Re: We need your help!

2010-08-15 Thread zarul shahrin
Hai,

I don't usually reply to the list if I don't have anything helpful to say.
But coming across this post, I found it to be a little bit offensive for you
to response that way especially when you're looking for help. I might be
wrong or misinterpreted your response due to the language barrier between us
though.

Best Regards,

Zarul

Please send this message to ubuntu-translators list, there should be
the right place for calling translations.

  Heyya LoCo Teams,

Please donate a few minutes of your time to translate classbot[1], so
we can start having a truly global way to hold classes! There are
about 25 short strings, you do more then that in an email!

It would be great if each loco ( who speaks a language other then
English ) to review and post some translations.

  Thanks LoCos!

Re: We need your help!

2010-08-15 Thread Laura Czajkowski
Ok folks! there seems to be some confusion, tone and un pleasantries
going on here. Paul mailed the list asking for some help with regards
to the Classbot Nathan Handler is working on to help loco teams. The
reason sometimes things are sent to this list as there are more people
on here who can help, either by helping out themselves, or passing it
onto their teams and even encouraging others to take part in
translations. Yes I know we have a translations mailing list, but
sometimes it's also nice to get new people involved and they perhaps may
not hear of these things.

With regards to replying to daily digests, it's sometimes hard to read
which thread it belongs to, I've seen on other mailing lists where they
quote the exact part they are referring to, that might be an idea.

It's also very hard to judge tone over email/irc/forums, there is also a
large community here where English is not their first lanuage and I'm
not sure it translates the way in which it is intended. Please try to
remember this when replying.I also don't think anyone should point
someone else to another list to post and tell them their information
here isn't suitable for posting, we're trying on the LoCo Council to
reach out to a wider audience in the hopes of making things more
productive and easier for everyone involved.

This does not answer the question that was asked of you. You're blaming
your tool for its handling of emails. Completely irrelevant to what was
asked of you.

The question to you was are you suggesting that the digest subscribers
and non-subscribers are not allowed to participate on this mailing
list?

I'm reiterating this as I'm curious for the answer as well.

Also, don't respond to the mailing list if you receive a digest, it

Not reducing quoted text to just the part quoted is also poor mailing
list etiquette, but I would like a clarification on policy.

Paul, are you suggesting that digest subscribers and non-subscribers are
not allowed to participate on this mailing list?

of course they can participate. Not being a digest subscriber to any
lists I am curious about how one would normally reply to a digest mail.
Surely a list would quickly grind to a halt if everyone replied to
digests including the full digest as the next days digest would be full
of digests from the day before and would be quite um, indigestable.

Well, in theory you do what you'd do with any reply and only quote the
part you were responding to.

Paul asked Elanor not to reply because it breaks threading, which would
seem to suggest that there's no way for a non-subscriber to participate
either. I'm sure that's not what he meant but as he declined to answer
I suppose we'll simply be left to guess.

into. I am very thankful towards everyone who has taken some time to
help with the translations. I also would like to apologize for pushing
several new .pot files over the past few days. This is the first
project that I have attempted to setup for translations, and I still
have a lot to learn. So, thanks again everyone for your help, and
please keep up the great work!
