Re: compiling a module for a different kernel version
One way is to: (I imagine there's a quicker/easier way) You'll have to download the entire source tree for the kernel, and do a './configure' (and pick the right things...) and then a 'make modules'. Assuming you're using the same glibc gcc version it'll all work when you copy the module across... YMMV though, I did this for pwc.o for a 2.4.3, compiled it on a 2.4.9 machine, with the same glibc and gcc, you've probably got more version issues than I had. (pwc.o is the Philips webcam driver, and 2.4.3 didn't have it, but the target machine didn't have enough disk space for the kernel source tree) Good luck :-). MYSQL HTML OUTPUT
The html2ps utility works fine but does not interpret php code, it does not run via apache. To extract table data I must run mysql in batch mode ie *mysql -H batchfile *.html' from the command line. This will output in html table format but with only one line per row. What I am getting is:- TRTD field 1 /TD/TR this line should be /TDTD TRTDmaking this line redundant field2 /TD/TR field1 /TD/TR etc What do I do to get a multi column table correctly described in the output file? can anyone help please Barry
Attempting to set up Debian 3.0 on a dell 3800 laptop
I have just installed Debian 3.0 on my Dell Inspiron 3800 laptop, and like any good Debian install I seem to be having a few problems First of all the base system seems to run fine Gnome and KDE both look great. However if I swap from X to a full screen console (ctrl alt f1). I am unable to read anything and the screen goes mad, (a sort of hazy mess of randomly colored and moving lines all over the screen). Secondly the laptop has a PCMCIA network card a Belkin cardbus 10/100 network card to be exact. It is a reasonably pricey card and on the Belkin site under the card info it says that is supported by linux. When I run cardmgr I can see that the card is in the slot and correctly identified as a cardbus network card however when I edited the file that stores info on network devices it keeps telling me that the device is unreachable. I am relatively new to linux so if I have made a silly mistake I will not be surprised. Any help on either of the problems would be greatly appreciated. Ron [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Okay in english i just set up another Gateway type system to replace my 486dx100, and i can get it to dial on demand just not resolve an address i think, ive used the old machine to compare the .conf files to match it all but to no avail. only after a push in the right direction, much appreacited. Can you ping external ip addresses (as opposed to host names that you need to resolve to ip addresses)? ie does ping 203.96.152.4 work whereas ping rachel.paradise.net.nz doesn't? If so it is a likely a dns problem. And is this from the gateway or a client? -- Nick Rout [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Thanks, good to meet you
Hi everyone,This is a message of appreciation to all the kind folk involved with Installfest 2002. You've done a great job. Here is my 1st send from Kmail off my XP1800 desktop, running Mandrake 8.2 successfully. Especial mention goes to Nick Rout for the install, 'the travelling Irishman' at Installfest for some tricky PCTel modem modules, Mahesh Nick for CD supply etc., Zane for his sheer hard work, the knowledgeable Keith McGavin for a day's setup tuning last week. Most of my available time since platform gain has been spent keeping up with the CLUG post reading RUTE online. It looks all good to me!A brand-newbie's $0.02 worth? (finding it hard to refer to cents when five are the least I can find ; ) - Win2K was looking good, but now I've seen *real* computing. That is, the idea that programming access and learning is important, and a stable desktop is not too much to ask (e.g. a common old Genius.Netscroll+ mouse can crash Win2K, while Mandrake didn't even need an extra driver source and hums along without a glitch).Full migration to the new system depends upon my Ethernet card coming back to life (we set it for the LAN @Installfest, and I think a now incorrect proxy setting lurks somewhere). Will persevere ask for help if no luck in finding it. Kia ora, kia kaha -be well, keep up the fightRik Tindall

You'll need your isp's dns servers listed in /etc/resolv.conf for name resolving, is the gateway box only going to be used as a firewall? asking because it may be simpler to just run smoothwall / ipcop and then you have a nice web based admin console to do all the work for you :-). jeremyb. Re: Re: Arggg Cant See out after pppd connects
The other thing that could be causing you problems... Whats your routing table look like? run route after connecting to your isp and see if theres a default route out via your ppp interface, there will be one to an ip at your isp and you should be able to ping that, but if you don't have a default one that gets created after dialing up you won't be able to do any dns resolves or reach anything but the other end of the ppp link. jeremyb.
