Re: Demoting results
I've found an elegant way of doing this now for all types of search - a new NegatingQuery class that takes any Query object in its constructor and selects all documents that DONT match and gives them a user-definable boost. The code is here: http://www.inperspective.com/lucene/demote.zip Cheers Mark - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: looking for developer
Anson I have very strong Lucene experience, covering 1.2, 1.3, and the current 1.4-almost-an-RC, having built search engines for several web sites with it. I'm located in Melbourne not very able to change that, but if you don't get other bites maybe we can talk about telecommuting the occasional day trip? Mark, I've added a section in the wiki called: http://wiki.apache.org/jakarta-lucene/CommunityContributions and have added an entry for your message. If you want to edit the message, go for it. I believe that the wiki can support attached files if you want to upload there. cheers, sv On Sun, 28 Mar 2004 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I've found an elegant way of doing this now for all types of search - a new NegatingQuery class that takes any Query object in its constructor and selects all documents that DONT match and gives them a user-definable boost. RE: looking for developer
Esmond, Thanks a lot for your email. Will certainly consider that - do you know another 1-2 person who also knows Lucene very well, who you can work with in case we need another person? No point having 1 developer in Sydney and one in Melbourne. To give you a bit more background - we'll be indexing and searching a database of approx 1.5 million records. Do you have experience with this sort of scale? I don't and I am specifically looking for people with that. Lucene optimization with one large index and numerous small indexes.
We're using lucene with one large target index which right now is 5G. Every night we take sub-indexes which are about 500M and merging them into this main index. This merge (done via IndexWriter.addIndexes(Directory[]) is taking way too much time. Looking at the stats for the box we're essentially blocked on reads. The disk is blocked on read IO and CPU is at 5%. If I'm right I think this could be minimized by continually picking the two smaller indexes, merging them, then picking the next two smallest, merging them, and then keep doing this until we're down to one index.
