[LUTE] Two Rob MacKillop CDs now Online

2015-03-18 Thread Rob MacKillop
These two albums are now out of print and out of stock, and the record
company is OK about putting them online. You can't download them, but
you can hear them as often as you want on my soundcloud page.
Flowers Of The Forrest - my first solo album from 1998. Music from
Scotland for lute, cittern and guittar. This album reached the Number
1 spot in the Scottish classical charts :-) It seems a million years
   ago to me.

The Healing - from 2002. Music from 17th and 21st-century Scotland for
lute and cittern. The last four tracks were all newly-written. The last
track, The Healing, was written in response to the 9/11 attacks - I was
studying oud in casablanca at the time. One track has me improvising an
oud accompaniment to a recitation by a poet (James Robertson) about the
hanging of another poet (Ken Saro-Wiwa), and eight other pro-democracy
activists in Nigeria. But most of the album is from the 17th century

Great performance of a remarkable Falckenhagen chorale setting! Having worked
with John Schneiderman on a number of Falckenhagen projects, I feel as if I've
become almost personally acquainted with this interesting composer and his
equally fascinating patrons. It's nice to see another side of his personally on
such fine display. Makes me glad I contributed to this highly worthwhile
production.

2015-03-18 Thread Ron Andrico
Just to add a little perspective to this discussion. Youtube / Google
are actively in the process of turning Youtube into more of a streaming
service than it already is today. They are currently involved in a mad
dash to collect content just in case there are restrictions placed
upon them to pay out actual royalty payments, pending some cases
currently in court. Youtube royalties are actually even worse than
Spotify, which is now 0.00012 per stream.
If anyone here is a fellow content creator or is otherwise interested
in how tech companies have simply helped themselves to whatever music
they please in order to monetize with advertising revenue, you can gain

[LUTE] Polyphonic Intabulations

2015-03-18 Thread Edward C. Yong
Hello folks!

I’ve been going through intabulations of sacred polyphony for lute, and after
an admittedly brief search, I noticed something curious.

The Continentals, particularly the Spanish, seem very interested in
intabulations of sacred polyphony, but I haven’t found any examples of
English/British either doing the intabulations or being intabulated.

I’ve been looking at the Fuenllana, Narvaez etc, and I find Josquin, Morales,
Gombert, but no Tallis or Byrd. Was English/British music entirely unpopular on
the Continent?

Curious,
