For anyone who cares, the phpwiki dumps of the last state of the old
wiki are still available on http://clug.net.nz/. After a suitable

Maybe if they re-open Georgie Pie Riccarton we can start the CLUG

I distinctly recall Volker being there.
Though if its in a McDonald's I think I'll pass.

I think there's a big difference between the sort of social gathering
that meetup.com http://meetup.com likes to promote, and a more
formal 'presentations'
style.

What is working well down here in Dunedin is a bi-weekly social
gathering in a friendly pub. Sometimes the tables are covered with
laptops, sometimes a whole desktop machine makes it along if there's a
particular problem ... sometimes it's just chatting about non-computer
stuff. But it's with like-minded geeks.

So 'presentations' isn't working. Try social for a while ... :-)

The LUG I may well be joining [1] has something similar to what Jim is
proposing. Afternoon of first Sunday of the month for a presentation
or what have you, and a pub evening on a fixed day of the month. In
their case the 15th. Even though they seem, from their web page, to be
in a similar state of activity as us, I think that that is worth trying.

How about just bringing a plate each?

 Hi,

Last time I had to do this, I simply wrote a simple command in C, that

looks at a terminal) and then wait. For security just don't use getchar() or
any function that is susceptible to a buffer overflow attack and you should
be fine. Using a script for this type of usage is not generally regarded as
 secure.

What reasons are against using /bin/cat ?

input = output ( so you can type garbage and hit enter to check the
connections working still )
and ^D or ^C to disconnect.

text sizing

Hi All,

I am playing with kde and ekiga but am having trouble reading the
miniscule serif text of the ekiga help file. I have looked at text sizes
set by kcontrol to no avail, and anyway all text is set up as sans-serif

Any idea how I can change the font size used by ekiga help?

Farewell Meal and Drinks for Chris

2009-05-24 Thread David Kirk
Hey everyone,

Christopher Sawtell will be abandoning us soon to go to Aberdeen.
There will be a leaving meal and drinks for him on Tuesday next week
(not tomorrow). It will be at the Twisted Hop.

If you are planning to go, then it might be a good idea to let Chris
know so he can make a booking. He can also let you know what time it
will be.

Unfortunately I can't go, but I would like to thank Chris for all his
work with the CLUG and wish him the best of luck for the future.

Greetings,

I was thinking of Tuesday 9th. June 6:30pm onwards @ Twisted Hop.

In spite of being in NZ for over 40 years I still have to come to
terms with the precise meaning of next wrt dates and weeks.

If most folks on the list would interpret David's announcement as 2
June, as I would, I'll change my understanding and we'll have the
gathering on that day.
