Subject: [OzSilverlight] SL Related

Hi All,
I am fine :) , sure you all will be enjoying, here is scenario to discuss:
I am near to complete a SL App, now I want that my application will open in
Full Screen mode, i.e. without Next, Previous button of Browser or address
bar. But after successful login. ;)

In this app there is not UserControl, but canvases because they add Childers in
it, mean at runtime I add children to the Canvases/Pages,

And remember there is only one page (default.html/aspx ).
When user login successfully I do this:

//Redirect to page.
LoginDefault loginDefault = Application.Current.RootVisual as
LoginDefault;
if (loginDefault != null)
{
loginDefault.Children.Clear();
loginDefault.Children.Add(new Default());
}

So send me anything which help me related to Full Screen, but remember the
solution should take very much little bit time, :)

Not a big fan of the architecture of DNN, but each to their own.

Umbraco is also worth looking at, if you don't mind getting your hands
dirty with XML/XSLT along with ASP.NET. Free and open source too, and
comes with a very slick editing and admin interface out of the box.

In terms of what Flash has, they 10 added hardware bitmap compositing. Verdict

will encoding the data for HTML transmission and decoding it when it
hits the SL app help here? I mean, it's the same process as sending
URL variables and ASP.NET's request.querystring sorting it out for you

you just gotta get around the transport limitations while keeping the
data intact.

just an idea.

[OzSilverlight] Command pattern parameters

2008-10-02 Thread Philip Beadle
Hi All,

I am using the command pattern Jonas and Jordan use from the SLExtensions
project. My question is how to pass a complete object to the parameter?

Button x:Name=EditButton
input:CommandService.Command=EditItem
input:CommandService.CommandParameter= Visibility={Binding IsEditable,
Converter={StaticResource visConverter}, Source={StaticResource dotNetNuke}}
Margin=5,5,5,5

What goes here input:CommandService.CommandParameter=
To pass the datacontext of that record. Its in a ItemsControl bound to a
list of objects.

The post outlines how to re-size the containing div to the same size as the

keep adding more comments and the control needs to stretch down the page).

Ah, changed it from this.Controls.Add to a placeholder which works fine. (which
judging by your control name of phSilverlight you are using too)

Wonder why it won't show the Silverlight control if you add it to the page
rather than a placeholder.

the Unit(100%) works for me. If I change the plugin background to a different
colour I can see it using 100% of the browser.

What I'm puzzled about is that I can't see the silverlight page contents, its
blank.

namespace SLPluginWeb {
public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page {
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {

Silverlight silverlightControl = new Silverlight();
silverlightControl.ID = TechEd2008;
silverlightControl.Width = new Unit(100%);
silverlightControl.Height = new Unit(100%);
silverlightControl.MinimumVersion = 2.0.30523;
silverlightControl.PluginBackground = Color.Red;
silverlightControl.Source = ~/ClientBin/SLPlugin.xap;
this.Controls.Add(silverlightControl);

}
}
}

in the on_PageLoad, it gives me a blank control. I've just got a button in the
silverlight page which loads fine from the html test page.

Can't seem to find a good example of silverlight controls being added from
asp.nethttp://asp.net/ code behind.

It's for FF3 mostly. If you have any sights that have Get Silverlight issues
around versioning, please little-r me as it shouldn't happen and those that
have that in place are generally sites that have an absolute need to run on a
specific version of Silverlight (as there were changes between Silverlight 1.1
to Silverlight 2 b1/b2).

I currently own the Silverlight install experience, so if you have any feedback
or wish lists etc around this please little-r me as I'm awaiting your calls! :)

Thanks all,

Extra stability in FF3 is good. :)
Beta 2 was an improvement, before that came out I also couldn't use it... had
the crash on close tab problem.

I still occasionally get sites that tell me I don't have SL installed but if I
go to the same URL in IE it works fine. I've not checked this since installing
the patch, I'd be hard pressed remembering a site that had the issue but I'll
keep an eye out for it.

Hi Everyone,

Can anyone tell me a nice way to provide some start-up parameters to
Silverlight sourced from the parent page (maybe on the asp:Silverlight control
or something).

Imagine you have an SL app that you wish to re-use across a range of pages...
for example a comments system (user enters and views comments etc), where you
want to give it a comments group ID so I can request all comments from db for
that page etc.

I know how to do this using JS, just thought there may be a nice pattern to
follow :)

Nikhil had another good demo using isolated storage for saving draft blog
posts, I think Ill update that one as well.

That's a great post Philip!

Great example of using Silverlight for more than just UI work. Wilco Bauwer
have more examples and ideas on this kind of stuff over at
http://www.wilcob.com/Wilco/Silverlight/silverlight-interoperability.aspx.

You could do lots of cool stuff with Silverlight to enhance traditional web
pages. Client side caching is another example where it could be usefull. One
could abstract away Silverlight Isolated Storage, Google Gears and Flash 6
local storage in a simple JavaScript API and get local cache that would work on
lots of machines depending on which plug-in is available.

Q. How far do you want to zoom?

Also - What limitations are you facing with Deep Zoom? and how do you want us
to fix them should they exist?

Have you all seen: http://projectsilverlight.blogspot.com/ ?

p.s

Meet with the Deep Zoom folks today at their HQ (sweet office in down town
Seattle), there is a lot to be said for this technology, very exciting times
ahead.

Hi Alex,

Not sure if this is related to the issue you're having, but I was listening to
a DotNetRocks show http://www.dotnetrocks.com/default.aspx?showNum=348 a while
back where they were talking Deep zoom. And it seems there are some
limitations on how far you can zoom, a quick Google and I also found a post on
the Expressions team's blog mentioning some limitations
http://blogs.msdn.com/expression/archive/2008/06/07/what-s-new-in-deep-zoom-composer.aspx#8602273

Good luck,

Ola

Subject: [OzSilverlight] MediaElement

Has anyone played with the MediaElement much?

I'm having an interesting problem with it.
This works;
MediaElement x:Name=VideoElement
Source=http://localhost:53018/TestVideo.wmv; /

But this doesn't;
MediaElement x:Name=VideoElement Source=TestVideo.wmv /

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to set Copy if newer or don't copy. When it's
running locally on my machine it works because the wmv file is in the top level
directory. Should I be putting it in bin/TestVideo.wmv?

Also when I copy the whole thing up to my webhost and run it, it loads the
MediaElement but no video. No errors or anything... Puzzling. Suggestions on
how to see where it is looking on the server for the file?

thanks,
Stephen

Hey Jonas, welcome to the group.
I enjoyed your presentation at #CCOZ. It was a great start to an awesome
weekend.
I have experience with older versions of the windows media encoder so was
pleasantly surprised by the capabilities of the expression encoder.

Despite the list being called ‘OzSilverlight’ it really is international list.
