LyX 1.0.3: a bug report
Hi, I am a now steady user of LyX, primarily for scientific publications and presentations, but also for business correspondence and even reading other people's TeX files. I am using LyX on Linux and SGI IRIX platforms. Here is a summary of what I still find annoying with LyX 1.0.3 and perhaps you will find a way to fix it in a future version. 1) When selecting a file in the File/Open box, double-clicking on the file name is very finicky, it seems to expect me to double-click extremely quickly. 2) When I am in text mode and want to put the cursor inside a wide displayed equation by clicking on it, the cursor sometimes goes after the end of the equation and I'm still in text mode. 3) The cursor keys (- and -) don't always do what I expect when I am in math mode. For example, type math-greek phi, then math-insert _, then twice cursor left: The cursor ends up at right of the subscript math box. 4) When editing math, cursor up and down sometimes produces unexpected effects. Essentially the cursor only goes up the fraction and not down; and also it goes up the subscript only from the left side of the subscript, but not from the right side. It's very disconcerting to suddenly drop out of the math mode into a different line when what you want is to edit a subscript. 5) Two RevTeX glitches when exporting to TeX: first, the \documentclass line should really be \documentstyle, because the stupid RevTeX is still Latex 2.09 although its correct processing with Latex 2e requires a .cls file. Second, when using boldface in math, for example a boldface "x", followed by normal "+y", which should be the TeX code "{\mathbf x} + y", LyX incorrectly generates the TeX code "\mathbf{x} + y", which results in both x and y and whatever follows being typesent in boldface. Best regards and thanks for your great work. - Serge

LyX 1.0.3: a bug report (one more bug)
Hi, Forgot bug #6: 6) When deleting symbols in math mode, subscripts and superscripts are not always correctly drawn on the screen. For example, if I type x^2y^2 and then want to change y by z, I go back with the cursor to delete y and then the second superscript "2" vanishes from the screen too, however when I type "z" instead of "y", the superscript is back. This can also lead to double superscripts or subscripts (a TeX error) which are not drawn on the screen. Best regards, - Serge

I believe the second problem isn't a revtex-specific problem. Mathed has "issues" with boldfacing which will probably be fixed in 1.1. Also, as Lars said, LyX does use documentclass for revtex. LyX comes with a revtex.cls file which basically just calls revtex.sty in compatibility mode. (or equiv) But this is nothing that LyX should care about, this is all handled between LaTeX and Xdvi. Lgb Sorry, but I don't think that it is all handled by LaTeX and Xdvi. LaTeX and Xdvi are children of LyX and directed by LyX to the internally computed hidden tmp-directory. I'm aware of that effect: If I close a file and reopen it again, then I have to close my running Xdvi too, because it is useless now, when using update-dvi. If I start Xdvi again it works ok. But there is no mystery. LyX creates a new tmp-directory (as I can see with /bin/ls) and starts working there. The update-dvi operation creates the new dvi file in the new tmp-dir. latex doesn't delete and recreates the dvi file, the contents of the dvi file will be replaced by latex/tex. Xdvi should just watch the file for changes. It might have some problems when the file is deleted and later regenerated with a different inode number. (or equiv) But this is nothing that LyX should care about, this is all handled between LaTeX and Xdvi. Lgb

LaTeX and Xdvi are children of LyX and directed by LyX to the internally computed hidden tmp-directory. I'm aware of that effect: If I close a file and reopen it again, then I have to close my running Xdvi too, because it is useless now, when using update->dvi.
