Re: Media Request from PC retailer

I would say give them lots of CDs. They are very well placed to get them
in the hands of lots of people who are interested. If they sell them for
a small fee then fine, they are charging for the service of keeping them
on expensive shelves.

Lately we got a request form a PC retailer in our region. I am not
sure if we really want to support commercial interests, so I would
like to ask if one of you has been in a similar situation and if so,
how you handle these kind of requests.

Hi,

We have also received such requests. We gladly offer them old CDs if we
have some left and point them to the Canonical store for the latest
release and for larger quantities.

If they are requesting a large quantity then not a chance but if they
want a CD or two to check out then I think it ultimately furthers Ubuntu
adoption and if they need large quantity you could point them to the
Canonical store.

Re: Media Request from PC retailer

2012-07-01 Thread Charles Profitt
Quick thoughts off the top of my head.

I think this should likely be taken on a case by case basis...

The purpose of the CDs is to expose people to Ubuntu... and giving them to a
local retailer would assist with that.

At the same time we do not want a retailer to depend on 'free' Ubuntu CDs for
ever... but perhaps as a starter so they can determine viability would be good.

Perhaps offer to hold an event at their location as well if they are interested.

I would not mind continuing to produce the document as well... I think we need

my memory serves me correctly.

Re: Media Request from PC retailer

2012-06-26 Thread Martin Owens
Hey Marcus,

It depends how the media is intended to be used. If it's being sold, or
packaged into a product, then it's becoming a commercial product and
that's where we need to think about the company paying for media.

On the other hand, if they're handing them out, then it's still
non-commercial use. As far as I can see.
