel is stock 2.2.10. The system becomes totally unresponsive, ALT-Q and CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE both don't work, only ALT-SYSREQ and I'd really rather find a more elegent way out of the mess... - Oren = To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: How do I install AWE64?
Noam Meltzer wrote: I have a slackware 3.6 system and I have a Creative AWE64 card. I read some FAQs manuals, etc. about installing it, but every time I compile my kernel I get an error message about something like I need to define my audio card with some special program. Linux limitations
I read an article which points out two limitations of Linux - 2GB of RAM and 2GB file sizes. My question is, are these numbers accurate (for 2.2?) and if not what are the true limitations and where can I read about them. I assume the filesystem was ext2... http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/nts/news/msnw/nt4vLinux.asp Thanks, - Oren
Civ CTP
Has anyone played Civilization CTP for Linux, know if there's a demo available for download, and know if it is sold anywhere in Israel? Also I was wondering what people think of the new linux.com - Oren
